One point: former democracies were made redundant by politicians going after big cities and ignoring the smaller towns.
Good point...thus the existence of the Electoral College and the Federal System. states like Oklahoma and Arizona are still relevant.

not only is this a breech of protocol but it gaurantees he won't be seen by the majority of people until some time later.
That's an important factor, too...the quitters. When Lieberman drops, who gets his? (most likely the most moderate one, since Joe is center-right) or Kucinich and Sharpton (Honestly, I don't think we have anyone nearly that liberal...I'm serious, too)? And if Edwards or Clark drop the ball Tuesday (very likely...they can't BOTH do well in the South), who gets thiers?
I don't see Dean winning Tuesday, but I doubt he'll get hammered to the point that he'll quit. He may win the nomination on a coalition of endorsements. I'm not going to break it all down, but I'm just saying it's possible.

Are they counting DC? the send delegates, too, and that's a lot of pro-Dean people. plus, Moseley-Braun finished second there and send her delegates to Dean. He also may have picked up some of Gephardt's. But, I didn't see the report.

The only thing that matters is the Electoral College, though...And bush won that by taking Florida...and therein lies most of the dispute over the 2000 result.
And when an executive of Diebold (the company making the new voting machines that will not allow for any manual recount) tells a GOP group that his company is "Dedicated to bringing Ohio's electoral votes to the party," I think a 2004 controversy is already brewing.
