  Did You Believe EVERYTHING On The News Was Prophecy Being Fulfilled?

  were you one of those witnesses that believed everything written in a newspaper or viewed on the news was a fulfillment of bible prophecy?

  you know--the type that always had newspaper clippings in your pocket, anxious to show the "friends" how this looks like the "cry for peace and security"?......you know the type i mean......

  My mom is certainly like that. If there?s anything in the news about international or civil conflicts, or about local squabbles or acts of violence, then she says, ?See, that?s fulfilling the scripture that says that at Armageddon ?every man?s hand will be against his brother,? but if there?s anything about politicians talking about trying to get peace, then she says, ?See, they?re going to try and get peace, and some day they?ll succeed and cry ?peace and security!?

  So, no matter what is happening in the world, that mind-set is always thinking that it shows the ?end? is coming any time.

  I can certainly identify with the poster who talked about a sinking feeling in the pit of their stomach. I got those damn surges of butterflies, grief, and knots in my tummy whenever my mom would talk to my dad about world events. I think the best remedy for untying those knots is Food At the Proper Time (which shows a list of, um, ?developments? of WT doctrine and prophecy over the last century) . . . available for free download from www.freeminds.org. I find that this little gem does a great job of shining a search light at that old ?man behind the curtain,? and tends to ?cure what ailes ya.?

  Dolls/Stuffed animals.... what's your opinion?

  i had my two girls with me today.

  they were as beautiful and loving and caring as ever.. they each had their own favorite dolls that they cared for much like i care/d for them.

  it was beautiful to watch!!!!!!!!.

  Is God a Flip-Flopper?

  i have never been able to find a satisfactory answer to these two verses from the bible:exodus 34:7: keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.. .

  24:16: the fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.. .

  2 Jehovah is my crag and my stronghold and the Provider of escape for me.

  It would appear from the above two verses that God is a rather kind-hearted refuge for people to turn to.

  However, as an example of his specific dealings, take a look at this excerpt from the Mosaic Law:

  5 "?Now in case YOU should sacrifice a communion sacrifice to Jehovah, YOU should sacrifice it to gain approval for yourselves. 6 On the day of YOUR sacrifice and directly the next day it should be eaten, but what is left over till the third day should be burned in the fire. 7 If, though, it should at all be eaten on the third day, it is a foul thing. It will not be accepted with approval. 8 And the one eating it will answer for his error, because he has profaned a holy thing of Jehovah; and that soul must be cut off from his people.

  ?Leviticus 19:5-8

  My point: Jehovah supposedly speaks of himself as being rather benevolent and easy-going in many scriptures, especially the poetic ones in the Old Testament, yet in certain specific situations?such as the above excerpt from the Mosaic Law where he would actually have someone executed simply for eating his communion sacrifice on the third day?he seems more of what we would today call a tyrannical asshole.

  Also, of course, when you compare the actions of the great Jewish warrior God Jehovah in the bloody OT to the way he is supposedly represented by the more reasonable teachings of Jesus Christ in the NT, you wonder if the God of the OT and NT is really the same divine character.

  How do you make the two (OT/NT) fit? How do you reconcile a God who foments the bloodiest R-rated savagery towards any towns and villages that aren?t completely thrilled with the idea of being invaded and taken over by the Israelite armies?indeed, how to you reconcile that kind of God with the man Jesus Christ who balked at unreasonable adherence to Jewish law and proceeded to heal a man?s hand on the Sabbath? Hmmm. Will the real God please stand up.

  all of us could document the written false prophecies of the wtower, 1799, 1874, 1914 -15-18-19-1935-75.by 2000....etc but how about the unwritten ones?

  Whenever the UN takes any kind of action like sending peacekeeping troops somewhere or supporting NATO in some way, then my mother says, ?See, the United Nations is getting more power and authority, and you can just see how soon Jehovah will put it into their hearts and minds to turn on Babylon the Great.? (I?ve still never heard of the UN having any notion to actually destroy all the religions of the world. I?m sorry but whad I don?t seez is whad I don?t seez.)

  The Black & White Thinking of Jehovah's Witnesses---Are You Still Affected?

  as witnesses, we were taught how to think.

  we were force fed whatever "mother" told us was best for us.

  we were constantly having ideas "inculcated" into us.

  . . . the thinking may still be deeply ingrained in them and they tend to not only say things that most people would say are one-sided but they also deeply believe they are always right.

  I think that?s the key?it?s not just a matter of black or white but about always being right (or at least believing you?re right).

  A good example of this from the WT perspective is their view on organ transplants. It is (or at least has been) a black/white issue, but as we know, it has flip-flopped. When it was acceptable and also when it was not, it was still a black/white issue, but the important thing, according to the WT, is that they were always right at the time. (I guess they still see themselves as supposedly ?right? during the time when organ transplants were not acceptable and people were dying because they needed one.)

  I suppose the real thing is being open-minded?and being in an environment which allows one that ?luxury.?

  "they are in my opinion, a disgrace!

  " i have posted about their racest practices & unwillingness to distribute watchtowers & awake magazines to everyone on prior occasions..... i "finally" see one of them distributing the magazines at the bus stop and she is walking along "with a cigarette hanging out the side of her mouth", smoking while she is doing it.. the witnesses in this area need a better attitude about what they are doing!!

  Next thing you'll know, they'll be conducting the watchtower while sippin' martinis, hiding beer in the kingdom hall toilet....

  Actually, I heard from someone who was in the Canadian Bethel around 15 years ago that they had a still for making wine that actually blew up during a tour! Apparently it made quite a mess (maybe in more ways than one). I guess those guys at Bethel need their booze to cope, but with their meager monthly ?allowance,? they must have to go the cheap route by making a large volume of home-made stuff.

  How do you dissuade helpful witnesses?

  for those that have done the fade and had one or more "concerned" witnesses trying to keep in contact and/or study with you, what have you done to dissuade these helpful ones from bugging you while keeping any apostate red flags from popping up in their minds?

  (as this may only serve to increase their interest in you and initiate inquiries into your true beliefs)

  You could turn it around and ask them some subtle yet poignant questions to get them thinking.

  Perhaps tell them, ?Incidentally, the other day I just happened to come across an interesting news article in one of those ?offbeat? areas of the news about . . . [find an online article about recent JW scandals involving pedophilia, abuse, blood, fraud, murder, etc.], and show them a printout.

  If they ask if the article is from ?apostates,? just tell them, ?No, it?s from a legitimate news service.? (Just be sure to print out any such article directly from the original news Web site, and not from any copied into a posting on a Web site like this one!) If they suspiciously question you about it, then just turn it around and ask them, ?Well, what do you think about it?,? and just leave it at that. Don?t indicate what you really think about whatever article you use as an exposé (not until you?re ready), but for now just give them a little ?food for thought,? and say, ?I?m not really sure what to think about it. What do you think??

  If they?re honest and open-minded, then they will no-doubt investigate the subject further for themselves. If not, then just keep showing them news articles from unbiased, respectable sources exposing the JWs for what they are, or even get your hands on a videotape of segments on shows such as Dateline NBC, until they are, in fact, dissuaded from trying to keep giving you such ?helpfulness.?

  There?s nothing like a hard-hitting exposé of a news article to break the ice and give people something revealing to ?chew on?!

  Practicing Righteousness for SHOW

  this bible verse was quoted in an earlier thread:take good care not to practice your righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise you will have no reward with your father who is in the heavens.

  hence when you go making gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, just as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men.

  truly i say to you, they are having their reward in full.

  They make such a public show about doing those little things to help people in times of crisis (pretty much only their own) that anybody should automatically be doing anyway to advertise their pseudo-piety, but of course they will not even say ?hello? to one of their own who happens to get disfellowshipped for clinking glasses or saying ?happy birthday? or daring to question one of their many ?rules.?

  What they really need is a basic course in ?Love 101.? True love beats ?true knowledge? because that is what really counts.
