  ive written extensively on the subject of the watchtower organizations communally enforced religious position against blood transfusion.

  but i often neglect to put the brains behind this religious position on display in full flaming glory.. in short order we have a gloriously brilliant display of these brains by aligning three of its epiphanies in nearly perfect 12-year intervals of 1932, 1944 and 1956.. take a look for yourself:.

  This gives me an idea. There should be a new kind of “reasoning book” similar to the book published by Jehovah’s Witness called Reasoning On the Scriptures but call it something like “The REAL Reasoning Book On Faith, Logic, and Scripture,” and have it tailor-made to answer Jehovah’s Witnesses. It could include sample arguments in the format similar to the above, which is also similar to the sample scripts in the JW’s reasoning book containing various arguments to “objections” and “conversation stoppers.” There are probably similar little blurbs like that online, but it would be great if someone actually published a hard-cover book like that. Image if we all had a copy of such a book – it would certainly make those annoying run-ins with and calls by JWs a lot more fun.

  Graph in latest Watchtower deliberately amended

  did anyone notice that the graph of publisher growth in the jan 1st watchtower has been deliberately "tweaked" to give the impression of higher growth in the period 2000 - 2010?

  i've tried to illustrate this by superimposing the actual graph line over the one from the watchtower ( which is the narrower line in the graph.

  ) the period up to 2000 exactly mirrors the actual figures but the artist has decided to edge up the last decade , for obvious reasons.

  Actually, the real evidence is that the very last neandrathals found were in Brooklyn, New York. There’s eight of them, and they’re still living! Where’s the evidence of their authentic neandrathal classification? Easy. It comes off the presses every day.

  People okay with being mind controlled/brainwashed?

  i have actually heard of people saying that they are okay with being brainwashed and/or mind controlled?

  does this make sense to you guys?.

  I’ve heard people on the platform relate how people have replied to the question of brainwashing that they thought their brains need a good washing.

  I think that it’s not so much mental laziness as it is a need to cope with an intrinsic sense of insecurity. It’s a sort of placebo effect in that people have a sense of calm and optimism when they believe that they are in the hands of a good doctor, psychiatrist, faith healer, or “religious practitioner” such as an evangelistic ministry or a quasi-religious movement such as the Watchtower. They can thereby allow themselves to come under their “care,” trusting that at least someone is competent enough to sort of “do the driving” for them and lead them to security, stability, prosperity, and perhaps ultimate salvation.

  It’s sort of like how I like to put my trust in taking a daily multivitamin like “Centrum” – I trust that it has a sufficiently balanced proportion of essential vitamins and elements which has a reasonable efficacy to my health. I don’t want to bother taking a bunch of separate supplements or herbal remedies; I just trust that whatever is in each of those Centrum tablets is what it should be – I just trust the men in the white lab coats to figure it out for me. . . . But, unlike a bunch of disingenuous knuckleheads like the Governing Body, I know that those men in white lab coats in the pharmaceutical industry know what they’re doing.

  Actually, the whole phenomenon of the rise and continued morphing of the Jehovah’s Witness movement really, in effect, serves as a gargantuan and elaborate modern-day psychology experiment. No university or government research group could possibly execute such a large-scale psychology experiment relating to just how – and how much – people could be persuaded to follow a cultic and idiosyncratic religion like the Watchtower without question.

  Much like other major “cultural” events during the last 100 years, such as the Nazi empire of World War II, the rise (and fall) of Communistic governments, the predominance of various little cultic groups (Moonies, Mormons, Hare Krishna, David Koresh, Heaven’s Gate, etc.), and the significant numbers of people still smoking cigarettes despite all the contraindicative evidence – all these real-life examples can be used as massive psychology experiments which have basically fallen into the lap of pure anthropological scientific study, as these phenomena have already occurred naturally among human society.

  It’s almost like those humorous practical gags you see on TV shows like “Candid Camera,” “Bloopers Practical Jokes,” “Just For Laughs Gags,” “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment,” etc. where ordinary people on the street become unwitting participants in humorously intriguing parodies to see their genuine natural reactions.

  So, basically, the JWs are just another practical sociological experiment. . . . Or at least just another practical gag – only we’re the ones getting the laugh.

  Well an Elder told me why all the new revised NWT bibles are grey/gray in color

  while in discussion with an elder from my old congregation, he asked if i had been given an opportunity to see the new bibles yet.. i told him yes that a family member had showed me one a few days back and some of the improvements (changes) that were in it.. as our conversation went along he asked me what i thought of the color.

  i said well its certainly different from the black cover i was so used to or even going back further a few decades the green covered bibles when i was a child.

  (we both got a chuckle out of that).

  We can “see” Jesus’ invisible presence since 1914 through our figurative “eyes of understanding”—which I guess means that you need to order your magic Watchtower decoder glasses. Yes, don’t delay. Order Now! Just call 1 800 blah, blah, blah. (Or just look for the frigin decoder ring in your next box of Captain Crunch. . . . . Or, best yet: just come here. We’ll fix those bloody “eyes of understanding” for ya!)

  What Was Your First Experience In Exposing Yourself To "Apostasy"?

  as a young teenager, i would look at "apostate" books at the city library.

  i was always intrigued as to what was sooo bad and other than a few writings of some that seemed like they hated the witnesses, i would clandestinely look at literature, especially in "christian" bookstores.. it took years for me to finally disconnect.

  i will say that ray franz' books enlightened me the most!.

  Actually, it was this very Board that did it for me. There was a reference in one of the threads to “Spiritual Food At the Proper Time,” as featured at “http://www.freeminds.org” – it’s a chronological listing and comparison of all the Watchtower doctrines right from the start. That historical synopsis was very informative and eye-opening for me. I could see the development of that mess of contrived dogma and discrepancies – the insanity – as it played out over the years.

  I came on-board to this Board around the turn of this millennium because my dad used to scare me about sinning against the holy spirit (thus my user name), and so I figured: If I’ve already been condemned by unforgivable sin by “going too far” in the obsession of certain bizarre fantasies in my teens (it’s in my very first post), then I might was well be here – at JWDB. And the rest, as they say, “is history!”

  How many have read 'Crisis of Conscience'?

  i started it thinking it would just enlighten me about how the organisation works.

  Hi “tornapart.” I read both Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom, and I can certainly relate to where you said, “I was certain it wouldn't shake my faith. Boy! Was I wrong!!!” Although, in my case, I was certain that it would only confirm the fact that the Watchtower is not God’s organization – and indeed it did.

  The first Watchtower exposé book I read was 30 Years a Watchtower Slave, by William J. Schnell. The latest of such books I read was Apocalypse Delayed, by M. James Penton (second edition).

  The absolute best authority on the matter, of course, is our dear Raymond Franz. His above classic two books are very insightful and eye-opening, to say the least.

  “He has been asking me” . . . . Looks like you’ve been getting direct communication with God. Maybe you should start up a new magazine which divulges His thoughts apparently being expressed through you. I hear there’s some pretty good money in that. (Someone already tried that.)
