  Elder and i discussed beards, and got into rules and regulations

  during a study the elder brought out that eating blood and omens are from the devil, and brought me to leviticus 19:26 (i think).. in verse 27 i says this:.

  you must not shave the hair on the side of your head or disfigure the edges of your beard.. i said: "so why are we not allowed to have beards?".

  This issue regarding beards is somewhat similar to the WTS protecting and not reporting pedophiles to the authorities – it’s all about the public image of the WTS organization. They want to show everyone that all the JWs are superior in every way to the rest of the “world.” And this is their basis for judgment.

  They are so hyper focused on the stereotypical JW image of the squeaky-clean well-groomed polyester-suit-and-tie-wearing door-to-door literature salesman that they fail to see the Bible’s simple perspectives, such as: “For not the way man sees [is the way God sees], because mere man sees what appears to the eyes; but as for Jehovah, he sees what the heart is” (1 Samuel 16:7), “Do not let your adornment be that of the external braiding of the hair and of the putting on of gold ornaments or the wearing of outer garments, but let it be the secret person of the heart in the incorruptible [apparel] of the quiet and mild spirit, which is of great value in the eyes of God” (1 Peter 3:3, 4), and “Go, then, and learn what this means, ‘I want mercy, and not sacrifice.’” (Matthew 9:13).

  The old-timers at Bethel headquarters may look respectable, but, as Jesus said about the Pharisees: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you resemble whitewashed graves, which outwardly indeed appear beautiful but inside are full of dead men’s bones and of every sort of uncleanness. In that way you also, outwardly indeed, appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.” (Matthew 23:27, 28)

  So true worth would definitely be correct in the eye of the beholder – who is Jesus.

  “Yeah, but the light gets brighter.”

  You know that you’re likely to hear something like that, sounding like a little sound byte coming from a robot, if you call a JW on any kind of technicality. “The light gets brighter,” “The Governing Body members aren’t perfect but they’re humble, loyal, and sincere,” “Jehovah has appointed the Faithful and Discreet Slave to organize the work,” and, of course, another one of their favorites, “Where else would we go? Who else are busy doing the preaching work which Christ commanded in these last days?”

  You know that you’ll get one or more of the above no matter what inconsistency you could point out to them. It’s almost like the sound effects guy on the Howard Stern Show – just pull up a standard pre-recorded canned response from the very narrow repertoire and press “play.”

  Ran into JW's manning a table/booth at the beach.

  came across 2 of these 'booths' in 2 days.

  one at the int'l airport we landed at (hubby asked directions from them, they were knowledgable about the airport and very nice) and the other at a pier on the beach...hubby had to race over and say hi to them and i was standing there.

  the 'brother' was an arrogant boob.

  “OnTheWayOut”: “I will give them a thrill by . . . asking for their "new Bible." . . . That will make them cry out with joy. Then I will put it in the proper receptacle and ask a different JW for the same thing another day.”

  You should put their new gray Bible in your pocket and tell them that you’re looking forward to the soft feel of the new slick pages on your butt when you have to sit on the porcelain throne. And all the sweeter if there’s someone to snap a photo of the man’s face right at that instance. That would be a priceless pic.

  i think the organization is worried most about how jws will stay loyal to their families even as it rejects the admonition of the gb and elders..

  “Finkelstein”: “There is a fracturing of the frame work of this organization that is starting to show. . . . So what does the GB do? A call for loyalty directed toward themselves as a means to reconfirm their power and control.”

  Often with rogue groups and cults, when the heat is on and the only ‘light getting brighter’ is the one that shines on them and exposes them before everybody, their only response is to drag as many people down with them as they can. It’s just like they claim concerning Satan: to have a policy of “rule or ruin.” Big cults like that WTS don’t go down quietly – they tend to try to go out supernova style.

  A Mom, Dad And 2 Grown Kids (20ish) All Disfellowshipped This Week!

  it happened in a local kingdom hall this past week.. my daughter went on one of the kid's facebook accounts and he posted pics of him with 2 joints in his mouth at the same time.. i heard the parents and sibling were aware of it and never reported it to the elders..

  That would be good if they had a new family portrait done and it could be published in the local newspaper along with a little “human interest” story for the benefit of the community. (In that family photo the smiles would actually be genuine.) I think that would make a great little “feel good” life story, like the ones they put in the “Life” section of the newspaper or the Reader’s Digest, don’t you think?

  How convenient. Looks like the WTS does a good job not only with its Spring cleaning but also its housekeeping with the information in the publications and the new WT Library. Things in the past which are now messy in relation to the current “new light” just conveniently “disappear.” Yes, the Watchtowergate machine runs like a well-oiled machine.

  “sir82”: “ By far ( FAR ) the most common topic in the Watchtower is "OBEY the governing body or God will kill you".”

  That’s about it. Now it’s always, “Obey, obey, OBEY!” This constant need they have to reassert their authority is an obvious indication that that is their primary focus and that their hold on the masses is slipping. After all, those masses are not as misinformed and gullible as pre-Internet days. It looks to me that the WTS leadership is feeling cornered – just like David Koresh in his little Branch Dividians clubhouse. I’m just waiting for the final showdown with the fireworks at Patterson or Warwick. It’ll be something for us “apostates” to watch on CNN with some popcorn.

  only rational thoughts are accessible to rational arguments.

  once the category of "god" is established in your mind (usually at an early, impressionable age) you can't ever close the file.. it is unassailable.. why?because it becomes rooted before you develop rational thinking skills.. categories of ghosts, devils, superstitions hold true as well.. what you can do (since they cannot be removed) is modify your emotional reactions connected to these concepts.. what are emotions?

  they are signals (like beacons) informing you of the importance of your values.. the most deeply-rooted values signal the strongest emotional responses.. what you perceive to be a threat signals fear.

  True. That is a good caveat and warning for anyone trying to effecting and maintain their ascension out of the JW community. This rewiring of the brain (which as we know has a physical component to the process) should include both of those left-right hemispheres. We are able to get the logical, factual, linguistic, chronological information from sources such as this Web site; however, even with all of that, there can still be fairly significant and profound remnants of the JW mindset – namely fear and shame – that we can be carrying and be unaware, as they are deeply routed within the subconscious.

  I’ve heard it said on a documentary about the mind that most people think that the conscious, or “core” of our perceived reality, is running the show, but that is actually a misperception, as the vast majority of our various cognitive functioning takes place “in the background” within the various facets of the subconscious level (from controlling cardiopulmonary and endocrine function to driving and directing our actions from a primal limbic and emotional base). One needs to have an awareness of what is taking place in their subconscious as an intrinsic formation of one’s personal worth and as a powerful driving force in one’s higher-level decision making.

  Especially in our case, being former captives to the JW’s religion of the WT organization, we really need to address the hijacking of our creative right hemisphere by the dogma and policy which has been imposed upon our logical left hemisphere through the constant cultic loaded language. We have all been the victims of manipulation by repetitive linguistics every much as we have been by captives of a concept.

  One must never underestimate the power and control of our own subconscious which has for so long been hijacked by the relentless poking and prodding by the very little “man behind the curtain.”
