Mini, I sent you a PM.
People who don't use reusable shopping bags.
I use the shopping bags I get for other things such as trash can liners, suit cases, brief cases, for wet swimsuits, etc. I also have a big reusable bag.
this thread is for you to vent about anything (within guidelines) that you want.. i'll start.. i'm sick of people who complain about how cold the weather is and then you have two 85 degree days and now they can't wait till autumn!.

on the basis that most of us realise the w.t wasnt really the best " job" or way to spend our days, it would be fun to find out what people would really have liked to have done with there lifes and if this is still possible.
or maybe its not even a very realistic ambition just a dream.
in my dreams i stay at home all day and make a living from being a professional artist.maybe i need a phycholgist?.
Today, I think I'd like to go back to school for two things: to improve my artistic skills and to learn about anthropology and/or sociology. Maybe a duel major. I'd love to travel the country with a camper and work in the summers at the national parks and possibly to end up working in a museum. I'd still like to do my magazine, but maybe do it on line.

I wanted to go into a creative field and almost do go to school for commerical art. I would have liked to run a magazine for girls and young women, not like the typical ones and started programs to help girls make good decisions and to help them figure out how to value themselves and to plan well for their lives to achieve their dreams. I wanted a life filled with creativity and to help make the world a better place. I wanted to eventually find a mate that I got along well with that had similar goals and to plan a good life for future children. If I had children, I wanted their lives to have quality, love, fun, adventure and good direction.
I used to design the houses I wanted to live in and imagine what my life would be like, when I was still in elementary school. I wanted for there to be music and laughter in my home. I had lots of details worked out.
I've got possibly 35 years left until I'm 90. I'm trying to start a new chapter. I'm working on what I want for it to be like.
hay out there.. wife got back from her thursday meeting & now she's setteled down with the dog, a v large g&t (maid be me) & watching terminator 2 on the telly with her ipad on her lap looking up places to go for our holiday (& googling symptoms of to many antibiotics as my 16 year old is getting signs of ibs).
so now is a good time to say hello.. well hello.
my name is phats & i'm an ex jehovah's witness.. there, i've said it.. this must be like it is going to your first aa meeting.. i've already used up some of my posts for a newbe but i'm not in to the whole long story thing.. basically i've been out now for 8 years (mentally out for all but four or five of those years of my life when i made the commitment, got baptized & married.).
Welcome, Phats. I love your description of the scenario. I can picture it all.
is atheism a belief system.
after all the atheist believes there is no god .so if that's the case then an atheist if a person of faith.
they have faith in the fact there is no god.
After reading NavyTown's comment. Maybe belief system isn't a good way to put it. Maybe you meant to say that believing there is no god is a belief. If you add in that a person who believes there is no god, usually has alternate views of how the material universe got here, how life began, how the living things we see today came to be as they are, what counts as ethical, what happens at death, then I guess you could say it is the person's system of beliefs. I don't take it that you meant it's necessarily a religious system of beliefs.

I tire of lack of compassion.
the watchtower publishing house has been going strong now for over 100 years, publishing numerous.
books and magazines, many which are now out of circulation.
many of the doctrines created by this.
They sense that there's a plausible gimmick or dubious scam afoot, by this particular religious publishing house.
I sure wish that my brother in law and sister had sensed something wrong. They were slowly drawn in and when I moved in with them, it took six months of them discussing the religion with me for me to be worn down enough to study. I was extremely vulnerable because my brother died during that six months. There are other reasons I was vulnerable as well. I have found that if you go looking for "the truth", you might as well paint control me on your forehead.

All people are flawed and so their belief systems can be flawed. This is why I think God doesn't adopt any group or religion.

No, of course not. If we as human beings can see the corruption in the WTBTS and the harm they do, surely God would, too.
one of the things i have been wresting with mentally is unraveling the "us vs. them" mentality that has been driven into my skull in the organization.. i am starting this thread seeking advice on how others have come to grip with this.. this is what i struggle with:.
i like the feeling/thought of being among people that live, or try to live, or at least know they ought to live by higher standards of conduct (maybe it is just what i'm used to...).
when you walk out of a convention of people dressed up, clean-cut, shaven, non-smoking, less-profanity-speaking, fairly orderly etc and see what greets you in the streets outside, it is a big contrast.. i am also still trying to understand how a religion that has conned people (so is morally wrong) could also be so well organized and have a lot of truly decent folks among their ranks.
The longer you're out, the less appealing the phony modesty of the JWs will be.
Worldly people mostly dress pretty modestly and they don't all walk around cussing like sailors. They tend to be decent, very cool people. It really isn't Soddom and Gomorrah out here. The longer you are out, the more out of place "dressed up" people will look. I see JW families all dressed up, on Sundays, where I work. They look glaringly, embarrassingly out of place. It is not 1955 anymore. People don't dress up to go to the movies or out to eat anymore. People don't dress up for church anymore.
