How do you deal with depression?
by BlackWolf ini'm currently going through a bout of depression and my eating disorder has gotten worse.
ever since my parents actually told me that they are going to kick me out when i turn 18 i've felt kind of hopeless about my life.
my parents won't take me to the doctor because the psychiatrists won't have my "best interests" aka jw crap in mind, because really that's the root of all my problems.. i'm wondering if any of you guys have any advice with dealing with depression?

Something HUGE I learned upon leaving and getting years of counseling: anxiety and fear can feel like depression. JW's play on your anxiety and fears. That is why getting perspective is so important. I rarely ever feel depressed now that I've learned to recognize when I am feeling anxiety or fear, then work on getting perspective. You may just be feeling crippling fear, which hurts even physically. There is tons of hope to feel better and better. You will see. How lucky you are to aware of the cult. I was just being hornswoggled by JWs when I was 17. They really helped mess up my life! You are getting out. You're going to have a great life. -

Work on looking at the bigger picture. Work on finding perspective. Honestly, chocolate, wild caught salmon and other foods helped me as much as medications ever did. Look into St. John's Wort. Time is going to fly and you're going to able to move out of your parents home and grip. The future really is open wide. Start daydreaming of all the possibilities. And hey, nothing wrong with pretending to be the good kid your parents want you to be, biding your time until you can be free. Remember your decisions make or break your life, day to day and in the future. Make a plan for a great life. Like I said, the future is open wide.

Thank you for sharing. This was informative and meaningful. This funeral your beloved cousin planned sounds like it was healing for her to plan and for all of you to attend, strengthening even. Impressive for an atheist to do this, brave making these kinds of plans.
I think it would be helpful for me to plan my own music, etc. I planned a beautiful thing for my mother, back in 94, even though I was an inactive JW at the time. Mom was not a JW, ever, and I planned it according to how I thought she would feel most understood, appreciated and honored. She didn't know many people anymore, so I asked some of the kinder JWs I knew to attend so there would be more than just family. We have a green burial section to the cemetery closest to me. They don't do the tree thing though. They do the plain brass plate thing. I like the idea of the tree, even if you are cremated. In reading about the wicker container, it occurred to me: if we are cremated, we don't leave a record for future scientists to study. They would find a lot of amalgam fillings in my back teeth, for sure.

Captive organization. I learned something new today, from the mouth of the judge in Australia. To have people under the threat of being shunned, makes them all captives.I guess I never really thought of it this way.
After watching that video above about GB Fails, it seems pretty obvious the brother being questioned was well aware that he was dodging being held responsible for the child molestation scandal in the WTBTS. He knew he was responsible, but he was doing everything he could to try to play ignorance and lie his way out of it. The scandal is being held in their faces. They know they are guilty of failing to protect the victims and their families. The question is, why are they afraid to admit they are responsible? My guess is there is a list of reasons, including expensive lawsuits, possible criminal cases, losing face, losing members, losing continued financial support, losing the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed, needing to face the responsibility for the lives they have helped ruin...to name a few.
They may want to pretend they aren't aware of what they are doing, but they know it's blowing up in their faces, how grossly manipulative they've been; and to the detriment of millions of people inside and outside the WTBTS org. -

Things I Never Knew When I Was A Witness!
by disillusioned 2 inthere are some things that as a witness i never knew.
maybe i was just going through the motions, attending meetings and not listening much.
never was very good at personal study or underlining answers in watchtower or book study (i never ever answered up) was too shy.. i never knew when i was a witness that they taught that jesus had looked down on the earth in 1919 to see who was serving god most accurately, and of course he chose a small group of bible students living in america!

I didn't know the GB taught that Jesus was only mediator for the annointed. If I had known they were claiming we had to go through them and them through Jesus to God, I'd have waked up a hell of a lot sooner. Somehow, I missed that point. -

Does Anyone Still Believe in God?
by LaurenM indo any of you ex-jw's still believe in god?
even with the new rebranding/softening of this religion, i still don't see how people can believe in him.
the god of the old testimate is an angry murderer who approved rapes and slavery and killed thousands of men, women and children.
