The Great KH Sell-Off
by snugglebunny inre the great kh sell off: could a congregation refuse to sign over their kingdom hall to the society?
i seem to recall - many years ago admittedly - that my home kh had been paid for by voluntary donations, no loans being involved.
i have no idea what the situation is now, but i do recall that many jw's contributed a set amount every month to the kh fund until there was enough money in the pot to build one.

Could the society really impose it's will on such a congregation and actually remove it's title to the deeds?

I just don't get it. What behaviour might result in one being accused of "running ahead"?

Should Hand Held Cellphones Be Banned While Driving?
by minimus inmany states do not even allow you to hold your phone if you are driving.
do you think you should be fined hundreds of dollars for touching your phone while driving?

I've lost count of the number of times I've been on the motorway and a lorry in front has been weaving from side to side. Sure enough, when overtaking it, the driver has had his phone up to his ear or been texting with his hands across the steering wheel while holding his phone. More often than not it's a European lorry.

I remember Bill Bull. When he stopped the circuit stuff he worked around the Sheffield area for a fine art company owned by a JW in Fareham. I worked for the same company as a lorry driver and Bill Bull would sometimes put me up if I was out on the road. On one of those occasions I went to the cinema in Sheffield to watch Planet of the Apes which gives you some idea of how long ago it must have been.

New Light on the 144,000?
by Ding insomeone on facebook is claiming to have reliable information that the gb is about to announce new light on the 144,000 -- that it's symbolic, not literal.. one person suggested that they will retain the two-class teaching and just change the meaning of 144,000. his idea was that the change would avoid three problems with the current teaching:.
1. embarrassment over more and more partakers at the memorial when the number should be getting less and less.. 2. embarrassment over 12 symbolic 12,000s somehow equaling a literal 144,000.. 3. solving the problem of running out of "anointed" ones who are old enough to be on the gb.. thoughts?.

And I saw, and, look! the Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads. ...These are the ones that did not defile themselves with women; in fact, they are virgins. These are the ones that keep following the Lamb no matter where he goes. These were bought from among mankind as first fruits to God and to the Lamb, and no falsehood was found in their mouths; they are without blemish."
So why don't they just say that the comment regarding 'virgins' is to be taken literally after all. There's been so few of those around, they could delay things for hundreds of years if they felt inclined.

Ladies First
by snugglebunny ini know a lady who says she feels demeaned if a man walks on the outside or opens a door for her or stands aside to let her pass.
i just think it's good manners.
being a gentleman has nothing to do with equality in my opinion..

OK, so everyone is happy to hold the door open for someone else, regardless of gender.
But who walks on the outside of the footpath when they're with a lady? And if you do, will the lady feel pleased or demeaned?
Clue: I always walk on the outside. And I generally give up my seat for a lady if there's no-where else for her to sit. Plus I always - well nearly always - go to the bar to get the drinks. Isn't that what men do?
