So, how did the 'beard article' go over yesterday at your congregation?
by neat blue dog inat mine the conductor was somewhat awkward and minimal and there were nervous chuckles from the audience.
two people, including an elder, gave reasonable comments that it's okay as long as it's not extreme styles, etc.
but then another one of the elders commented that nothing has changed and they still aren't proper locally.

What age were you when you were counted as a publisher?
by OrphanCrow inthe wts has always included minors and adults in the same categories - publisher and baptized.. i am interested in knowing how many minors, approximately, are included in the publisher count.
and, at what age a person started publishing.

Back in the day, when I was but a callow youth, they reckoned that the election of JFK would trigger "great persecution" of JW's on account of him being a Catholic.

My gay friend went back to JWs?
by schnell inone of my best friends was disfellowshipped several years ago, and word quickly got around that it was because he's gay.
we lost touch after that because of the disfellowshipping, but since i'm out now, i just found him online and got back in touch with him.
it was a great conversation, but he said he returned to jehovah.

If a gay person returns to the JWs they are expected to remain celibate. I should imagine they are also watched intently if they speak to anyone in the congregation who are the same sex. How can anyone feel comfortable living like that? xxx
I guess that any single person who's a member of the JW's is expected to remain celibate, hetero or gay.

Election Post-Mortem
by Simon ini'm sure many people, republicans included, are shocked at the results of the 2016 presidential election.
really, wtf!.
the polls were wrong and although it's tempting to blame voter suppression and fbi interference, that would just avoid looking at the real issues for the loss.

This result just tells me that there is a whole lot more going on in the minds of the electorate than is surfacing in the media. It's another one finger gesture from the electorate to their leaders, a real "fuck you, we'll do as we like" sort of gesture. Just like in the UK, there's a rebellion among ordinary folk who are being taxed to the hilt while also being told what they can and can't say in the name of ultra-liberalism. People are being squeezed and this virtual anarchy is the result. It's certainly not logical, but I'm beginning to understand it.
