10 years on and I’m still indoctrinated

this experience highlights the level of my indoctrination, after 10 years of been a pomo.

a few months back my gf was hinting to me about what we could do for my birthday.

to be honest i just had no idea, that i even had a birthday.

Same here, ten years since I left, and its a little bit puzzling for my college-era friends and for my girlfriend (we've been together 9 years and counting). The days before my birthday I go from full "birthday negationism" to enjoy my cake at the end hahaha.

But what hurt me most, I that my mom is not a born in, so after she left the Borg, automatically restored her ways around holidays and birthdays and sometimes get mad at me for "forgetting her birthday", but it's like, "Hey, YOU RAISED ME LIKE THIS! I have no clue to my extended family dates anyway...

Did becoming a JW influence you to give up something you enjoyed ?

when i was a teenager a younger fellow workmate was involved in the sport of judo.i got interested and went along to a number of sessions and took to it like a sponge to water ,and as a sport i was happy participating in.. not that much longer another workmate was getting re-activated in the religion of jw`s.

which i had never heard o before and then got interested in that .. conflict : was judo a sport that was compatible with j.w beliefs?

sadly i decided it was not and stopped any further involvement.. to this day i resent that decision i made back then .and i`m 82 years old now.. it was a sport i was comfortable doing and i enjoyed it.and i gave it up because of the religion .who knows what i may have achieved had i continued with it.

I was ready and had the grades for Med school, but instead chose dentistry because I was so scared about being "on the other side of the blood dilemma", turned out I like being a dentist but I know that deep deep inside I lacked freedom of choice at the time and the pressure from the congregation impacted heavily on my career decision.

"overlapping generations" - this teaching makes no sense.

the word used by jesus is in the singular, not plural form.. .

This is circulating heavily in Latin America over whatsapp, specially from fathers to D.A o D.F children and some are getting to think that coming back is a good idea, mostly the ones disfellowshipped because of "sins" or "inmorality", most faders and DA's are kind of inmune to this blackmailing...

been reading here for a few years.. 4th gen jw, born and raised, served for a few years which was the catalyst for me.

the politics, backstabbing, slandering and coercive tactics in particular caused a constant internal struggle.

i started researching and focused only on the stories of ex-elders/servants to see if i was the only one - i wasn't.. the rest is history..

i was bored to death this sunday, and suddenly i remembered that it could be worse if having to attend the public meeting on a sunday, even worse, not being assigned to the sound department, accomodating, being the mic guy, or reading the wt at the platform... then i realized that i hated just "attending" and sitting at meetings, those "privileges" were the only thing i enjoyed and made my last months inside bearable.... did you enjoy these assignments?
