My brother-in-law and his family all have their own tablet! His kids are 5 and 2 and both have a tablet to use in and out of the meetings. We don't even own one in our household.
He does love to buy gadgets etc and the society has given him the green light to indulge his tech freak. But then I have to listen to his wife moaning how they don't have enough money for this or that (pretty much enssential items most of the time). Where is the logic??

I did read a book about Quakers ages ago and you have reminded me of the fact they call themselves friends.
Thanks for the link Blondie.
Just discussing it with my husband and we both agreed that if we had heard that term used over here whilst still in it would have really rang some alarm bells and creeped us out!
Lol yes def never "true friends"!

Yes "bothers" is what I have heard all my life. Just asked my Gran about it and she said some family in Canada (not JWs) also have called them the friends but had never heard of anyone over here using it it.

Ben Howard - The Fear
Chorus
I been worryin' that my time is a little unclear
I been worryin' that I'm losing the ones I hold dear
I been worryin' that we all live our lives in the confines of fear
Oh I will become what I deserve .....

How long has this been going on and where on earth does it come from? Do actual JW's call themselves it or is it just used by others?
It's weird how things differ from place to place. So much for worldwide unity and as terms go it's a pretty culty one!

Working on a Sunday morning!
by lurkernomore init's coming up to 4 months since our last meeting.
apart from three visits to the house in the first 4 weeks we've not heard a peep from anyone, except for two 'encouraging' cards from two older ladies in the local hall.. a couple self-righteous, not even exemplary witnesses, have taken it upon themselves to pre-emptively shun me on a couple occasions, which i found rather funny.. anyway my grandad needed some minor building work doing to the front of the house, which my brother and i happily agreed to do for him.
his house is on a main road running up the hill to the kingdom hall.

I don't think your being mean at all BU2B, I would be exactly the same way if it was my parents. You make your own bed at the end of the day....
As for you dad being an elder I think he should be setting an example for the congregation and if he can't support himself and your mum he is failing to live by bible standards. It is def worth going to someone about it and explaining exactly whats going on. If it backfires in some way then at least you tried and it show's up the whole body of elders in the end for being craven and not being scriptual or following bible counsel.
Another thought I had was with regards to the unemployment benefits they are receiving. I'm not sure how it works in America but here in the UK if you turn down a job in your chosen field of work or after a certain period of unemployment ANY job offer your benefit will be cut off. I know it's very underhand but could you let them know your dad has been turning down excellent job offers in his line of work? Just an idea, it's prob a different system altogether where you are but thought I would just mention it.
