the thread about magazines stopping distribution in india reminded me of a recent conversation.

a local brother said he asked for a copy of the new organisation book for publishers.

the elder told the brother to print it out if he wanted a physical copy.

Brokeback: If they were astute business men they would have abandened the printing business decades ago and moved on to something else but these wishful thinkers just keep hoping for a turn around in profits all the while pushing the pedal to the metal with denial.

Well. A person could almost get the impression that whoever had interests in a sideline company like...maybe a paper company, for example...or a company with timber interests, would be eager to keep one of the biggest consumers of paper in the US busy.

Heck, the WT even had a custom made paper named after them, and designed specifically for their needs only, at one time!

If you think the WTS is taking a hit, just think of how the paper companies feel about losing one of their biggest customers.

It wouldn't surprise me if the WTS is getting nailed for tax on printed material.

In Canada, even if they don't sell a product, they still could be levied a Goods and Services tax on the printed material they produce.

a letter was just read in out kh stating that all printing of wt and awake is ceased for the coming year and we will just place tracts on fs, countries which were cared by our branch will be cared by other countries...along with this they read the new fs form and stuff about reporting links of videos wtf..lol.

i can't tell which country perhaps that will give away a lot, any one with a similar information.

APPLICABILITY OF SERVICE TAX

Under Service Tax laws of India, various services are subject to the levy of Service Tax. NPOs being service oriented organizations work for the betterment of the poor and underprivileged sections of society. NPOs providing taxable services have to charge service tax on such services. NPOs are under obligation to collect the service tax from the persons to whom they are rendering the services and are also required to deposit it with the Government. Thus, NPOs providing taxable services would have to obtain a Service Tax Registration under Service Tax laws.

The controversial Watchtower Bible and Tract Society was banned from receiving foreign funds after the government found that it was engaged in coercive conversions.

According to the FCRA, only the organisations registered by the central government or those sanctioned "prior permission" can receive funds from abroad. The funds can only come through a declared bank account, and such organisations have to submit their audited returns to the home ministry every year.
The FCRA mechanism exists only to regulate those organisations which receive foreign funds through legal channels. To ensure more complete monitoring, the home ministry now plans to introduce a law that would compel all NGOs, including all religious organisations, to disclose their sources of funds to the government.

It is more likely that the WTS did not want to pay tax on the money that they sent to India.

India does not give the same tax exemptions to religions that the WTS is used to getting in the US.

No. I will not "ball point" that for you.

Tax laws for non-profits and charitable organizations are fairly complex and require quite of bit of time investment. I recommend, if you really are interested in this...to do your own research. This topic has been covered in past threads.

You continue to make observations and analysis based on the WTS following a "business" model. A nonprofit business model does not look or behave the same as a for profit corporation.

And no, I am not going to 'ballpoint' those differences for you - you will have to do that work yourself.

TheRebel: I appreciate the long thread but it seems to have gone of topic.

That is your opinion. In most discussion 'circles', it is common for participants to throw ideas around to discuss. It is rare that the one who asked the first question gets to control the input of others who are participating.

To clarify I am not qualified in business, so please explain how the W.T:-
a) How laying of " volunteer" bethelites even comes remotely close to solving the pursumed financial problems that the organisation has.

As was pointed out - one of the outcomes of laying off volunteer bethelites is tied up with the WTS keeping tax exempt status for nonprofit activities.

b) How an organisation does not realise the drastic measure of making " volunteer" employees redundant ". Even mind controlled sheep understand these people have no pension, or paidsocial security contributions, ect ect. Surely this will result in many awakening and leaving, or at least no longer contributing financially?
I don't get it.

That is why the ones who have participated in this conversation have attempted to give you some answers. You call that "getting off topic". We don't. We call it an 'open/public' discussion, not one that is controlled and directed by you, the one asking the question.

Just because you are not getting the answers that you want, does not mean the thread has gone off topic.

Maybe. But I think that Sanderson is too "clean". He hasn't been around there long enough to get too much dirt under his nails.

He is a good candidate to step up to the plate and clean things up. His face is all shiny clean and his assets would be best utilized in a cleanup role.

Splane is the one who had made some public comments about the WT building projects and such a few years back - he has already stuck his neck into the noose.

Hahaha! maybe we could start a "pool" on the GB who are the most likely to be "stoned".
