  dean: Correct me if I'm wrong but the ARC has never suggested that the WT had a policy intentionally, proactively designed to harm children as the above article suggests. I'm no fan of 'the truth' but I am a big fan of truth.

  You are right - the ARC never suggested it - this author is suggesting it.

  The author at no point claims that the ARC "suggested that the WT had a policy intentionally, proactively designed to harm children". What the article does do, though, is extrapolate that information from the testimony given.

  The author is saying "...It looks like that is the unspoken policy...". In other words - that is the impression given.

  WARWICK - A slew of companies sued by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society say they don’t bear responsibility for contaminating the Warwick site where the religious group is building its massive world headquarters, and will therefore not pay for it.
  Watchtower, better known as Jehovah’s Witnesses, has agreed to dismiss the case against one of the companies, Vale Canada, because New York courts do not have jurisdiction over foreign businesses. Vale Canada is the parent company of International Nickel Inc., which owned the Warwick property from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s.
  The suit was filed in New York’s Southern District in June against International Nickel and 10 other companies that Watchtower says are affiliated with the mining company. Some of the companies named in the lawsuit are Inco Alloys International, Inc., Huntington Alloys Corporation, Special Metals Corporation, Precision Castparts and Inco United States.
  International Nickel had a foundry and a research-and-development operation on the site. Watchtower purchased the property in 2009.
  The companies named in the lawsuit say they either didn’t own the business, or didn’t pollute the land, or are not liable. At least one of the companies – Huntington Alloys Inc. - doesn’t exist, according to a court filing by Huntington Alloys Corporation.
  Watchtower did not return a call for comment.
  In its lawsuit, Watchtower says International Nickel ran a wastewater-treatment plant at the site to handle effluent, and also owned underground tanks to store fuel and other hazardous material.
  Watchtower claims that International Nickel discharged petroleum and oils containing polychlorinated byphenyls - or PCBs - into the wastewater treatment plant, and into the soil and groundwater, thereby contaminating the environment at the property. PCBs, which are probable human carcinogens, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, were banned in the United States in 1979.
  It isn’t clear when Watchtower discovered the contamination. It contacted the state Department of Environmental Conservation in 2012, according to the lawsuit.
  Watchtower is seeking unspecified reimbursement for the cost it has incurred in the cleanup and remediation. It is also seeking damages, restitution and attorney fees.
  Warwick Supervisor Mike Sweeton said the site has been cleaned as part of the approval process. Watchtower is building offices, apartments to house 1,000 adults, a cafeteria, a vehicle-maintenance building, an infirmary and a parking garage at the site.
  Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

  I made a post earlier today that I think is pertinent to this WTS NY property sale.

  I posted it on my long winded "Lorenz Reibling Real Estate" thread and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to wade through that one!

  In general, we see, from Watchtower Australia, how depriving a person of Fellowship was seen as a severe punishment. Indeed, ostracism from the group has always been a standard means by which a society attempts to control the behavior of members.
  I point to an important obstruction of justice in this group’s protocols. If only one individual complained, with no witness to the act, the elders did not form a judicial committee to investigate. Since when does intimate sexual behavior have witnesses?
  I hope the Royal Commission, in its summing up, will not just say “OK, we have located the stumbling block. It was the bit about unwitnessed acts not earning a judicial committee.” I would want them to think about the possibility that such a rule was purpose-built for sexual abuse.
  As I have said elsewhere, I smell a rat, or a racket, in the entire phenomenon of church officials shielding the child abuse. Let me stick my neck out and say that we should inquire into the possibility that that the harming of children was a policy.
  Personally I suspect it was so. Hurting children was a goal, not a byproduct of some priests’ sexual addiction. At the moment that appears to be the best explanation for the very peculiar testimony that the commission is receiving from church officials on the witness stand.

  Flipper: Can you imagine if Lennon's killer had been stalking him for years and years - how creepy would THAT be ? Gives me the chills just thinking about it. I swear- there are so many psycho's in this world it's pathetic.

  Chapman was quite insane. He had made an earlier trip to New York in October with intent to kill Lennon but wasn't successful until the December shooting.

  He had been a big Beatles fan, idolizing Lennon, and played guitar himself, but turned against him after claiming to become a Christian; he was angered at Lennon's comment that the Beatles were "more popular than Jesus."

  I read Catcher in the Rye a few years back, curious about the novel that Chapman had so readily and obsessively identified with. It seemed a rather innocuous novel until at one point (I can't remember which chapter), it was brilliantly revealed that the protogonist was insane. Very insane. After that, the novel became chilling.
