Assets for the Canadian branch in 2014 were listed as being worth $91,645,960. And $148,806,787 in 2013.
And now they have zero in assets??
It seems like the Canadian branch has now been subsumed by the New York branch.
okay, they've posted their 2015 return - i am very confused.. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/haip/srch/t3010form23-eng.action?b=119288918rr0001&fpe=2015-08-31&n=watch+tower+bible+and+tract+society+of+canada+%2f+la+tour+de+garde+soci%c3%a9t%c3%a9+de+bibles+et+de+tracts+du+canada&r=http%3a%2f%2fwww.cra-arc.gc.ca%3a80%2febci%2fhaip%2fsrch%2fbasicsearchresult-eng.action%3fk%3dwatch%2btower%26amp%3bs%3dregistered%26amp%3bp%3d1%26amp%3bb%3dtrue.

Holy crap.
Where did all the money go? And property?
Did the charity own land and/or buildings? 4050 No
Total assets (including land and buildings) 4200 $ 9,676
Did the charity issue tax receipts for gifts? 4490 Yes
If yes, enter the total eligible amount of all gifts for which the charity issued tax receipts. 4500 $ 14,605
Total other gifts received for which a tax receipt was not issued by the charity (excluding amounts at lines 4575 and 4630) 4530 $ 4,599
Total revenue (add lines 4500, 4510 to 4570, and 4575 to 4650) 4700 $ 19,204
So...the Canadian branch donations only totaled $19,204?
And, the WTS of Canada doesn't own any property???
The WTS has done some major re-structuring.

Oh, so the JW led unit for non-blood surgery wasn't as good as it should have been and the patient died? Wow!
Exactly.
The perpetuated myth of "us" versus "them" in the medical world is erroneous. It is actually "us" versus "us". There is no "them" in this situation.

TheListener: And since when do JWs control bloodless surgery units right in the hospitals themselves?
They always have. Who do you think established the bloodless surgery units to begin with? Many of the bloodless units have been founded by and are run by JWs.
One of the very first bloodless units was established by a JW - Jan Castro at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago back in 1987.
...Jan Castro, coordinator of the Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery. She is a licensed practical nurse and a Jehovah`s Witness.
I guess I don't get it. The person wanted bloodless surgery, got bloodless surgery and died. Why is anyone owing the family money?
Because the standard of care at the bloodless unit was below standard.
hello all i am fairly new to this site even though i have been da since i was 16 years old i am now 35 years old.
i have had very little contact with my family since i left maybe a handful of times over the years.
i thought i put the past behind me and moved on i have 4 amazing kids of my own really supportive partner and great friends who have become my family.
Leela: However, I am worried about going back and dealing with him again and all the emotions it will bring and whether it is really worth going through it as he probably has not changed.
My question is if any of you have been DA or DF from your family and have had little to no contact did you reach out to your family members for closer later on? Or do any of you have any direct experience dealing with a JW family member who passed away? Did you get to go to the funeral? What happened? were you allowed at the service or the wake? How did you find seeing your family members after such a long time with no contact? Any comments would be helpful before I make the decisions to try to see my dad.
Yes, if you decide to go see your father, it will bring up all sorts of extreme and difficult emotions.
However, on the plus side, you will be in the position of being the one with the power. Going to see your father could be quite healing for you - just to be physically in the room with him when he is powerless and you have all the power, could be very empowering for you.
He will be the one who is sick and without power - you will be the powerful one. You will have the strength when he has none. You will no longer be the child with the powerful father - you will be the adult with all the power.
Good luck. And don't forget that you are all grown up now - you are no longer that child without power. Walk into the room as the adult woman you are. Bravely and without fear.

Relax??
Don't be condescending.
You had a standard, pre-programmed response to the OP that stated an inaccurate opinion and painted the JW's "hospital support system" as being superior. It isn't.
I think you should be the one who relaxes.

DY: Regardless...
Yeah...regardless of your inaccurate and knee jerk reaction....
jworg is carrying a "news" article concerning their recent win of a telly award.. i don't need to add to the jworg website hits, so here is the award listed on the telly award website:.

Juan: Worthless on a resume, unless the hiring manager has no idea what a Telly is.
Or...as in the case of JWorg, it is worthless unless the people reading the JWorg website have no idea what a Telly is. For the Watchtower, those purchased statuettes are pure gold to be used as propaganda tools.

DY: This is why is so important to do one's homework finding hospitals and doctors that respect the JW stance and treat accordingly prior to facing an emergency.
The team of JWs that take care of finding hospitals and physicians which accommodate the bloodless belief do a great job in this regard here in the USA.
The money awarded is not nearly enough. I would've gone for millions.
Oh for Gawd's Sake. Do your homework. Your post is a propaganda fueled statement that comes from a position of ignorance.
The hospital and the blood management team who treated this women were JWs.
Check it out.
Atlanta Medical Center is a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia operated by Tenet Healthcare. It has 460 beds and over 700 physicians, a Level I trauma center, a Level III neonatal unit, and supports air ambulance service via heliport.
Be sure to read the reviews of Atlanta Medical Center.
Atlanta Medical Center operates a Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Unit.
To ensure the best experience possible for every patient, Atlanta Medical Center provides a full-time program administrator to assist patients and their families throughout the consultation, admission and procedure process with:
Physician referral
Assistance with outpatient services
Scheduling
Family member accommodations
The program administrator, Brenda Depena-Gray, is intimately familiar with the religious issues involved in bloodless medicine. As program coordinator for Atlanta Medical Center’s Bloodless Medicine & Surgery program, her goal is to ensure that each individual’s decision to participate in a bloodless medicine procedure is both understood and respected. To facilitate this, she is personally engaged with the patient and his or her surgeon. Brenda’s personal interactions help healthcare professionals involved in the care of that patient to better understand the individual’s needs and expectations during treatment.
- worked for United Airlines from 1983 - 2011 (customer service and airport operation)
- in 2011, Brenda magically transformed herself from a customer service rep at an airport into ... a Registered Nurse who, in June 2010 (while still booking flights at the airport), became theDirector of Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program at the Atlanta Medical Center.
Brenda's Volunteer Experience & Causes:
- Pioneer - JW.org
Brenda claims the following as her education - (I am not sure when she fit all that in - if it was in between her airport experience and pioneeering....not sure how that worked out...)
Clayton State University
BSN, Registered Nursing, Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing
Howard University
Bachelor of Science (BS), Human Biology
So...that is who is the director of the Bloodless Unit at Atlanta Medical Center - a Jehovah Witness woman who somehow gained registered nursing education and experience in between booking flights at the airport and door knocking.
Let's take a look at Tenet Healthcare that operates Atlanta Medical Clinic.
Tenet Healthcare employs a special Blood Conservation Program Coordinator;
Hired to create, oversee, and market the Blood Conservation Program. Blood utilization was reduced and the patient population increased as a result of the program.
And...who is this special guy? the one who claims this on his professional profile? :
Accomplishments:
Managed Program at two hospital campuses
Developed Policies and Procedures
Created new patient forms
Wrote marketing brochures
Established Anemia Clinic
Facilitated contract with Jehovah's Witnesses Headquarters
Featured on Channel 10's Health Beat report
I have talked about this guy before. He came up the ranks of the bloodless cult through the Hospital Liaison Network.
He is the dude who "Created a database company specializing in improving patient outcomes and lowering blood utilization cost. Company was acquired by Haemonetics in 2007. Traveled extensively in US to meet with hospital administrators regarding better blood utilization..."
And that....is who controls the bloodless medicine unit at Atlanta Medical Center.
Watchtower trained people. The same Watchtower that told that woman to not take blood in the first place.

Doubtfully Yours: Can the hating stop already?!
Don't be ridiculous. Since when is being honest and exposing hypocrisy considered "hate"?
