Yes.

Sanchy: I just dont think gov bans on the JW faith benefit anyone.
Well...it will benefit those Russian JWs who are pulled into the WTS' ridiculous doctrine about blood. It will benefit Russian medical professionals who wouldn't have to sit by and watch their patients die needlessly. It will benefit all the children whose mothers need blood - those children will have a chance to grow up with a mother. It will benefit families who have a loved one that can now live instead of die.
*I posted the following on a thread that Lee started concerning the WT's blood ban and Russia's ban against them but I will move it here because it is pertinent to this thread too...
Lee: In a move that will certainly be carefully analyzed, the Russian Supreme Court has upheld a lower court ban on Jehovah's Witnesses, in large part due to their controversial policy on the remaining prohibition of whole blood and some blood products that remain essential in certain emergency situations and conditions.
I think that the blood ban is where the Russian courts are "drawing a line in the sand".
In spite of all the hype and publicity concerning the distribution of "extremist" literature and the incidents of JWs breaking the law by trying to convert others, the blood ban is certainly a large reason as to why the JWs are facing a ban in Russia.
DOCTORS IN COURT: "JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES DIED AFTER REFUSING BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS"
Two doctors were summoned into court as witnesses in order to learn whether religious convictions have affected the state of health of Jehovist patients and whether they could be the cause of the death of patients.
A toxicologist from the Stary Oskol city hospital described how in 2001 a man and his wife who had been poisoned by toadstools were brought to her department. The husband, who was in critical condition, immediately had a blood transfusion in order to cleanse his organism from toxins. But the woman, who felt better than her spouse, refused hemosorption and plasmapharesis.
"The patient was conscious and she herself signed documents refusing blood transfusion. An attorney visited her and persuaded the Jehovist not to consent to these medical procedures and he promised to move her to Moscow where there is a hospital with equipment that permits cleansing the organism of poison without blood transfusion. The husband, who is not a member of the congregation, tried to persuade his wife to do everything that the doctors were recommending, but she was unmoved. The lawyer, who promised help, did not visit the next day. The woman was not moved to the capital hospital. In the end, she died from necrosis of the liver.
"At the last moment, the woman nevertheless agreed to one of the procedures, but it was already too late. In principle, members of the congregation could have moved her to the capital by air ambulance, or have brought other equipment into our hospital which permits cleansing the organism without transfusion. But they did not do this, although the lawyer had promised. In our turn, we were not able to do anything, since we treat with the equipment that we have. And in our city hospital it is possible to remove poison from an organism only by means of pumping the stomach and transfusing blood. This incident made a very strong impression on me. After all, I could have helped this woman at the time, but I was not able to. She refused the transfusion and she died in torment, being conscious all the time," the doctor toxicologist related this sad story.
In the above case, it is telling that the JW lawyer was involved and promised the patient alternative medical care. That alternative care did not happen, the JW congregation was unable to give the support she expected - the WT's promises were empty.
warwick article.
millie: So patriotism eh?
I guess it could have been just about anything couldnt it?
Pretty much. But the Boys Scouts' mandate to educate children on how to be good citizens is the primary reason why scouting is off limits to JWs.
Huh. The Boys Scouts were probably working on their "good citizen" badge - by working with the JWs they were doing a good deed because they were teaching a bunch of religious nuts how to be good citizens. Someone had to teach them and who better than the Boys Scouts?

Anders: So shutting that organization down strangely might mean that a lot of people have more freedom of religion...
That is exactly it.
For all the people who cry out that Russia doesn't recognize "freedom of religion", what they fail to realize is that the WTS takes away freedom of religion. Russia has recognized that individual freedom is more important than an American corporation's freedom to enslave the Russian people with their harmful doctrines and practices.

Giordano: Once again other corrupted religions are instigators encouraging the Government to be the hammer.
I think it is a bit short sighted to blame the "hammer" on being instigated by "other corrupted religions".
Not everyone who is anti-JW is part of "other corrupted religions". Russia has concerned citizens who engage in activism against the WTS' dangerous policies and teachings (...we have apostate friends in Russia, too).
Russia also has activists:
A group of local "anti-sect" activists, Youth Emergency Assistance, has claimed credit for triggering the Belgorod liquidation suits by repeatedly filming Jehovah's Witnesses in the streets and informing police of the distribution of allegedly "extremist" literature. The group has posted videos on its VKontakte page of members confronting Jehovah's Witnesses who have set up literature stands, then calling the police, who arrive and take the Jehovah's Witnesses away, often accompanied by the activists.
Previously, a Russian judge made a statement as to why the JWs were considered in violation of Russia's laws:
...Belgorod Regional Prosecutor's Office accused the Jehovah's Witnesses of "violations .. associated with the dissemination of extremist content (advocating the superiority or inferiority of a person on grounds of religious affiliation or attitude to religion) .. an inclination to refuse medical assistance to people in a life-threatening condition on religious grounds, and the destruction of family and kinship relations on the basis of religious differences".http://www.forum18.org/archive.php?article_id=2161

Longhair gal: they will probably try to defy the law because they feel it is expected of them.
Exactly.
One of the expectations of JW membership is that they are to be anti-government at all times and especially when the WTS deems it to be appropriate.
The JWs are anti-everything but what really gets them in hot water is their anti-government stance. And their suicidal loyalty requirements under the blood ban.
They behave as though they are a resistance force led by a US based religion that attempts to force their version of "freedom of religion" on everybody else. They call themselves a religion but they behave like a political force.
i heard through the grapevine about a forthcoming book:.
together through the great tribulation - come to jehovah's mountain.
still awaiting solid confirmation though.
bohm: ...I think it would make a lot of sense to make a new revelation book which simply omitted a lot of the embarrassing stuff.
I agree. An abbreviated and sanitized version of Revelation will trump some of the crazy stuff and obvious errors in past publications.
The WTS needs a new streamlined Revelation book to go along with their streamlined website. A new Revelation book/pamphlet would make the other books "past expiry date". As in..."oh, but we don't believe that anymore..."
The old Revelation commentary is a skin that needs shedding...and they are going to grow a shiny new one
i don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.
they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.
but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.
JamesJack: he paused and said: This is why all of us should try to learn to use these devices because if forced to leave our homes, we can easily carry our devices and be able to receive information from the Faithful Slave from anywhere...
Of course.
That makes soooo much sense. The JWs are "forced to leave their homes" but the WTS is still online...beaming out directives to the 'banned' and persecuted JWs
Okey dokey....
