  Blood Issue.......something for thought, where is the logic.

  i have yet to read about the contradictions in the jw teachings on blood, but i have personally witnessed one.

  i am a medical professional and have seen hemopure administered for an active jw who did refuse a blood transfusion.

  its not fda approved here, but given in special life saving circumstances.

  TD: one of the Hb based substitutes in competition with Hemopure and Polyheme was in fact made from donated human blood whose shelf life had expired. (Hemassist by Baxter Laboratories)

  You are correct that Hemassist was made from expired human blood, but so was Polyheme (made by Northfield labs). Polyheme has also been used on JW patients.

  Hemassist clinical trials, in the late 90s, were halted when the subjects died at a much greater rate than those who didn't receive it.

  In fact, all the blood "substitutes" that have been tried on JWs have proven to be less effective than blood itself

  in the aftermath of the valentine's day school shooting in florida, i have read quite a number of articles, blogs and posts about the event.

  it is disturbing--and i think inexcusable--that many people take the opportunity to use horrible tragedies such as this to push their own particular agenda.. in particularly insensitive and tone-deaf tweet, conservative political commentator tomi lahren wrote: "can the left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda?

  'Don't shoot me': Documents reveal chilling account of La Loche shooting spree that killed 4, injured 7
  

  At one minute after 1 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2016, a teenager in La Loche, Sask., wrote a text message to a group of friends.
  That message began: "im done with life."
  The teen had just killed two people. He was about to kill more.
  A friend replied to that initial message by writing: "Why?"
  More than two years after the shooting, that question still hangs in the air.
  During police interviews and in a statement he read in court, the shooter has given no rationale for why he killed four people or shot up his school.
  During a week-long sentencing proceeding, the only hint at a motive was that the teen felt he was "hated at school."
  But it's clear from court documents that a few minutes after that text message exchange with friends, the teen walked into the Dene Building of the La Loche Community School with a shotgun and opened fire.
  By the time the carnage was over, two people in that school were dead — teacher Adam Wood, 35, and teacher's assistant Marie Janvier, 21 — and seven more were wounded.

  The New York state Department of Health says a tourist from Australia who has been confirmed to have measles visited hotels in New York City along with some places in the Hudson Valley.
  State health officials say the tourist was part of an Oasis Bible Tour group at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, and visited the Watchtower Educational Center in Patterson in Putnam County, a hotel and urgent care center in Orange County and Orange Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department. This was between February 16 – 21, potentially exposing others to measles. They say the risk of developing measles is very low, especially for people who have been immunized.
  The following is from a news release from the NYS DOH:
  Anyone who visited the following locations may have been exposed:

  • La Quinta Inn, 31 W. 71st Street, New York, NY, between February 16 and the morning of February 19, 2018.

  • Oasis Bible Tours at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Avenue, New York, NY, the morning of February 16, and the evening of February 17, 2018.

  • Watchtower Educational Center, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, NY, between 12:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on February 19, 2018.

  • Best Western Hotel, 1324 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, from February 19 until 12:00 p.m. on February 20, 2018.

  • Comfort Inn & Suites Goshen – Middletown, 20 Hatfield Lane, Goshen, NY, from 4:30 p.m. on February 20 until 10:30 a.m. on February 21, 2018.

  • Excel Urgent Care, 1 Hatfield Lane, Goshen, NY, between 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on February 21, 2018.

  • Orange Regional Medical Center, Emergency Department, 707 E. Main Street, Middletown, NY, between 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on February 21, 2018.

  These times reflect the period that the infected individual was in these areas and a two-hour period after the individual left the area, as the virus remains alive in air and on surfaces for up to two hours. This explains the overlap in times.Those individuals lacking immunity or who are not sure if they have been vaccinated, should contact their health care provider if they develop measles symptoms. Symptoms include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis or runny nose. Symptoms usually appear in 10-12 days after exposure. Individuals who may have been exposed and who lack immunity could begin experiencing symptoms at this time.To prevent the spread of illness, the Department is advising individuals who may have been exposed and who have symptoms consistent with measles to contact their health care provider, a local clinic, or a local emergency department before going for care. This will help to prevent others at these facilities from being exposed to the illness.Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by a virus that is spread by direct contact with nasal or throat secretions of infected people. People first develop a fever, then may have a cough, runny nose and watery eyes, followed by appearance of the rash.The state Department of Health will issue a health advisory to health care providers in the metropolitan New York City region to notify them of the potential exposure. Health care providers should report all suspected cases of measles to their local health department.

  in this picture we learn that your loving family who wants to continue sharing a family tradition with you, who hands you a beautifully wrapped present with a smile on their face, is in fact bullying you.

  I have always understood a rifle and a shotgun to be distinctly different. That's all. Carry on...

  (I also understand a shotgun to be an "assault weapon" - very effective in small spaces and a short range)

  Update on Detroit-Area Murder Suicide - Front Page Article

  this was on the front page of freep.com this morning - sadly there are some factual errors in this article that people will jump on (not allowed to go to college was in original article for instance - hopefully the reporter will correct it).

  Dio: After all, if you take JW doctrine to it's logical and most extreme conclusion, dying before the big A is almost your only hope of being resurrected....especially if you know you are inoccent of any sin but are not allowed to be a member of the one true religion.

  Yes.

  That is the aspect of shunning that is the most abhorrent and the most damaging. Shunning acts as a death sentence. Once someone is disfellowshipped and/or shunned, the one being shunned has been condemned to death at the Big A. No resurrection. No paradise. Dead forever. Unless they die first.

  And I don't think that five years is near enough time to get rid of those ingrained notions. Cult thinking stays with some people for a long, long time.
