Jesus Christ—The Greatest Scientist (and Psychologist) who ever lived on earth!
by Ireneus inif we eliminate all the controversial and confusing verses attributed to jesus we will get the crystal clear truth from him because his source was (1) god which can be seen from his habit of early morning talking to god in prayer (mark 1:35; john 8:1, 2) which would not have been for material blessings (mathew 6:8; 16:24), and (2) also observance of people.. 1) jesus who said judgment is based on whether we acted humanely or not (mathew 25:31-46) would not have spoken about god’s people and pagans (which means bulk of the things found in gospel had not been spoken/done by jesus).. 2) another important truth he said was about the real key to our happiness which he said is with each one of us.
(luke 17:21).
from his observance of history, he knew there are people from adversities who made great contribution to the world; and there are people from all abundance who lived a life of wastage accomplishing nothing; and there are people who are mixed in varying degree.

It is the case, Morph.
In fact, nonprofits are encouraged to find creative ways to raise money and licensing deals are certainly on the drawing board
The nonprofit industry has expanded lots in the past couple decades. Huh. You can even do university classes and get a degree in nonprofit management now, or so I am told. I haven't dug into it it much. I had my fill of the nonprofit sector a few years back.

Morph: A licensing fee isnt off the books
Of course.
But you are dealing with the WT
"Licensing fee" could very well mean "donation". You know... "voluntary" (wink wink)
Just give it a label and let er fly
*by the way...it is perfectly acceptable for charities to collect royalties and licensing fees

I'm pretty sure the WTBS could collect licensing fees on its logo without jeopardizing their tax free status.
Uhmmm.... why do you think that?
haha! That's easy...under the table deal - pay us "donations" (a percentage of your take - wink wink) or you will be "going against Jehobah".
Easy peasy - donate or get disfellowshipped - plenty of loyal JWs to take your place at the store

Any information about an apostate from the 30s?
by paradiseseeker inhere in spain we have just had a special visit from the central branch representative (well i'm not sure what his position is) and in his talk he mentioned an episode in which an apostate and his supporters were expelled from bethel in the early 30s under rutherford's rule.
i didn't catch the name, it was something like "shutter" or "shulter".
this event was mentioned to bring attention to a woman who was very close to this apostate and just because of that she was unfairly expelled from bethel as well, but she was "humble" and "content" enough to leave the matter on jehovah's hands and she was reaccepted in bethel after a while.

Giordano: When I was a pioneer I always thought what a shame it was that we couldn't push a line of Avon Products
Haha!
I know a JW woman (still active) who has done this for years. Avon distributor for over 50 years. She still does it. She really likes going out to rural areas and doing a double whammy. She carries her Avon orders in her vehicle along with her JW literature. She leaves a tract and an Avon Catalog.
Anyone who knows this lady, knows exactly who I am talking about. ;)

Will the Watchtower Company in the near future start asking for a tithe?
by Sour Grapes init appears that the borg has some financial issues and i would think they are related to the hush money being paid out for the child molestation lawsuits to protect the guilty cult members and the fine untarnished reputation of the jdubs.. we have seen how much the borg refers to the hebrew scriptures for their guiding principles whenever it suits the borg's needs.
tithing certainly is laced throughout the old testament.
under the mosaic law, there were three tithes.

sir82: Why would they change unless there was a need?
Maybe there is a need.
Once the JW religion was split off from the main corporation and tried to become an independent entity, maybe, just maybe, all those big private donations to "the society" ended up bypassing the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and going directly into "the society's" coffers.
The need could simply be the need for this smaller corporate structure to pull its own weight within the WT corporate structure.

sir82: Actual implementation of it would be pretty solid evidence that they really are hurting for money
Actually, it could be simply evidence that the org has adopted the same funding model as all other churches. That's all.
A mandatory individual "tithe" (wouldn't necessarily have to be exactly 10%) would be another useful benchmark to use to see who qualifies for "special privileges of service".
Which makes sense seeing as that is how other churches maintain their membership roll. Once a person becomes a donating/tithing member of a church, it qualifies them for church membership and things like funeral privileges, etc. At one time, that was the main reason for being a church member - to be on church records. Which a person got in return for giving $$$ to the church
