The bridge
by truthwillsetyoufree inso my father, who is an active jehovah’s witness, told me yesterday of an experience currently doing its rounds amongst the witnesses in relation to cart witnessing.
there is a bridge called ‘the bridge’ which is a well known place for people committing suicide.
apparently the jws have been setting up there literature carts there for a while now and ever since they have there has been no more suicide attempts from the bridge.

I am curious
How did you manage to get a "silver sword"? Was it a gift? Did you pick one up at the KH? Just curious seeing as you left about 16 years ago...just wondering how inactive and faded JWs get their hands on the new Bibble. A free gift from a cart witness maybe?

steve2: Why would any self-respecting woman want to be a part of a belief system that takes as its starting point women’s full submission to men?
Because bible and jehovah and paradise and all of that...perfection is coming. Soon.
Most of them don't know that they have any other option. They don't realize that women have the right to vote and the right to say no.

EverApostate: And Watchtower bypasses this by allowing women to act in a conversation, indirectly speaking as well as preach in the congregation.
And not only that. A JW woman is perfectly fine when she is talking to males outside of the congregation. Then, she is required and expected to take the teaching role and many JW women do so with pride.
The prohibitions against the women in the org only apply within the congregation and it is only JW males who are entitled to the women's deference. JW males only.

How were God’s true worshipers to determine virginity of pagan girls?
by Ireneus inin the genocidal instructions supposedly given by god we find this interesting command: “now kill all the boys.
and kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.” (numbers 31:17, 18).
in the midst of killing and plundering, how were the israelites to determine whether each girl “has slept with a man” or not?.

daysoffuturepassed: weep for her father and
her mother a whole lunar month; and after that you should have relations with
her, and you must take possession of her as your bride, and she must become
your wife.”—Deuteronomy 21:12, 13.
And yes, for sure he waited a month before having sex with her.Huh.
The reason that she was required to "mourn" for a lunar month was probably simple. That was to ensure that she wasn't pregnant and that any child she had later would belong to her rapist
I suspect that "virgin" in this context was simply a young woman who hadn't had a child - fertile and ready to become the one to birth babies for the tribe

Fading albatross:
to attend to her nails, perhaps ‘paring her nails close’ so that even if they were
colored, her hands would not look attractiveHuh. Paring down the nails had nothing to do with attractiveness and likely everything to do with rendering the woman helpless. Nails are often the only real weapon a woman has

Request for Australian research: ban on Jehovah's Witnesses in 1941
by JW83 ini am planning on revisiting my (academic) research into the banning of jws in australia in 1941, and was wondering if anyone would have contacts i could interview?
this is obviously a long shot (and it may be children/grandchildren) but i thought it may be worth a shot!.
i am an ex-jw and academic historian, you can see my former published work on jws here: http://www.flinders.edu.au/sabs/shir/our-research/research-journals/fjhp/2008.cfm.

Hello JW83. I checked your references in the link you provided and I didn't see this letter referenced. Not sure if you can use it or not...or if it is relevant to your research
This is a letter written in 1941 to the Australian WT branch:

Cart work faces headwinds.
by lastmanstanding inmy little bethel bird has whispered in my ear some encouraging news.
it has been reported to the canadian branch that some witnesses doing cart work had police stop them from carting in public parks.
the direction sent to the southern ontario congregations is to cease carting until further notice.. this is no joke.. have a jw-free day..

Vendor fees and liability insurance - the two biggest obstacles to cart "witnessing"
If carts are visible in your community, it is an indication that the JWs in your area have the money to engage in advertising for the cult
No carts means that the JWs are poor/tight. Or that Sophia's piggy bank is empty

Newspaper reports: Dutch government will initiate inquiry into child abuse within JW community
by Anders Andersen intoday a dutch newspaper published an in-depth follow-up item on jw abuse issues.. the most interesting part of the article is this:.
the politicians also let themselves be heard.
a month ago the house of representatives voted unanimously in favor of a motion to enforce an independent inquiry into abuse within the jehovah's witnesses, as the organization refuses to initiate it.

Doubter: Obviously, I mean that just because people say something is true, doesn’t make it true.....
Again, facts ARE NOT determined by popular vote, nor by interpreting evidence based on your relative position.Haha! Yeah.
You are a typical JW.
Everybody else says "Hey! Look at that crow!" And you say..."It's a cow"
Cow, you missed my point..
Nah. I didn't miss your point. I am well aware of the difficulty you have in grasping simple concepts.
Mooooo!!!!!
