I realize that the history of the JW religion isn't something that most current JWs are concerned with...but how can we forget
C. J. Woodworth: The Demon Possessed Editor of The Golden Age
Notions of demon possession run deep in the JW cult.
does anybody remember some of the sensational demon stories jw's would tell back in the day?
i was a kid in the early 80's and i remember a few times hearing of people having real life encounters with demons.
for example, one sister claimed that before she became a jdub she would regularly talk to demons and they would even fix stuff like her washing machine!

Hiemere, I think your hypothesis is upside down. The JWs have never needed demons stories and such to come in from the 'outside'. They have had plenty of material concerning demons and such right from the Mother's mouth - years and years of it
https://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/bible-teach/angels-and-demons-spirit-creatures/
People who want to serve Jehovah need to get rid of everything related to spiritism. That includes books, magazines, movies, posters, and music recordings that encourage the practice of spiritism and make it seem appealing and exciting. Included, too, are amulets or other items worn for protection against evil.
the hypocrisy is astounding.

in this first link to the mother, we are educated as to what is the scarlet-colored beast of revelation chapter 17?.

In this first link to the Mother, we are educated as to What Is the Scarlet-Colored Beast of Revelation Chapter 17?
Here is what the org says about the beast:
The Bible’s answer
The scarlet-colored beast, described in Revelation chapter 17, is a symbol of the organization whose purpose is to unite and represent the nations of the world. It first existed as the League of Nations and is now the United Nations.
Well, that's clear. No questions there. The scarlet colored beast is the United Nations. But we knew that.
And, the beast is not in God's favor at all:
Dishonors God. The United Nations was established “to maintain international peace and security.” * While this goal might seem to be praiseworthy, the UN actually dishonors God by claiming to do what he has said only his Kingdom will accomplish.—Psalm 46:9; Daniel 2:44.
Now let's check out what the Mother has to report on about South Korea in this article they published this past July Jehovah’s Witnesses in South Korean Prisons File Additional Complaints:
Since January 2016, more than 50 South Korean men who are conscientious objectors have submitted complaints to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (Working Group). The objectors allege that the government of South Korea is guilty of arbitrary detention by punishing them with imprisonment for the legitimate exercise of freedom of religion and conscience.
Basis of the Complaints
Two UN bodies, the Working Group and the UN Human Rights Committee, have determined that imprisoning conscientious objectors to military service is “arbitrary detention.” * The Committee’s 2014 decision on this issue determined that the government of South Korea should stop this unjust punishment of conscientious objectors, compensate those whom it has imprisoned, and expunge their criminal record. On the basis of that decision, a total of 682 South Korean Witnesses have brought complaints before the Working Group.
Here is what I don't get. Why does the United Nations support an organization that calls them the Scarlet Beast of Revelation? Does the UN not know how duplicitous the WTS is? How can the JWs in South Korea have any standing whatsoever with the UN after the way that the org degenerates the UN??
Eh...maybe the UN is like the parent who gives their kid a candy even after the kid throws a tantrum and screams out "I hate you mommy!".
And the WTS is like the kid who runs to the teacher they hate, when the bully in the playground throws sand in their eye
this father contacted us a few months ago about his experience with the watchtower's blood policy, and how his daughter nearly died as a result of it.
hopefully, other jw parents can learn from this before the wt policy claims the life of their child.
the wts has very few meaningful interventions or "non blood alternatives" for anemia.
An excellent article, Lee. Thanks for posting.
This article really brings out the blindness of so many JWs - how they blindly follow the WT directive and have faith that their best interests are being looked after. And then, when the chips are down...they find out that they have not been given adequate medical information.
For all those years that I had filled out and signed the medical directive** on blood for JWs, I did it without anyone telling me about anemia or other conditions that require blood. I just assumed Watchtower had all the answers, and doctors used blood transfusions because they were not aware of the benefits of not using blood. Or they were careless surgeons who could not perform a surgery without blood. But still, I figured Jehovah God would find a way to restore Tracy’s good health.
Thank goodness the hospital got a court order
I felt both anger and relief. But as I observed how obviously aware the elders were of the situation, nonchalantly accepting the reality of a court order, I was enraged. Why? The elders could have forewarned me, telling me that if push came to shove, Tracy would get the needed transfusion. But, no, they let it play out like it was theatre.
The turning point for Tracy was getting the transfusion. After that, she was given EPO shots, a Watchtower-approved blood product that acts as a catalyst to stimulate red cell production. Watchtower reports on this procedure in its blood brochure, but not how long it takes to work. The EPO treatment takes over a week to start working, sometimes longer. However, unless Tracy accepted a transfusion, the EPO shot was practically worthless, and it is not without its own risks.
My best guess in that 99% of all JWs believe there is some special alternative that the HLC can tell the doctors about to save the patient’s life in the event of blood loss or anemia. In reality, with the exception of preplanned surgery, there are few viable options to prevent loss of life in the event of blood loss caused by serious anemia or the sudden loss of massive amounts of blood, as can happen in a car accident or during childbirth.
Watchtower’s literature and videos inform JWs about the positives of bloodless surgery, but little to nothing is said about its limitations or risks. In fact, the blood brochure has not been updated since the 1980's, and it was useless for me during Tracy’s crisis.
There is the option of taking blood fractions, which is up to the conscience of each JW. But the fact is that fractions are worthless in many cases. Oddly enough, Watchtower permits very large fractions of blood like albumin and hemoglobin, but forbid the extremely tiny platelet that Tracy needed. Why? Does the Bible make this distinction about which parts of blood are acceptable for a Christian, and which parts are not? The answer, of course, is that it does not. It is an organizational policy that is enforced with a clear threat of severe sanction by the Watchtower and local congregation, and undue influence at its worst.
at the meeting last night, at the annoucments at end of meeting they said make sure u take your ped card.

Sfb...the one that has this on the back:
I have the rest of the form somewhere in my archives...too much stuff to wade through and find it right now. I will keep looking. The rest of the form (except for the additional UN wording) is almost exactly like the JW one.
I found this noblood card on a now defunct website that had been put up by the JW SABM crew - the site was called mybloodsite - you can access it through the wayback machine. The posting of the UN compliant noblood card coincided with the early years of the SABM when they were trying to establish bloodless surgery as the "worldwide golden standard of care"
*I found it! Waiting for wifibandit to do his magic...the document is two pages on pdf files
jehovah's witnesses post 'anti-gay' 'harness your habits' leaflet in north devon.
devon and cornwall police have said a leaflet posted through doors in north devon isn't a crime – despite it advising gay people to "control their urges".the leaflet, entitled "how to harness your habits", was distributed in north devon by jehovah's witnesses and contains an article asking "what does the bible say about homosexuality?
"in it, the religious group states that "rejecting homosexuality" is completely different to "rejecting people of a different skin colour" and says their views are the same as people who "view smoking as harmful and even repugnant".it also compares gay people to animals, but says "unlike animals, they can choose not to act on their impulses".the journal was contacted by a reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, who felt "belittled" by the leaflet.
You are right, cofty...the leaflet doesn't really qualify as "hate" literature.
It is just simply misleading. The JWs are guilty of spreading misleading information, that's all.
And, they aren't the only ones who think that homosexuality is "just a bad habit".
The Bible condemns a lot of behavior, such as wearing cloth made of differing fibers and silly things like that. But I don't see the JWs spreading literature around calling the wearing of mixed fibers a bad habit.

Heh...but do you have a copy of that elusive "United Nations compliant" noblood card?
