Okay, I HAVE to ask this: by WHAT means do the folks in the congregation where you serve THINK that you were appointed as an elder? Be careful, now. Think about this before you respond... because there's really only one answer. Which leads me to the next question:

What have YOU done to disspell that perception? Have you been HONEST with those poor folks and said, "Hey, look, Brother/Sister, I know you THINK I was appointed by (and we won't state the term, here - no need), but not only was I NOT... but I don't even BELIEVE in it/him. Heck, I don't even believe in..."

And you know where I'm going.

At least I am HONEST with folks about what I believe... and who I believe IN... and not lying to folks... and/or letting THEM believe otherwise... to their own detriment... to save my own hiney.

I'm telling you... I don't judge you, not one wit - to your own master you must stand or fall. But if you think I'm going to let you make the kinds of statements you make, while you're utterly deceiving people for YOUR own end... you really haven't learned a thing about me. Let me help you, then: you are absolutely mistaken. I will point to YOUR leaven... each and every time you try to tie that "yoke" around MY neck.

So, again, I really think you should remain silent on this particular matter. Because I don't think YOU can handle the TRUTH that will come out... if you don't.

Greetings, dear Benjie... peace to you, and my apologies to you if you find what you've read here a bit confusing. It was confusing to me, too. If it would to clear things up a little as to the purpose of the thread (the original intent), then perhaps you might go back and read from the beginning. You'll find that the topic takes some curious turns and twists, particularly as some take potshots at/attempt to slander me... but they do so in ignorance, truly. I respond to them as I do to try and get them to THINK, though, and not just jump in feet first, with their judgment gavels in hand. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work, but I've tried all the others ways and, in spite of the confusion, it seems to work best.

Anyway, welcome... and please don't let us rabble rowsers scare you off. There is a lot of good information on this board... for the believer as well as the non-believer... and truly nothing for you to fear. You may feel "nervous" but try and liken it to learning how to skate... at say, 40, after you've spent you entire life being prohibited from even touching skates, let along wearing a pair and trying them out.

Yes, NC... why? Why did YOU need to defend (sorry, that's not what you were doing... even though it was. Some TRUTH here, people!)? Michelle can't a double to the pitch SHE threw out there? Of course you didn't. You virtually always respond to things without having read or have any real/accurate knowledge of them. That was part of your WT elder training (sit in judgment of people who say the WT is in conflict with the Bible, then DF'ing them for it... when you have absolutely NO idea of your own as to what the Bible says at all... because YOU didn't bother to read it but took your "knowledge" from what a "group of bigoted men who systematically endeavor to throttle all Bible knowledge unless it comes from them" said it did... and things like that...)

Anyway, if you can't see that telling somebody who disagrees with you that they have a tiny mind is reprehensible then that is a pity.

Aguest, I don't say that you must allow bullying. Yet there are ways to handle insult without getting so personal.

I only personal when the indication is that someone wants to make it personal: okay, so that's what you honestly think of me/what I'm doing. Here is what I think of what you're doing... and why.

I've used the illustration of the shooting a squirrel with an elephant gun with you before. I think you take much milder insults as an excuse to come at a person full force.

it sounds like you go there and get the same atmosphere that you find in a church...but in the case of that forum it is reverence for all things "spiritual".

But for others, myself included, there certainly IS accountability "outside"... because our accountability is to Christ, who really is OUTSIDE the forum. I have told others he is not there (but they keep coming and "looking". It is as my Lord said, though, "Looking... they look in vain." Same with you... and addition to hearing: they (and you) hear... but in vain.
