I suggest you look up "Pax Romana" on wikipedia. It is not a great reference but it is free and easily available.

Regarding Noah: Let's remember the crowds of children, babies, pregnant women, teenagers, animals and men that were mercilessly drowned. If you are a young person, don't mistake this for a story of love and salvation. See it for what it is. A celebration of mass genocide.

You assume mercilessly. Given that my Lord went and preached to the spirits of these... and so all had a SECOND chance to put faith in him... I'd say mercy was served.

Regarding Lot's Daughters: Remember that the Righteous man Lot offered his daughters to a sex crazed crowd of men to 'do with as they pleased.' Imagine your father doing that.

Please... men do worse than that today, as do some women. Sometimes other men aren't even involved. Sometimes it's mom's boyfriend... and/or his friends. Don't try to make Lot out any worse than other men. No one's saying that what Lot offerred was right. It's just an account of what took place. And given what his daughters later did... sleeping with their own father... your obvious assumption that they were, well, pure as the driven snow seems ridiculous. Lot's daughters were saved because of Lot... not because of themselves. For all you know, they could have been Sodom skanks. If they were willing to get their father drunk and then sleep with him... EACH of them (not one or the other - ewwwwww!)... I don't suspect they were any kind of "princesses."

But they were saved while all the children in S&G were slaughtered.

Yep, much like folks like you and I sitting pretty... while men slaughter children in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Darfur, Rwanda, the Sudan, Libya, Egypt, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, etc., etc., etc. Now JAH had a reason, both as to the Flood... and as to Sodom. Could be. But then, that was several thousand years ago... and incest wasn't necessarily frowned upon in that area. The Law Covenant hadn't been written yet, so perhaps these girls didn't have the law on their hearts. Perhaps they were as depraved as the others in the city, perhaps they received their outlook from living IN that city. But here we are, several thousand years later... and... what? Man still engaging in incest. Indeed, in some cultures, incest and pedophilia are not only acceptable... but the norm. YOU think it's wrong. I think it's wrong. Not everyone thinks it's wrong, though. Men of 30 years are marrying girls between the ages of 8 and 11 in Yemen...

Wouldn't you/your children? Let's say you live in city state built on another man's land while that man's family was abroad. That man's descendants return to take possession of his land... but your rulers say, uh-uh, nope, we be here now. So the descendant's send out spies in order to see how to take the city ('cause that's the only way they're gonna get it back - ain't no "court" back then). You've heard of the prowess of these descendants... and you KNOW your fellow citizens are going down... and so, to preserve YOUR family... you help the descendants. Now, true, you're probably a traitor to your own people, but you look at your choices - as a live traitor... or a dead patriot - and think about your household.

What choice would YOU make? And how do YOU think your children will remember it? Thankful that they were spared? Or PO'd that you didn't tell those spies to get someplace and leave you and your family alone 'cause ya'll are loyal patriots and will go down with the town rather than help some wanna be conquerers, even though you've heard they're all that... but you ain't scared of them and don't think they're all that...?

So while you are young and your full life and options are laid out before you, ask some critical questions.

I ABSOLUTELY agree! Like what kinds of girls might Lot's daughters have been if their father was willing to let his guests sleep with them... and they later got him drunk and slept with HIM? Me? I would think, well, they most probably weren't virgins... certainly not inhibited sexually, so probably not shy/coy... were citizens of Sodom where apparently EVERYONE was pretty depraved... save one man... their father, a "righteous" man (but nothing is said about THEM being so - rather, HIS righteousness was imputed to them)...

I mean, I wouldn't necessarily concluded that they were untouched, pristeen, sweet, and innocent virgins. And I think assuming so is... well, an assumption and an erroneous one at that.

You are young, so there are many things you may not know. Before you settle, check it all out.

If you're speaking of me... you're in error because I didn't accomplish much. I was 3 and raised by very frightened parents (descendants of slaves, born and raised in the cotton country of Virginia) during late 50's/early 60's. Anything that LOOKED like an "accomplishment" was stifled due to fear of being thought "uppity." So whatever someone like me would have TRIED to accomplish was quickly discouraged. I don't resent it, though, because I understand it. Volatile, even dangerous times...

Sorry for that and peace to you, dear RoosterMan! Hazards of being raised by JW parents. Different hazards being raised by parents whose parents were cotton and tobacco sharecroppers. My ancestors started a church so belief was encouraged; however, I was raised by my father, the son of a Baptist minister (who abhorred religion as a result), so... I got a taste of both "worlds." Belief, disbelief, religion, no religion wasn't a major part of my parents involvement in my childhood. Concern about keeping me from getting lynched due to my outspokeness was.

And I'm not exaggerating - my parents were from a place where such occurred. Which is why they jumped at the chance to move to California. Cali had its issues back then, too, though (hence, Watts riots)... and so the fear they thought they could leave came with them.

I have been not even opening her threads after she said she was just passing by JWN, then decided to stay.

And so you've changed your mind? Dang. Thought I had one less usual suspect to deal with. If only that dream had come true...

I open this one and find such an incredible story of how God (or the Lord or whoever) could warn her of injury, yet the information was no good- she still was injured. Cruel God.

Ah, yes, well, I've posted that account before and so didn't so here again. As I shared then, he warned me... and I didn't listen. I didn't believe the little girl was mean. She was, though, and so, I got cut.

FAITH in Christ... as the Son of God... as displayed by Peter whose put faith in that truth NOT because he heard it from man, but because he heard it from the Most Holy One of Israel himself... is what my Lord is building his temple... church... ON.

But wait... since you think I make stuff up, don't take MY word for it - take Paul's, Peter's, and John's:

"They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ." 1 Corinthians 10:3, 4

All one need do is look at the temple built by Solomon to what's being built.

Ummmm... a couple of errors here, BOTR. First, it wasn't silly until you painted yourself into the corner. Second, college grads don't routinely know these things. Third, I am a college grad. Spent all my first four years on the Dean's list... and I have a JD. Like you.

I try to focus on big ideas, important concepts.

Yes, I know. Big ideas and important concepts Like the Roman Pax being in such control that there was peace in Jerusalem... and no Jews who knew how to use a sword... at the time in question. Even though the historical record is that the Roman were in Jerusalem due to the LACK of peace there... and Jews absolutely knew how to use swords... so much so that much of their history includes records of their various conquests BY the sword. So MANY conquests... that the prophesy is that they would beat their swords into plowshares... and learn war no more. Interestingly, they didn't learn that until AFTER they were almost wiped out by the Romans. Masala didn't save them.

Well, I dunno about the world... but possibly some young folks (who've been misled to believe they had to be of a certain age in order to be called, used, chosen, etc. by God/Christ)... and maybe even their parents. It is NOT trite, at all, dear Char (peace to you, dear one!). In fact, I've commented here many times that I first time I remember having heard our Lord speak to me when I was 3 years old. Briefly, he told me that a playmate was going to harm me. And she did - she snatch a broken orange juice bottle from my hand, slicing my palm (pretty deep, too!). The WTBTS' position that the "anointed" are old people (well, their former position, apparently, given their new stance on GB members, at least one or two of whom are younger than me!)... was false from the start. JAH and Christ have ALWAYS spoken to, called, and used children. I offer the following, just to name a few:

Jacob (Israel), chosen before he was born
Moses, hidden when a baby, so as to be preserved alive for a future work
Samuel, dedicated to the temple when he was 3 and called when he was 5
Josiah, anointed as king when he was 8
Saul and David, anointed as kings when young men
Jeremiah, chosen before he was born, called as JAH's prophet at about age 17
Daniel, Hananiah, Azaraih, and Mischa'El (Shadrach, Meschach, and Abedniggo)... all protected and used by JAH as young boys
Cyrus, chosen before he was born
The young girl who told Naaman about Elijah
John the Baptizer, chosen before he was born, sent out at age 26-27
Christ himself, chosen before he was born, teaching at the temple at age 12, sent out at age 27
Several of the apostles, called before age 30

Christ even told his disciples to NOT stop the young children from coming to him! And as Peter reiterated, the promise is for us... AND OUR CHILDREN (Acts 2:39). Noah wasn't saved alone - his three sons... and their wives... were also saved. Lot's daughters were saved with him. Everyone in Rahab's house was saved... even the children. Where in the WORLD the WTBTS got that whole serving for many years FIRST thing... is beyond me! Well, the world, okay... But NO ONE served many years before being called/used, not even Moses. Sure, Moses spent many years in the wilderness... so as to get to know the terrain... but he wasn't serving while he was out there!

The big puzzle to me is just how I got caught up with those awful JW's; well, I do know, and it wasn't promises of life with pandas! LOL!

The same as for all of us who did, dear one: we are children of [the] Light... attracted to truth and light... and they call themselves "the truth"... and say they have "[new] light." It was almost a given... because we were yet babes. And as long as their heirs are babes, they can be under men in charge (pedagogues)... until the time the Father appointed beforehand... for them to come under and be taught by Him, by means of the One He appointed TO teach us. Some of us had to stay under those men longer than others. Some of us were spared and dodged the entire experience (wink at dear tec!).

That light is also deadly, however. I don't know if you've ever read the analogy our Lord gave us, but it's taken from the movie, "A Bug's Life." In that movie, two bugs are flying, travelling, and they come across a patio in the desert that has a pretty large bug light. It's on... and its "glow" mesmerizing. One bug become hypnotized and starts drifting toward the light. The other shouts, "Louie, Louie! DON'T LOOK AT THE LIGHT!" To which "Louie" sleepily responds, "I can't HELP it - it's so beautiful!" Well, his friend rescues him just as he was about to get zapped! The WTBTS... indeed religion... is just like that bug light, dear one: false lights, masquerading as THE Light (of which there is only One - Christ)... in an effort to draw... and "kill"... the children OF Light. They LOOK like the true light... especially from afar. But up close... they are deadly to us!

Anyway, yes, he is alive and with us. Reach out, and he is there, so much more than an idea, yes, Tec, though an idea too.

Wonderful, when you think of it, the Word of God, alive and active in that sense, through whom all things were created, Love in action, and alive and here now.

YES!!! He is alive... and speaks... and exerts power! He is not dead, not just sitting at the Father's right hand, but alive, acting... and working: he is subduing (teaching those who belong to him to pursue love, joy, PEACE, etc...!) while his enemies (Babylon the Great, her lovers - the kings of the earth, the false prophet, Gog, Magog... and death) still exist. Subduing... in the MIDST of his enemies! Until the time as GOD, the MOST Holy One of Israel... places them under his (Christ's) feet (Psalm 110:1, 2; 1 Corinthians 15:25, 26).

How cool is that?

Do not marvel that you heard/knew of our Lord as a very young child. We all did, all of mankind. It's when the "world" talks us out of it, convinces us that such "friend" is imaginary, that some of us lose this reality. Then... we forget. To listen to him, talk to him... and ultimately, all about him. Which is why Christ said we must "turn AROUND"... and become "AS YOUNG CHILDREN." Because the kingdom of the heavens belongs to suchlike ones.
