When I was in Jamaica, I was just out of on my own after my divorce. The men were all flirting with me and I was sooooo flattered after all those years to have some attention. One man definately had me almost melting towards his intentions but I was determined that I would be a 'good girl' and not get into trouble (although I did come back with hickies all up and down my neck.. lol).. but I did NOT go home with him from the resort.. or invite him to my room.. and when he tried to show me "how much" that he was proud of having, my conscience made my eyes turn away and say I couldn't look. Now I can just imagine a trip like that taken after JW life would be a different story. Well a trip like that and if I didn't have a bf..

I remember with my first husband when I left I went through all the things and made sure he had stuff (i.e., set of silverware for me, set for him) I wanted the silverware tray so I actually remember going out and buying him a new one before I took it. I gave him the house, canoes, left nearly all the furniture and split up everything from towels to dishes so he had everything he needed and I didn't want him to say that I took it all (llike my dad had said about my mom a hundred times).
Well he still told everyone that I took everything and left him with nothing.. When it comes to a breakup, you might as well take care of yourself, few get credit for being a nice "guy/girl".

Loaded words
by Odrade ini know this subject has been done before, but.... some words we used as jws have a different meaning to us, even now.
encourage, truth, witness, apostate, worldly... .
so how did those words get so loaded?
-

Definately they are programmed into us. I am trying to figure out myself what some of those words mean to me now. For a huge example, apostate. A friend recently questioned how I viewed the word now that I am out and I didn't realize until that moment that it didn't necessarily mean what I always thought it meant, if indeed I really didn't believe this organization was the only correct way to please God. I am to be honest, still milling around in my head what I think that word means.
I have to relate about a week ago my bf called me up and said something like "one of these days you have to sit down and explain to me about You People"... Well.. you know what my immediate reaction was.. You People meaning JW people. I have been called YOU people at the doors or elsewhere through the years. I have been trying to explain to him about JWs so he can understand why I left but more so, where I come from, because there are parts of our background that do make us "different' as much as after coming out we don't want to be. WELL he didn't mean that at all. He was totally referring to something else and it wasn't even derrogatory..
but there I was.. sucked right back into that mentality.. till I realized I didn't even know what he was talking about because I had gone off in my brain in the wrong direction.

Question for the gentlemen.....
by Surreptitious inwhat brand of laundry detergent do you like to use?

Wadaya mean laundry detergent? What's wrong with shampoo?
Actually sometimes I have dry cleanables that I have found if I handwash them with shampoo, they come out nicely without the need to dry clean. Depends of course on the item though.

I loved Jamaica. I think it was my favorite place. I really would like to fly up to Seattle and take a ferry up to Vancouver Island. I want to see the gardens in Victoria. I hear they are wonderful. I also think the ferry ride would be so relaxing and beautiful as you go through the mountainous areas.

Is bonding such a bad thing? Actually when the men went away hunting, sometimes the women have their own bond sessions (hunters wives and those of us who weren't but got invited any way) For my dad, it was going to the cabin with his buddies every year. Eventually half the guys didn't bother to get a license and hunt, but they went up there any way because it was their time to get away from the women and have a few drinks and relax. The guys that loved to hunt, went hunting and joined them at the cabin when they were done for the day. But it was their time away from it all and something they enjoyed every year. I can't remember one of them saying how exciting it was to see the life drain from the animal. I don't think they were heartless. And they did enjoy a steak on their table. None of the meat went wasted. What is the difference between slaughtering a cow and then cutting it up, and we pick up a steak at the grocery store. An animal still died for us to eat it.
I guess I can't explain to you about why the love for hunting because I don't hunt and so I will 'let this one go' and let one of the men who do enjoy it explain it to you. But I think like all things, we can each enjoy different things without being bad people. I have known a lot of men who hated dancing and just as many who loved it. How does a dancer explain to a non dancer why it is so fun? You are either interested in it or you aren't. You either enjoy sports or you don't. That is what makes the world, we are all different, all varieties. Life would be boring if we were robots and all enjoyed the same thing.

We almost wrecked, cause we were pulling a small Uhaul trailer.....Was that yall???
No Frannie it wasn't. We were in Wisconsin on a very minor highway near the Brule River. It was about 1 or 2 am and there wasn't another vehicle in site except us..
adrenaline rush of killing things is a sick hobby
Do you really think amac that the passion is for killing? I mean I know there are some that may have that, but all of my friends who have hunted, I have never gotten the impression from them that it is about the spirit of the kill. I kind of think it is unfair to judge them that way. Sorry. My opinion.
*********************************************************
I was thinking about this subject and it really depends on where you are from, what your attitude is. When I was in the midwest, you could count on all the men taking vacations around hunting season. It is a part of life there. When you marry a sports/gamesman, you know that is part of the deal and you respect it. I did date very shortly a 'brother' before getting married to my ex who lived, breathed and dreamt fishing, hunting, etc. He and all his brothers, that was their life. Now I LOVE to fish, dont' mind a guy that hunts, but I sure didn't want to be a wife of a man who was never home because of that passion. So, although I had a little fun with him, we didn't date long because I saw no long term future for us, other than friendship.
any way, when I moved and talked to people about hunting in a metropolis area, I could see they didn't get the hunting stuff either. It wasn't a part of their environment or what they were raised with any more than working on cars and if there was a noise in the engine, knowing what might be wrong with it. Everyone just brings it in the shop.. I dont' get that. I am used to men who have their chainsaws in the backyard and a boat and 4 wheeler next to the garage ready to be used at any time.
I really think it is about what you are raised around.

I sure don't remember all that with fond memories. It was always sooooo embarrasing to go to say a basketball game and stay sitting. Usually if I was the only JW and and with "shudder" worldly friends, I stood up any way but didn't put my hand on my heart or all that.. but I tried to appear to 'fit in' rather than STAND / er sit OUT. But if I was with JW friends, what you could you do? if they stayed sitting, you almost had to too.. I hated those moments.
