recently, my daughter (who was baptized at 15 she is 24 now and has since stopped attending meetings, has been in a relationsip with a man and now has a newborn baby) was invited to a witness wedding and subsequently uninvited b/c she could possibly stumble the jw's who would be attending,since she has had a baby with a non witness and is not married.. .

well I am surprised too they haven't dfd her.. I guess because she isn't going to meetings or attending any other JW events.. if she showed up at the wedding, they probably would be forced (their hand) to see about dfing her...

I know they have rules about who is supposed to be allowed to attend if the wedding is at the hall...

What Positive Things Have You Achieved Since Leaving?

purps' wonderful thread about love made me wonder about something else.

what have you achieved/become since leaving the organisation that proves there is a happy, successful life outside being a jehovah's witness?

for me, although it's only been a very short time, too short to achieve much, i count becoming: non-judgemental of my fellow man; a mum that can give her kids all the room to grow and blossom without fear of 'sinning' or being kicked out for bad behaviour; a person that can feel comfortable worshipping in a church or not, depending on whatever i feel like doing; someone who can love and give freely and celebrate life in all it's glory (i just love birthdays!

I have my children back in my life.. we were estranged for many years and it all hinged off me being a dub and them wanting nothing to do with the dubs... I've had them back 3 yrs.. and my dad back 4.. (he was offended about the dubs too).. so i got my dad back for 3 xmases before he passed this last May..

so glad I got him back before he died.. and my children back now

What Advice Would You Give A JW Thinking Of Leaving Or One Who's Left?

I'd recommend they read Crisis of Conscience... and also warm them of some of the issues they are going to be into from leaving, so they are mentally prepared..

and I'd welcome them to freedom outside the box

so what is it?

i say mine is english with an admixture of german (before the nazis ever existed, no need to go on about that) northern french and italian from venice.

i look northern european and feel close to that part of the world with family tradition being roman catholic.

I'm Scandanavien.. My father's parents were Finnish.. immigrated to the US when my grandmother was 13

My mothers parents were Swedish and Norwgian. They also come to the US as teens

Past few days have been very emotional for me ,when will it get better ?

since my mom passed in january my dad has wanted me to go through her things and clear out her bedroom.

i procrastinated long enough so the past two days i have been sorting through it all .

i feel like i have been punched in the gut .

I lost my dad in May and we haven't gone through his things yet.. not looking forward to it..

JW's at Holocaust Museum

i recently returned from a vacation to washington dc.

while there i went to the holocaust museum.

i was sitting in the lobby area waiting for my ticket time to enter the main exhibit and doing some people watching.
