I think it helped me have anger with the WTS but not god.. He shows through out the book that although the WTS wavered on all kinds of things, was inconsistant in their dealings with the brothers, the witch hunts they made on him, etc.it never changed his love for Jehovah (I use his name, because Ray did). He helped me see a division between the WTS and God.. that is was ok to still believe in God even though we were told lies by the WTS.. so although I have yet to find a path I trust.. I still have faith..

Reading " Crisis of Consience", What did you Learn, How did it affect you?
by flipper inthought this would be good to discuss for the newbies and others just getting out of the witnesses, so they can have their thinking and appetites whetted of things they never knew coming out from under the witness organizations spell.
i know for myself, after reading this book, it totally clarified what the reasons were for all the control in the organization.
and i was informed of things i never had a clue that were going on behind the bethel scenes.

What Things Would You Not Have Done As A JW That You Would Do Now?
by minimus inas witnesses, we were very concerned that we might offend somebody's conscience and our actions reflected that.
if someone might've been "stumbled" by our actions or speech, we would make sure we would do everything possible to not upset another fellow brother or sister.. i would not have gone to an "r" rated movie.
now, i go to any rated or unrated movie because i don't give a sh*t what smeone might feel over my choice.. what things are you free to do without worrying that someone might be disturbed over it?

I vote..
I go braless and do not care if my nipples are showing (as long as it isn't tacky)
I never even think about the rating of a movie..
I buy CDs even if they are rated with the Explicit, or Parental Advisory Label..
I look with slight interest to astrology...
Occasionally look at porn..
Celebrate all the holidays and my birthday...

what I dont' get is.. I know the WTS does not want them on the internet mixing in with us... when I was an active dub, I never would have entertained the thought of posting on a public board and MOST especially with apostates!

JW's are able to give gifts anytime, not just holidays, BUT DO THEY?
by OnTheWayOut inon a thread i started awhile back, the following was in the initial post:.
otherwise, the wife recently purchased some fancy gifts for her family members.
ready to send home, i asked her how her df'ed sibling would feel being left out.

Sassy - I love that "celebrate the beginning of our family".
I used to have theme parties for my kids; 50's, dinosaurs, whatever. All the kids did crafts, played games and got gifts. We had plenty of food including a special cake and ice cream.
oh this reminded me...
Once I had a party for the kids in the hall at Mcdonalds.. it was just like a birthday party except no birthday on the cake.. and no presents.. I had them all come and play the games, etc... Only did it one time though.. should have done it at least once a yr..

How many elders did this?
by Bumble Bee in5go had a thread here - the service overseer nearly cried from the podium that mentioned something i never realized, elders having to chip in from their own pockets to cover expenses.. how many elders here had to do that, and what was the average amount and frequency that you had to make up the shortfalls?.

I doubt the congregation I was in.. in Cali ever needed it, they always had a surplus of money..
now the congregations i was in in the midwest.. at least two of them which were very small.. I am very sure the elders pitched in when money was short.. I know for a fact my ex father in law used to at times.

when I was a dub and married, on our wedding anniversary we had gifts for all of the family. In many ways it was a replacement for Christmas.. I had tons of presents for the kids... We celebrated it as the beginning of our family
I heard comments from elders though that the WTS frowns on that though
