I went to the NYC/Yankee Stadium convention in July. I was 5 years old, so I don't remember much. My parents still have their Convention Report. I'll see if they'll let me borrow it.

I just stumped our PO!!!
by The Last Nephilim ini have never seen this guy stumped on a bible topic or point before, but history was made today!!!
he and a soon-to-be elder were doing a shepherding call on my wife and i because we've missed weeks worth of meetings and had no service time for dec. he went through the usual lectures about how we're cutting off jehovah by missing meetings (because we all know god won't lift a finger for those who don't go to meetings, right?
) he gave some good illustrations- the guy really is a good teacher, it's just what he's teaching that's questionable.

The Borg's version of this Scripture is as follows:Does Thomas’ exclamation at John 20:28 prove that Jesus is truly God? John 20:28 (RS) reads: “Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” There is no objection to referring to Jesus as “God,” if this is what Thomas had in mind. Such would be in harmony with Jesus’ own quotation from the Psalms in which powerful men, judges, were addressed as “gods.” (John 10:34, 35, RS; Ps. 82:1-6) Of course, Christ occupies a position far higher than such men. Because of the uniqueness of his position in relation to Jehovah, at John 1:18 (NW) Jesus is referred to as “the only-begotten god.” (See also Ro, By.) Isaiah 9:6 (RS) also prophetically describes Jesus as “Mighty God,” but not as the Almighty God. All of this is in harmony with Jesus’ being described as “a god,” or “divine,” at John 1:1 (NW, AT). The context helps us to draw the right conclusion from this. Shortly before Jesus’ death, Thomas had heard Jesus’ prayer in which he addressed his Father as “the only true God.” (John 17:3, RS) After Jesus’ resurrection Jesus had sent a message to his apostles, including Thomas, in which he had said: “I am ascending . . . to my God and your God.” (John 20:17, RS) After recording what Thomas said when he actually saw and touched the resurrected Christ, the apostle John stated: “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31, RS) So, if anyone has concluded from Thomas’ exclamation that Jesus is himself “the only true God” or that Jesus is a Trinitarian “God the Son,” he needs to look again at what Jesus himself said (vs. 17) and at the conclusion that is clearly stated by the apostle John (vs. 31). I'm pretty sure the PO check his "Reasoning" book right after your conversation.

I was baptized shortly after my 14th birthday after giving all the right answers to questions from the "Lamp" book. Made a Literature room servant at 17 and DA'ed myself at 19.

Gringa, it would probably be better to sell them separately on Ebay.More money is paid for the books , booklets and magazines from C.T.Russell's era.Values go lower from the J.F.Rutherford's era to today. If you have any question drop me a email. Investigator74

Possible scene for book. Opinions needed: DEATH OF PASTOR RUSSELL
by Terry inpastor russell lay dying.. outside the sleeper car pampas, texas flatland spun by like a charabanc ride.. fits of shivering and cramps wrenched his gut throughout the long night.
the cup of hot tea at bedtime had soothed and left him drowsy.
later, cramps took hold and wrung him out.. his spectacles lay carefully folded beside his bible like a dead spider.

Here is some infor: HIS DYING HOURS A few weeks ago he started on a trip to the Pacific Coast. preaching every evening, and traveling throughout the remainder of the night and of the day. His last sermon he preached to the Congregation at Los Angeles; and being too weak to stand, he sat throughout the discourse. He left Los Angeles Sunday evening on his return to Brooklyn, and rapidly grew weaker. Seven hours before his death, addressing his traveling companion, Brother Menta Sturgeon, he said, "Make me a Roman toga." Using the bed sheets, Brother Sturgeon made a toga, which Brother Russell put on himself. He stood erect for a moment, and then lying down on the couch in his Pullman drawing room, closed his eyes, thus in symbolic language speaking of death. A great deal of the Bible is written in symbolic language, ,and it was quite appropriate that he should speak his last message in symbols. It is interesting here to know what a Roman toga symbolizes: Augustus’ Poet Laureate, said, "It is by the toga that the royal nation is recognized." The word toga means ,a covering garment (white robe). It was the official robe of higher magistrates, priests and of persons discharging vows, and was worn on special occasions, such as celebrating a triumph. We are reminded of the last experiences of the Apostle Paul, who traveled with his beloved companion Timothy, whom he called his son--not a natural son, but, as St. Paul shared, he had begotten this young man in the spirit. Likewise Pastor Russell begot Brother Sturgeon in the spirit, in that he brought Brother Sturgeon to a knowledge of the divine plan. Shortly before St. Paul’s death he wrote, "I am near ready to be offered up, and the time of my departure is at hand; I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:6-8) Our dear Brother Russell not only loved the appearing of the Lord Jesus, but above all men on the earth he declared the presence of the Master. Brother Russell was a very modest man and never exalted himself. It was exceedingly difficult to get him to speak of himself. He chose, therefore, a symbol which we could afterwards interpret to speak practically the same thing spoken by the Apostle Paul. By wearing the toga Brother Russell in effect said, "I have fought the good fight; I have triumphed and shall be received as a member of the royal family of heaven." Well done!!! BTW have you heard anything from your families yet?? I'm seeing witnesses around my neighborhood every other week now, but I believe my house has been marked as a do - not- call. Not to long ago the local congregation elders came to my house(believing my Father/Elder sent them), but I set them straight on where I stand with the WTS. I don't live far from the Wallkill,NY farm where they are still expanding their operation, as I read in the local paper last week.A large majority of my family are JWs , but I stay in contact with a few of them. WTS stuff never comes up in our conversations. Live your lives and make up for the time you were in the Borg(as if you can)lol, and again congratulation to the both of you!! Researcher

and so it goes...
by metaspy inthis morning i started this topic: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/147355/1.ashx.
now i shall post the follow-up.. as i predicted, my mom would come with elders in tow to have a conversation.. actually, she threw me for a loop at first.
no elders with her.. she had them wait a half an hour then she let them in.. thus i couldn't reject the whole lot of them at the door, she was their way in.. secondly, she brought the elders from the nearby hall, not the ones who know me.. the whole time i thought she would go for someone who she knows can dominate my thinking, but instead she went with the unknown.. .
