Somewhere in the middle: Not Christian, Not Atheist
by darkuncle29 inso, what about those of us in the middle?
who identify as neither xian or atheist?
can either side accept/tolerate the middle?

We don't have words describing people who don't believe in Santa, no a-santaists. If we don't believe in alchemy, we're not a-alchemists. Not believing in ghosts doesn't make someone a-ghostist. It's just a state of being that doesn't require a name. It says nothing about a person's worldview, other than they don't believe in those things. Atheism has its name because there are many who believe in a god.
Ok, that is a good way of getting it through to me. That would be kinda sick though, people who don't believe in Santa convincing little kids that he's real...what if the Pope is Atheist? Really, thanks though, that does make more sense.
Some atheists think spirituality in any form is to be rejected as hocus-pocus.
Other atheists take spirituality very seriously.
So even Atheists can't get along? j/k I'm glad that the latter kind can exist, but isn't that a very tight rope to walk, sort of like being a gay republican? All joking aside, I respect that position, but wonder what must go through your mind when a non spiritual atheist poo-poos the idea of anything hocusy pocusy?
What if we find out that atheist's and theist's were both right?
That would be SO funny.
OK, so here's my take. When I see Atheists and believers duking it out, I'm just going to stay out of the fray, as I have my questions answered good enough for me. Thanks people for your thoughts.

I find myself closer to the middle of the continuum myself. I find Xian principles compelling as life advise [for the most part], but am currently more inclined to the spiritual side of the eastern faiths. Not long ago I was on record as a Christian. I have partially withdrawn that position now - I just can't accept much of the Bible as 'inspired', though it is inspiring in parts to me.
I can't see myself jumping into the atheist camp at the moment - and agnostic does not really describe me. My epiphanic moments are coming closer and closer together now - so in a year - who knows? I just love life and try and understand it for the moment.
Jeff
Thats sort of where I'm at.

To clarify, I'm talking about the line between Atheists and Xian/Jewish/Islam. I'm not talking about Shiva or Odin or Quezoctlshghqw.
Atheism isn't a belief system
Isn't it "disbelief" in what ever deity you're the polar opposite of believing? So getting past the word "belief", what is atheism? Is it your worldview? Personal philosophy? Semantically it shouldn't matter what you call it, it is what it is, your belief.
I see myself as more Taoist, but obviously not since I can't leave well enought alone, but am open to paganism and shamanism. If I had to stay closer to western view I'd say I'm close to being a Deist. Is that another term for Agnostic?

My family is all in Eastern Washington, the desert part. I'm over by Seattle about 2 /12-3 hours away. So I'm not going there this thursday. I'm going to T-day with some other ex JW friends of mine, both me and my partner. We're all going to the home of another gay couple--friends of my friends, people I haven't met yet.
When I was still a JW but fading, I worked at Fred Meyer. So I'd see the sales and get groceries, and mom would cook a turkey dinner, we just didn't do it ON T day. Then we'd either drive up to Snoqualmie pass and play in the snow, adults dogs and kids, or go see a movie. I miss being close to family for the simple things.

So, what about those of us in the middle? Who identify as neither Xian or Atheist? Can either side accept/tolerate the middle? Who's in the middle, good question.
I think Agnostics might be more towards the middle, but I can't really say as I'm not agnostic. (I think?)
Who else may be considered middle? Pagans, Wicans, Buddhists, Taoists, shamans, ect.
I once allowed myself to stay in the JW religion because I was afraid. Afraid of the world, afraid of being gay, afraid my family would throw me out. None of those fears have any foundation anymore. I don't need to know or have a belief system that is absolute anymore; be it theism or a-theism. I'm content being in the middle, where I can be flexible and adapt. Is that not evolution of sorts?

JF Rutherford: Do Ya Think He Liked Attention??? (duh)
by Open mind inwell this week's book study wraps up the seventh trumpet blast of revelation.
there was even a nice neat box showing how they all were "highlighted" by something the dubs did in the 1920's.
almost all the blasts were some dry-as-toast, "look at me" speech given by jf rutherford at various conventions.

I remember sitting through the Climax (oxy moron that!) book for the third time, and thinking about JR how he'd "Fullfill prophecy", that it was lame, like a high school pep rally. I was stuck by peer pressure and family, otherwise I could have been out early 20's...damn damn damn.

Opinion peice on Athiests
by SickofLies inthere seems to be a lot of hostility on the board toward atheists still and a lot of comments floating around like atheists are to preachy.
well i want to take a quick minute and deal with some of these issues.
to begin with, to make any statement regarding atheists in general would be false for several reasons.

The God Delusion, is that written by that Dawkins guy? I'm terrible with names, but if it is, I find him very off putting. It might not be Kool-Aid, but it tastes like Crystal light. I do not trust him, he is too extreme and absolute.
I agree with most of what you guys say about organized religion, the track record is lethal and terrible. But the track record of purely atheist societies isn't that great either: Lenin & Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot(I don't know what his belief or non-belief system was). The point I'm trying to get to--yes, badly--is that belief doesn't matter, people will still do very nasty sh__ty things to others and say they did for god or for the common good. Humanism I think starts out fine, but when you add people to the mix, then you've got to be carefull. Science, is not all encompassing. At any given moment, only a percentage of our world-universe is understood. Science changes by adding new understanding, understanding that a few decades before may have been opposite what science then was curently teaching.
edited: Sick of lies, I didn't mean for that comment to be so bad, I should have found a betterway to say that, I truly meant no offense.

by Sassy inwell.. its only days away from when i begin all my christmas decorating... and i just found this brilliant (in my opinion) idea for decorating.... .
it can be found here: http://www.amazing-christmas-ideas.com/christmas-tree-decorating-birds-beads.html.
