Is there anything we can do to "Lower Gas Prices"?
by JH in.
every now and then i get an email saying that we should all boycott a certain garage and not buy gas there anymore, and that it would eventually force that garage to lower the gas price and then we would all benefit from this.. i had another power point presentation this morning and they say to boycott petro canada and shell.. now gas is $1.16 a litre in montreal, and should go up to $1.42 a litre this winter they say in this email.. so, my question is, do you think that we as consumers can make the gas prices come down, and if yes, how?

I've thought of getting a group organized with:
1. A farmer who can grow corn.
2. A machine to process the oil into diesel.
3. The group then buys the fuel from the farmer directly, without interference from the state or energy corps.
I think any way that people can develope their own self sufficient ways and means to bypass "the system" would help.

Gay ex-JW Members: do you exclude?
by RAYZORBLADE innon-gay members of this forum, have probably discovered some interesting behaviour here on this site.. me too.. with in the confines of specifics (if such a term even exists), how many folks here who are gay or identified in some way with that term, can say outright: "i am gay/homosexual" without guilt, embarrassment or shame, post-jw?.
i joined this site almost three years ago.
i do not post often, but i am still around from time to time.. gay people.

I reread your questions. I think that with a specific group, that when there is the idea that "we should" have solidarity or what ever, that it is like a false sense of intimacy, it feels to me as forced and ingenuine, and THAT is one of the things that made my hair always prickle while a JW.
As for the gay and not guilt thing, I think I am there, but I feel stuck, or even suspended in the middle of the transition. And that frustrates me. Everything important to my life I learned before or in kindergarten, well, I feel like I'm missing some important "modules".
Later peoples.

Hi RAYZ. Cute avatar.
I think I may be having one of my Special Ed moments, as I don't understand the nature of your question or how to answer it.
IF you mean "Do I stick with, stand up for a gay or lesbian..." just becuase they are gay or lesbian. Then I'd say NO, but I think I'd need to observe myself in action there. I tend to take things on an individual basis when dealing with people (of any group loyalty) or even dogs and cats. I cant stand some individuals, I love some others, and the majority I just deal with as the situation demands.
Got to run, school starts in an hour.

The Asleep! magazine once had Dinosaurs for the cover topic in the late 80's or early 90's. Basically they magiced it away with the "noone knows how long the creative days were" spiel.

God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God God...
Why do people always try and blame her for stuff?
I just wish that humans would get used to the idea that we are a part of the natural order of this planet and that storms and volcanos are not evil, mean, bad things out to get us. If a lady bug gets caught in a lawn mower, does he pray to his god--Je-Bug-Wah--to forgive him for his error? If a zebra is chased by a lion does she pray to Je-Kwan-Zah-La to save her ass?
I would be dissapointed if I died tomorrow if Mt Ranier blew it's lava load, but I wouldn't think it was evil or mean.

Were You Appalled When You First Saw "Life Of Brian"?
by Englishman inthere was so much hoo-hah prior to the films release, that i became ever determined to see it as soon as it hit town!.
the church leaders were up in arms about it, mary whitehouse became almost apoplectic, it was almost the end of civilisation as we knew it!.
well, we duly toddled off to see it.

I own the DVD. I've been wanting to whatch it again, but only when I can crank the volume as the dialouge seems a bit soft...its just not the same in subtitles.
Wasn't there a rumor going around that this film was going to be re-released into theaters around the time of The Passion? I wish that that had been the case.

Christianity on the threat of DEATH..
by GetBusyLiving inif someone held a gun to your head and threatened to blow your brains out unless you worshiped jesus and went to church, which christian church would you choose?
no pansy churches like the unitarians though.
it has to be a fundamentalist denomination.

I'd be tempted to say something like "Fork you and your Gawd!", but then, I also like being subversive, so I might just go and look for others who were just consuming 02 and try and....
Sorry, it's the sinus infection talking.

How much science we take on "faith"
by Big Dog inno real point here, just a funny thought popped in my head as i was reading yet another thread where people were being hammered with scientific facts and theories and i was nodding my head agreeing with the rational fact based explination when a thought occured to me: i take quite a bit of science on "faith".. what i mean is this, when i am reading the explination of particle physics, quantum mechanics, or molecular biology i have to take it on faith as i can't do the mathematical proofs and so on to verify what i am being told and i assume that is the case with most of us non-rocket scientists, and probably even many in the fields of science and technology.
i like science, i enjoy reading discovery magazine and trying to keep up on the latest techno advancements, but i realized how much of it i take on "faith" as i have no way to verify or disprove what i am being told by a scientist.
i recall einstein saying once that something like 6 people in the world truly understood the implications of his work.. so if you want to argue "faith", i'd say that many that believe in science have just as much faith as those that believe in religion.

Whispers at Big Dog, " Shhhh, at best, you'll upset the potatoe people; at worst, you'll drop the test tube and spill the goo."
I laugh because I have discussed this ad nauseum. I like discussing ideas, especially ones as heretical as this. PM me if you want to talk about this.

Camping without Jehovah's blessing
by Nosferatu inas of late, i've been busy copying some of my old reel to reel tapes to digital format (for those who know me better, these are my canned peaches masters).
once i'm done copying the stuff i want, i'll go through the other tracks and see if there's anything interesting i've either partially taped over, or recorded on the other side (i only used one side of a reel to reel tape).
i just found something that brought some jw memories flooding back.. when i was a teenager, i almost always had a cassette in the tape deck, ready to record anything that was either interesting, special, and even degrading.
