he was so excited about moving to maui, and starting a new life here.

How sad, I regret that I hadn't met him yet.
does anyone know if an hobituary has been run in his old home town, one that would have spoke for him and his current beliefs?

Do you support gay marriage?
by chappy inis your belief moral, social or practical?
would you feel the same way if there were absolutely no religious influence on the matter pro or con?.
regardless of your belief, does every adult have a fundimental right to marry anyone of his or her choosing, regardless of gender?.

All of the civil rights that a marriage has can be given to a homosexual couple also.
A well written will can not be overroade by family connections. It provides all the rights to property that a marriage does and more.
A power of attorney will give you rights just like a wife or husband has in many situations.
A living will gives the partner all the rights needed in medical situations to the partner.
Why go through the trouble of all that, it'd be easier to just get married.
So, could a legal fast track be made for individuals wanting to establish all of the above, that isn't called marriage--because what things are called is so important in our society--and that would cost about the same as say, maybe a marriage liscense?
...I'm not holding my breath.

Yes.Yes.
Let's clarify, that marriage is between TWO-2 people who want to be maried to each other. I'm not argueing marriage as it is in India or other parts of the world, they are beyond my scope. If they want to change how marriage is in there country/culture, that is their job, not mine.
Against gay marriage? Fine, then don't marry one! You will not be forced to marry one of us. I certainly don't want to be forced to marry a woman.
As for "people wanting to marry their dogs." that's just asinine, no sane normal human would want to marry their dog. It might be tried just to bring that up, but then again, dogs aren't legal citizens nor do they have rights recognized as being HUMAN. If I wanted to leave my worldy possesions to my dog, I'd have to create a trust, and have that dog and possibly its decendants placed under the care of that trust. So in name I'd be leaving my house to Buddy, but in legal fact, I'd be leaving it to my trust, and the stipulation would be that Buddy and Lucy get to live in my home after I'm gone and that the trust would take care of them. (I'm not a legal professional, so any help or clarification would be welcomed in this chain of thought)
Why not just for a few minutes, set your own view aside, and try, just try to undeerstand why gays and lesbains would want or think they need this?
Go through the past five or so years of your life. Write down the important things that happened to you or your spouse; such as hospital time and health care, buying or selling property, financial, any legal issue, travel to foreign countries. Now imagine that doing these things is made more cumbersome or impossible because you are not married to your spouse. If you are not married, your "girl friend", may be able to legally wiggle in on some of those, but not if she were your "boy friend". Personally, I don't want "Marriage" as its pretty f@&k3d up and you straight people can keep it. The argument that marriage is sacred in some way, is so stupid. Is it a sacred, religious institution? or is it a Legal relationship? The point is here, that gay people didn't screw it up for you all, you did that to yourselves. I'd rather make up no label for what I want, that is to live with the man I love, be left alone, and when we are gone, to leave this place better than it was when we arrived.

Part 1: How Would You Answer This Issue?
by Amazing1914 inpart 1:
when we were faced with tough issues as jws, we used one or more of a few ways to find answers.
we either searched the publications, consulted with an elder, or in some cases, wrote to the society.

I think that even as a Jw, my mind would have been trying to find a way to allow me to reconcile what I was told to believe and what I felt would have been more practical. I think that getting an abotion in this situ would be the kind thing for all involved. I'm curious as to how the hindu beliefs of Karma and rebirth would have been dealt with here.

Ouija boards
by m. kirov innow that you are out of a totalitarian cult, would you or have you played with a ouija board?
tarot cards?
my little sister has expiremented recently.

Oiu Ja Boards can lead to an unshielded form of channeling with no safeguards. For all I know or care it could be channeling unconscious parts of the self; I would recomend avoiding their use, especially with people who are using it as a game or disrespectfully behaving, drinking, drugging, ect.
Tarot cards, well there are some things that we just really don't need to know. If knowing is SO important, then one should be prepared for the consequences of knowing.
I've had people read cards for me, and it was interesting, but it only confirmed for me what I already knew.
As for debunkers, I'm happy for them, as there really is alot of crappy fake New Age shit out there, but my approach is to take everything on its own worth and if its shite then its shite, if not then hmm.

If it was legal, would you have more then one spouse?
by free2beme inoften what we accept in society, is based on how and where we were raised.
for example, in some countries it is okay to have more then one spouse and arranged marriages are how you marry.
often we take these examples, and others that happen elsewhere, and label them as just wrong.

My first response was going to be "NO!".
But then I saw this...
but i have nothing against f*ck buddies.
...and I started thinking...mmmmaybe. A full on permanent three way (three guys) would depend alot on the individuals, I think it could work given a perfect scenario.
I don't think I'd want the headache of all that. I could not be the third leg-so to speak, but if I were one of the two in the "primary" relationship, and if communication was very explicit and clear, then I would be open to negotiating a third to join. I'm not jealous or emotionally needy/clingy.
I think it could work with the right people.
It's funny how I can contradict myself.

Are you willing to lesson to negative info about your religion, now?
by free2beme inoften when i speak with people about religion, they are christians.
i will get into discussions and mention items of truth about their history and ask them what they think of it.
more so then not, they have canned answers of "that is only part of the story" or "the person who said that was not a christian.

In any sense, are you willing to listen to what others say about your religion and to research information that may destroy your faith.
Yes, I'm usually willing to engage in conversation that is honest and open; if I get a whiff of Kool-Aid I'm done.

Monothesism is the probelm
by silentWatcher ini saw this article on the web, link below, and the basic premise made me wonder: is there some basic "end-of-the-world" mentality inherient in monotheism?
and why is it that both christians and muslims with these warped views are coming to power at the same time.
scary stuff.

Whether its true or not, some have speculated that Moses and Akenaten were one and the same, but I think there might be some time line issues.
I think that in the big sceme of things, monotheism-the rigid dogmatic legalistic versions anyway-have got to go. It should be left behind for the foul turd that it is.

Hey Tetra, do you remember that old Far Side cartoon about "Ways Nature Says 'Stay Away' "?
The first frame was a puffer fish, the second frame was something similiar, but the third frame was a guy on the side walk in a city who was very obviously insane and anti-social; wearing rubber boots, a pool toy, a goofy hat, and carrying a bazooka.
Your post just reminded me of that.
"Back away nice and slow."
