Sad news from Maui

We went to our favorite beach, met up with some of our local friends. We don't have much in the way of details - but heard some devasting news that Ari (well known to Seattle area exJW's and I am sure by many on the board) killed himself sometime over last weekend.

He was so excited about moving to Maui, and starting a new life here. We moved here about a year after he did and ran into each other regularly at Little Beach, Makena. We both exclaimed many times - we are free of the cult, enjoying paradise NOW!

He made so many friends and acquaintances here. Some of our mutual friends talked to him at length last Saturday. He seemed depressed they said, but was working through things. He had some financial problems, and although I cannot confirm, they thought he had just broken up with his girlfriend.

Will try and post more details when we find out more. A lot of us that knew him are getting together this Sunday to hold a simple memorial, and see what needs to be done to send personal items to his family (ex-wife and 3 daughters?) in Spokane.

Many of us here have been through this before with family and friends. I trust he is at peace now.

Always sad to hear of someone overwhelmed permanently by their sadness. I didn't know him but I have lost friends this way.

Thanks Blondie - we met him about 2 years ago at an "apostafest" in Seattle.

On Sundays at Little Beach, there is a quite a crowd of people that get together, play drums, congas, flutes, fire jugglers - a mini Woodstock kind of thing. He had bought a beautiful tribal drum, and was a regular. So many people knew him and liked him. Just really hard to understand.

Just got off the phone with Sabine........I am besides myself....so is NOdenial.......

Last I heard from him was 2 weeks ago on MSN and he was happy and in "love"......

I feel so bad for him......NOdenial and I will miss him.

Didn't know the guy but sorry to hear about it. You rarely do ever know completely what is going on in someone else's head. At least he did have some good times. The only thing I do know is that he is at peace now as was said.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I met Ari on two occasions and enjoyed his wit and good nature. I didn't know him well, but I will miss him.
