What's the mechanism?
by Half banana ini am perpetually challenged by the fact that most jws are completely duped by the propaganda pumped out relentlessly by the borg.
even intelligent ones; they unwittingly grovel to the gb decisions and follow the party line.
they do this for a number of reasons..

The spent cost fallacy also was mentioned in another thread and that has a big pull on people as well. Also the (false) lure of paradise and seemingly happy perfection is also quite hypnotizing, especially when you are really down and out. -

Why are we so hard on JW's??

@ Flipper I agree about the molestation and child abuse problems within the organization. It is definitely encouraged by the overall structure of the organization which is why I made such a broad statement regarding their issues in leadership and structure. The child abuse and pedophilia problems are certainly a cause for great concern. -

@ James Mixon
I completely understand. I have parents in as well as an elderly grandmother who breaks down in tears if I call her saying she is "scared they (the elders) will find out" before hanging up on me. How crazy is that? So I get it completely. I have children who ponder why she acts that way and how do you explain such craziness to children whom we teach from DAY 1 that their family is who they should love unconditionally as a gift from God?

I think there are definitely some harsh things said by some people but it reflects their experience within the organization. I think you are correct in that many of the members of the JW world are good people or at least try to be and they are simply misguided in following some of their beliefs such as disfellowshipping, etc. But the hurt and trauma and confusion caused by the overall organization under the guidance of imperfect men (ie the GB) who refuse to admit they are imperfect (and that their "prophesies" are just a thinly disguised tactic at fear-mongering) further compounds the situation. You have to realize that just like people who may've been abused or mistreated, trusting anyone is hard and to have a forum where they can safely vent their concerns, experiences and such is exactly what they need to help their healing process. I always say if you don't like it, don't read it. I have been out for over 10 years but just recently got turned on to this site and it has helped me tremendously so while someone who has never had a negative experience with the JWs may be turned off by the site, for those in shoes like mine, it can be extremely helpful and also provide a resource to know what's going on within the organization (due to having family members still in, etc) without having to be a part of it. I hope that sort of explains things a little bit. -

HOW EXACTLY does god communicate with or direct the GB?
by stuckinarut2 inwe're all familiar with the organisations claims (and have seen the flow diagrams in books and mags) that the gb is "directed by god".
in turn, the local elders are "directed by god".
so, how exactly do they suppose this happens?

You mean Jehovah doesn't directly talk to them?

Congrats and I truly understand your fear and I deeply respect you for taking an open and honest look at the cult/religion. Though I have been out for 10 years, certain fears still resonate with me such as what if I am seen Xmas shopping or taking a toke on a cigarette outside of a restaurant and word gets back to my parents or their associates in the congregation (I was a born in as is my mother, and my father converted when he was in high school). I even delete this website from my history in case my computer messes up (one of my dad's professional skills is fixing computers and he has had to work with my computers to update the anti-virus software and such). I know it was a blow to realize TTATT but you are better for it. I read Crisis myself and it completely opened my eyes. Even though I had been out for YEARS, I was still DEVASTATED to discover that the thoughts that had quietly lurked in my heart and mind all this time had valid roots. But it also freed me from the fear of Armageddon coming in and tearing me from my parents simply because a group of men decided I was not meant to be in their "religion" with no regard to the multiple appeals and letters I wrote (alone, pregnant and scared). Now my life feels better and though I still have fears, no longer am I trapped because I don't buy into that group's thinking and for once I am actually enjoying my life with my husband and our children. It gets easier and you will begin to feel better once you live your life free of their false doctrines. -

JW making music videos now?
by adjusted knowledge ini'm not sure if this is new since it is hard to keep up with the ever changing jw.
it is morphing so much.
i went to jw.org tv video for november and around 53 or 54 minutes into the broadcast the gb guy introduce a music video called "we won't forget you".
