what I have found is that there is no truth, just points of view. It's okay to live life admitting there are some things I will never know the answer to, or 'the truth' about.

What is your purpose or what do you wish to accomplish while a member of this board?
by Tenacious inwhen i joined this forum i was seeking more people who felt the same way i did in terms of seeing the jehovah's witness organization for what it truly was; a false prophet.. once i found like-minded members i slowly started to open up and participate more in trying to help others that were also exiting mentally and physically.
today, i offer support to anyone who desires it regardless of what they believe or not believe.. so what is your purpose on this board?.

Not to question the brother's off the cuff comments regarding the text reading at the field service meeting. She was an elder's wife but couldn't have children, which somehow gave her license to criticize me endlessly. She did take me out once to show me how her office cleaning night job was done. So I could pioneer and support myself and hate my life, yay! One of the truly sad individuals I grew up around. -

One Sunday I wore a button down shirt and men's tie over a skirt. I was pulled aside very quickly and was told it was not appropriate attire for a sister. -

Elder who happens to be a doctor and his anointed wife have an adult son who's married to a pretty young sister and the couple have a young child. Before long, the anointed wife is off to her heavenly reward and the son is disfellowshipped. Must have been for fornication, because wouldn't you know, the pretty young sister divorces the disfellowshipped son and marries the doctor elder (grand)dad. The child is a prominent part of the wedding ceremony.
And you thought you had daddy issues.

Movies/Books for Cult Survivors
by Brighid infor me, there have always been special movies or scenes in movies that trigger my old jw experience (fiddler on the roof and little mermaid touched me deeply when i watched them as a young jw).
later as a survivor, it was more donnie darko, thx 1138 themes that struck me in particular.. anyway, looking for suggestions on great movies, books (art of any kind, really) that especially speak to or move you as a jw survivor?
there are reasons beyond purely entertainment that i ask..

Totally agree with you on Donnie Darko. Love the whole movie, but the scene that makes me cry every time is the shot of Momma Darko while 'Mad World' plays. That's what a mom's love is supposed to be. -

It creates a permanent record, which is reason enough. It will also make finding of fact based on the evidence, as well as recommendations for improvement. While the recommendations will likely not be mandatory, they will set a standard of best practices. -

Grandchildren pay for the sins of their parents.
by Bonsai inmy wife's mother just related to us an interview she heard during the recent three day convention that she just had to share with us.
a brother and his wife have, for over 20 years, shunned their daughter because she ran off and eloped with a worldly guy.
while openly sobbing, he related how difficult it has been to shun his daughter and avoid unnecessary contact with her and her family.

My history with my dad is very similar to yours. I left at 18 to go to college an hour away from my home town and congregation. If you decide you cannot remain a witness, think seriously about moving to another town. You deserve to give yourself the opportunity to live life for a while as a non-witness and see how it feels. You can always go back to them.
