I agree with everyone, don't speak to the Elders. We faded 4 plus years ago and have not met with one Elder. They try but we don't bite. If they come to the door, we don't answer, if they call, we don't call back. If we bump into them we act happier than we ever have been (we are) and if they ask intrusive questions don't be afraid to tell them politely that you don't feel the need to discuss that with them. If they offer to call or come by just respond, "I am doing fine and if I feel the need to have you call or visit, I have your contact info." Like someone said above, they only have the power over you that you give them. The less you speak, the better. Yes, they will shun you, no matter what. That is their issue, not yours. Yes, it hurts but unfortunately, there is no really easy way to leave a cult. You seem to know the consequences. We did too. Has it been worth it? HELL YES! FREEDOM IS SO WORTH IT!

Update: My current situation
by Issa init's been about two months since i stopped attending meetings, came to the conclusion that the org is not the truth, and i'm currently dealing with some problems since leaving the org.
i want to discuss these problems and hopefully get helpful advice.. discovering the truth about ourselves is a lifetime's work, but it's worth the effort - fred rogers.
my current situation in this: i faded and hold off on writing a disassociation letter.

Just need to vent a little
by Phoebe inin the last week i have had three visits from brothers.
so 6 witnesses in all as they come in pairs.
now considering i used to go to the meetings, sit by myself and literally no one talked to me - ever - why the concern all of a sudden?.

Magnum hit the nail on the head with his post.
We were told recently that our life may not be bad yet but it will get bad. You see, they (WT) has it and YOU don't. lol

Phoebe
I had a sister (Elders wife) criticize my dress and look several years back. I literally tore her a new one. Lol She was speechless and embarrassed. Don't let people insult you. You sound like an amazing person.
There is a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt, "no one can criticize you without your consent." I love that one.
Hugs!

They call it lovebombing. The JW's are not having any success in converting new ones. They have to rely on the born ins and get the "weak" back.
I had the same thing happen. It's bizarre!

They should ask the Elders if married and unmarried people live together under one roof at Bethel homes? What's the difference? -

When JWs Pray for Houston
by NJ501 inwhen i hear prayers given by brothers why do they only pray for other jws not all people??
i remember hearing a comment from my mother saying 4000 jws are affected by this...and i'm thinking yes that is sad but what about the tens of thousands other people affected?
too me it just doesn't seem right to just pray for jws but to pray for all victims.

If JW's can turn their back on their closest family members what would make them care for anyone who is a non JW. No natural affection at its best.
Like Tor said above, JW's just don't get it until it directly affects them. We have witnessed this first hand. Sad!

Watchtower is running out of people so if one of their "special" ones screws up "give us a call so we can decide on how to sweep it under the rug." Are some of these "special" ones starting to question the fabulous 7?

How to disorder a JW (family) chat
by Gorbatchov inwe all know the moment that a nice family chat is moving to the propaganda game.. sister in law saying that jw.org is the highest ranked website, cousing saying that the new hq is energy neutral, aunt stating that jw have the best education.... what can we say on these moments?.
that br splane just likes these new light ideas?.
that a jw.org video stated that jw use the name jehovah because people recognize this name?.

I typically don't say anything, just smile. Trying to reason with these people is frustrating and a waste of time. You can not reason with unreasonable people. We have tried. We just act extremely happy and smile. Life is just to damn short.

Typical JW concern. No concern for anyone else out of the JW bubble!
We even have JW family that will go the extra mile for those in their congregations but NOTHING for the family. We all get NOTHING. If you are not "spiritual" enough, they dismiss you. NOW, if they need something like a favor or they need money, they will find you immediately! Funny how that works!

Cart witnessing in the quietest in my suburb.
by fulltimestudent ini walked to the station yesterday to meet a friend, and on the way, in what must be the quietest street in the entire suburb, were two j.witnesses and their little cart, all set with a literature display.
i wondered what point there may have been to choose that location.
i felt like grabbing one of their bibles and reading matthew 5:15 to them:.

Maybe if they keep telling themselves that all these things are "privileges" they will start to actually believe it.
