today i attended a one-day assembly in my hometown.

i knew when it came time to read the afternoon expenses that it would be an incredibly high and ridiculous amount that was nowhere near the real expenses for that day.

sure enough, after lunch came the announcement.

Wifi and Tech49 are spot on. It was the "Imitate Jehovah" one-day assembly. Tech you are spot on about many talks pointing towards being "smart" about wasting money on the latest technology among others.

Let me add to my initial OP in that there was I believe a $3,000 + "in the bank" which by the time the brother was announcing the figures was probably already in the mail to the org in the form of a check. With the rest coming after they collect every single penny from the friends.

As far as baptisms I believe there was 16 in total with majority being young early 20s some late teens and about two or three below the age of 15 that I saw. Sad, sad situation for them.

not going to school

i don't know if it is the same where you are but where i live it is a common practise of jdub`s to withdraw their kid`s from school at about year 8 even younger in some cases.

they say they are being home schooled & of cause they do cover a certain amount of school topics.

don't get me wrong i`m not saying that it is wrong to home school a youngster, especially if they are being bullied or suffering in some way, but the jdub`s don't do it for this purpose, oh no their kid`s are out on the field service during what would be school hours.

This is also an issue that is becoming very common around my hometown.

The excuse is always avoiding bad influences that can lead to trouble yada, yada.

My thinking is the kid is going to have to experience the world someday so trying to overprotect him now will only result in shock later on. The kid has to display where his loyalty lies and if he really is faithful to God. Parents trying to ingrain a belief or doctrine into someone who doesn't except it or believe it is useless to God. So therefore, protecting a child who is encouraged to make the biggest decision of his life in baptism while still a preteen or teen, yet is unable to care for himself spiritually. Makes sense?

I see the similarity in teaching a kid at home in a driving simulator how to drive. Once the kid passes the driving tests and hits the road he will be shocked to actually experience the true nature and emotions that come with driving a 3000 lb vehicle around other real cars, trucks, buses, trains, bikes, mopeds, and people. It's just not the same.

Today I attended a one-day assembly in my hometown. I knew when it came time to read the afternoon expenses that it would be an incredibly high and ridiculous amount that was nowhere near the real expenses for that day.

Sure enough, after lunch came the announcement. The expenses for this ONE-DAY assembly totaled $11,000.

I thought "what a nice round tidy number" and then looked over at the spouse who is still very much in, and she just rolled her eyes at me and quietly told me to not overreact or say anything. I had been telling her that we would once again foot an expensive bill.

Mind you, the assembly hall is paid for, all work including maintenance is done by the friends, and wastes are kept to a minimum of course. Can utilities really be that high for 1,700 friends? The total contribution made by 3 p.m.? $501.

Prior to making the actual expense figure known, the brother tried to make excuses about us now belonging to a new circuit, yada, yada, etc.

Could the friends be revolting and getting fed up with expenses that don't add up? I did tell my spouse that it seems that the friends are no longer buying what the WTS is trying to sell them.

Anyone else have any similar experiences?

Thinking about taking my fiance to a meeting.. going as a "worldly person"

give them fake names and just see how my fiance reacts.

he's been curious about seeing what i hated so much about the whole thing (not that he'll really understand everything, i mean of course he never will to my extent but)... i'd like to see what an outsiders view on the whole thing would be as well.

@ James Mixon - that's an interesting perspective. I would set it up where after the meeting, have them all talk among themselves acting normal but not speaking and completely avoiding the regular r & f like they weren't even there.

Talk about a mind twister. I would pay, yes pay, to see this actually happen. Heck I should start a GoFundMe page and fly people in from different cities

this is truly terrible.

i just love the statement "instead of eulogizing the deceased, use the material in this outline to give a fine witness concerning the truth.

" in other words, utterly disregard the deceased.

"The purpose of this talk is to uphold Jehovah God as a God of love and mercy and at the same time bring comfort to the bereaved."

The scriptures, what to say, how long to say it, and what song to sing, while mentioned as a suggestion, given the rigid Pharisaical nature of the org., the speaker knows they MUST abide by some if not ALL of the "suggested" options.

While Jehovah should be rightfully thanked it is Jesus to whom we should look to for hope in that he will resurrect us and judge us as righteous. That is the authority Jehovah has given him both in heaven and on earth. Something the WTS loves to deny although clearly written.

The more the name "Jehovah" is thrown out there the more validity is given to the WTS.

since then, many of us have been released from bondage of the wts and set free.

by the way, where is ray franz today, what is he doing?

a brother goes to the thursday night meeting, and an elder says that he and a couple of elders would like to visit with him.

@ Diogenesister - I'm with you on this one. I don't know if I misunderstood or misread. Either way the response by the elders is probably right on. When backed into a corner they revert to ignorance and parrot their little secret manual. It's rather disturbing to see so many people on the same pipe inhaling the same smoke.

It makes me sick that I have to sit through an assembly this weekend.

@ Overlapping..... - that's the problem within. Brother charismatic was truly repentant otherwise why would he even waste his time getting ready, preparing and studying, just for the heck of it? He could have been d'f 1 day before he showed up at that hall having made a sincere heartfelt prayer asking for forgiveness that night. BUT because of the pharisee-like self imposed rules and policies of the WTS the brother would have to wait. THEN after waiting at least 6 months, again depending on the offense, he would have to write a letter praising the organization and how it's man's only chance for survival. THEN he would have to grovel at the feet of the elder panel. THEN he would have to wait to see if these untrained circus monkeys saw mind, physical, and emotional repentance to the appropriate level, AND if they had no poop left over in their anal cavity, so that he could be called back in to the back room and enslaved again to the WTS.

@ OneStep..... - I would have your husband walk up to a member perhaps an elder and ask that I know why Jesus came to earth and his purpose and NOW he would like to get baptized. Once they object and advise that there's a process, have him tell them about the eunuch and the jailer and how they were baptized right away.
