To say I'm sorry would be an understatement.
The pressure to bend can be incredible so I can't blame you.
Just maintain your sanity by staying busy with hobbies or new found friends that don't have the same cult mentality.
grew up in east la in a bad neighborhood to a black mother and white father.
i never knew my father because he died in a car accident when i was a few weeks old.
my mother converted as a jw soon after when two sisters came to her door and offered her comfort, which was something she needed.

i was invited to a small get-together by a long time friend.
we both served as elders for years.
he is in his late 70s.
This isn't interesting. It's a bombshell!!
For friends to meet all together under one roof and believe that WTS is bullcrap is mind bending.
I've always repeated this to my spouse. How there are thousands of witnesses who still attend for different reasons but no longer subscribe to the crap the WTS peddles.
She never believed it would come to this.
Thanks John. Please keep us updated.

i know this question has popped up from time to time but i really would like to know how you guys, those that no longer believe, came to that conclusion?
was it the wts and all its crap?
was it something you read?
The relevance of dust and bananas was explained well by The Rebel. Does it go on to prove definitively that we evolved over millions of years? Perhaps, yes. But the fact stands that both evolved or originated from dust.
Then again, some in history have alluded to a Christ having walked the Earth. Then I remember reading the Apollos account by Terry which made me reflect the writings of Paul and the Bible in general.
There are arguments for both sides and I'll be the first to admit that science is starting to crack the "why are we here and where did we come from" shell that has existed for many centuries now. Yet again, scientists opinion that life originated from space. If it did, who or what placed sparked it? Scientist agree that the Big Bang started it all, yet, who initiated the Big Bang? And why has there not been another Big Bang since or has there?

@ LisaRose - thank you for your candor and explanation on believing and disbelieving.
I too could not wrap my head around the lack of evidence of a global flood. Then again, science has found that strawberries and bananas DNA have similar characteristics to our own DNA. And in the Genesis account God says we were created from the ground or dust. Then again, Jesus, in Mark 4:30-32 said that the mustard seed was the smallest of all the seeds. So while I still believe, I also have doubts.

so there is a guy who wants me to associate with him.
but there are some strange things about him, such as:.
he hears "direction from unseen" forces.. he thinks the idea of slavery was ok.. he likes killing animals and splashing their blood around and making huge bonfires of carcasses smoke all day long.. he has one wife, or maybe two, but is ok with having lots of other sleeping partners as well.. he likes another person who slept with his own daughters.. he thinks women should be subservient and "keep their place".. he frowns on education.. he thinks killing in a war is ok if they deserve it...even babies should be killed.. he is often asking for money.. he thinks that pyramids foretell the future, and that only a few people can explain divine truths to him, except their explanations have changes many, many times...often contradicting other teachings.... etc..... get it?
Definitely something to meditate on.
Thanks for breaking it down 'stuckinarut2'

@ Cofty and Viviane:
Please understand that I'm not defending anyone's actions or condemning them, I'm explaining it.
If you guys don't believe that the following quote is indicative of calling someone a bull****er than please accept my apologies. I'm not able to break it down any further:

Everybody has a right to express themselves as they see fit but expressing oneself in a professional, firm yet courteous way, can lead to even more insight and participation by other members who won't feel intimidated by the harsh and pointed language specifically aimed at members who disagree with another member's opinion albeit factual information.
While I'm not fragile, like I said, there are those members who wish to participate in some threads yet refrain from doing so due to the nature of the conversation and where it's headed.
I reserve the right to engage anyone on any subject, yet I find it's more beneficial for everyone that healthy respectful thread comments be made in the interest of reading different perspectives and allowing more participation by different board members. This can only lead to a deeper more meaningful productive discussion.

@ Viviane and cofty:
Cofty, while you didn't spell it out, you did call EOM a bull***ter.
EOM did also throw some jabs at both of you which is also not very nice.
I just sincerely appreciate everyone's contribution and believe that by being respectful and respectfully refuting an argument is better than being argumentative which is not very conducive to a healthy forum environment.
Thank you guys for your contribution.

Cofty I respect you. Your contributions to this site add to the broad base of knowledge.cofty wrote:

I ask that, out of respect for other contributors, you refrain from attacking someone personally.
It would better serve this member forum to have an open, fair, and respectful discussion without resorting to name calling.
Thank you to everyone, including you cofty, for your contribution to this thread so far.
