A New Year and a New Start For Lurkers
by The Searcher inwhat better time of the year (than hogmanay) to encourage lurkers to examine black & white examples of org teachings which are false, and for them to rebelliously examine what is presented as "truth?
" (km september 2007 - question box) .
here are some previous examples for those who have yet to read them: .

10 Years On...
by done4good injust a note that 10 years ago, (christmas day, 2005), was my last time inside a kh.
a lot has taken place for the better in those 10 years:.
1. met the love of my life and happily married for 9 years, two days ago.. 2. completed a master's degree.. 3. work at senior management level in the it field.. 4. have a savings and retirement, and no debt outside of a mortgage and 1 car loan.. 5. lots of travel to several places that i never would have done as a jw.. 6. contribute to what i believe are meaningful causes.. 7. read, think, and meditate for myself.. 8. have a great extended family i inherited from my wife.. 9. lots of other great stuff, too much to list.. none of this is intended to be boastful.

Jason, I don't believe you for one second that all of the good things you listed you have actually experienced. No way!
You have deviated from the ex-JW miserable life script. And I for one will not tolerate it.
You should be knee deep in debt, gone through at least 2 divorces, have taken up hardcore drinking, dabbled in dope, have a real crappy job, slept with half the town, and are near the verge of suicide.
Oh wait, you didn't buy the bull**** when they were selling it.

Some amazing insights on why the the name Jehovah is no more used in the new testament scriptures
by paradisebeauty ini read this blog post by a person i have no idea if she is still a jw or not, but it made me think and gain some new perspective on using the divine name.
please read it if you can, it will change your view!
and it totally devalidates the jw dogma that they are the only ones using god's name, no, they are actually orphans.

Why do girls have a hymen?
by JWchange inif you believe humans evolved, and were not created, why would having a hymen help, especially as no other mammal has one?
if you believe humans were created by {a} god, or intelligent beings with advanced technology, what was the reason for a hymen?
i'm interested to hear your thoughts on this unusual subject, not many people talk about..

@ cofty - your admittance just validates my point. Yes, your tone is rude and not conducive to a healthy friendly discussion environment where other users are encouraged to participate. Instead, they shy away because of precisely your ignorance to the rules of this forum. Read the following posted on the welcome page:
"......and provide a friendly, tolerant and informative environment where you can ask questions, share information and make new friends."
Yes, your tone should not be tolerated by me or anyone else for that matter. Perhaps you can convince Simon to change the wording on the welcome page to better suit you.

@ nicolaou and OEJ - it's one thing to bring up valid points and make an argument. It's another matter entirely to belittle and more or less insult someone's post in a condescending way merely because they disagree with you.
@ cofty - contrast the way you responded to me with how you initially responded to Rattigan. Notice a difference? Yes, you were being considerably more respectful with the exception of "moaning". And yes, I'm actually very interested in learning how life originated. Not trying to be clever cofty, just a sincere interest to learn more and more. Thank you. I will definitely check out the book you recommended. I'm always open to suggestions. I'm not closed minded at all.
Let's take a closer look at your reply to Rattigan to see if I'm exaggerating:
How much time and effort have you put into finding an answer to your question?
Clearly you are talking down to Rattigan here.
If it is the hymen that makes you doubt evolution why didn't you bother to read the answer above?
Here you are taking an authoritative tone reprimanding Rattigan like a superior talking to an employee for his lack of action to your liking
.Evolution is a fact. Get over it.
Authoritative tone like a parent speaking to a child. Leaving no room for discussion
Reality takes priority.
Simply speaking, you are telling Rattigan his belief in Creationism is stupid and idiotic.

Cofty, is there some particular reason for your hostility to someone's opinion? So suddenly you are the board expert on evolution and anyone who contests it is wrong? When were you published? In what academic journal can I find it so I can learn more about evolution?
Why the need to be condescending with people who wish to engage in a friendly discussion?
Professor Cofty, where did the first living cell come from? How did it originate? -

If they weren't my elders, I would have told them to mind their business.
This is the reason they feel they have free reign in questioning anyone with anything.
I would have told them you weren't comfortable with the line of questioning and ended it there.
These people are nuts as it is and they may be digging for info and dirt on you.
I'm still and active member and brothers know better than to try that crap on me. I've made my position clear. Steer clear! Elders, Circuit Overseer, or anyone else for that matter.

by Brokeback Watchtower ini was just reading this news clip about a mayor from my home town of waterbury, ct how was given a 37 year sentence for raping to minor girls.
the fed were watching him " trying to determine whether giordano was taking bribes from a mafia building contractor, fbi agents learned he was systematically raping the 9- and 11-year old daughter and niece of a prostitute in his office in the city hall.".

Noah's ark
by dothemath infor those that believe in the flood story as genesis says, then they also are forced to accept a huge amount of evolution, way faster than any evolutionist would propose.. from a basic selection of "kinds", to the several millions of land species there are now, and in only about 4000 years.. not to mention the many types of birds that made it to remote islands, and then somehow lost their ability to fly... not even possessing wings( ex- dodo bird, moa).
scientists agree this was a process that took eons of time.. i was thinking of this because we just had a public talk on noah.
i sure couldn't make a fool of myself on that subject, going on how "factual" it all is..

I still believe in the account in Genesis. At least the collective account in Genesis considering some parts are a bit confusing.
I do however, possess an inquisitive mind which allows for opinions to be researched confirmed or dismissed. Then again, there are those opinions and even established scientific facts that sometimes are hard to believe yet I take things slowly. Just the way I was able to unravel and disrobe the WTS. Okay, maybe using the word "disrobe" was not good.
