Xena,
I feel sorry for your nephew. Hopefully, he's doing as well as you.

hi, everyone.. on my researches about the jdubs.
i read that they are restricted or forbidden from engaging in activities such as sports, working out in a gym or in martial arts.. i, who does all three, have a question for the members of this forum:.
when you were a jw, could you do any of the three activities mentioned?.

Pork Chop:
I wonder if that new brochure "Jehovah's Witnesses and Education" doesn't discourage young Witnesses to pursue a Higher Education like getting a college degree?

nytelecom1:
If it is pure lies and bs, then what is your take in regards participating in any of these 3 activities?
Would you do it or do you have to contact your elder for permission to do it (where is the freedom in there?)?
Also, if dubs are in community league, doesn't that goes against what the society says: "Instead of spending time on that, they should spend time more on field service" ?
Feel free to answer.
BTW, everyone who had been a JW: Are any choices that you made regarding these activities between you and Jehovah? or Between you and the elders/WTS society?

LB, I am sorry about your son. Hopefully, everything is OK between you and him.
Nathan, I cannot believe that WTS officers have their bodyguards. Talking about double standards.
To everyone who posted in general, it seems to me that there are too many double standards and favoritism in that area: Some are allowed to do it, others are not.
Also, to everyone who posted or will post, thanks for the feedback!

Hi, everyone.
On my researches about the JDubs. I read that they are restricted or forbidden from engaging in activities such as sports, working out in a gym or in Martial Arts.
I, who does all three, have a question for the members of this forum:
When you were a JW, could you do any of the three activities mentioned?
Were you Discouraged, Frowned Upon, Shunned or Restricted from doing any of these activities?
The main reason is because I see a little double standards. For example, The Williams Sisters in Tennis and they are JWs.
Also, a JW (not the one that I befriended) who I had a discussion on the net practices Martial Arts>
I like to know what is the WBTS stand on any of these activities.
Feedbacks are welcome.

i thought that i'd share with you, i welcome feedbacks from all of you on what do you think.
i will set other threads from my email discussions with that particular jdub.. i will show you the questions that i asked him and the response that he gave me:.
my question: he said that salvation comes from both grace and works.
After reading your posts, I have something to say about this, I know some of you will not agree with me, but you're welcome to reply me.
What I am gonna say is:
That not only JesusChrist sacrificed himself for our salvation. He also did it for our freedom. Freedom from living under the bondage of "Attempting to Achieve salvation by works" (quoting indireneed). Freedom from the guilt trip and feeling that we had not done enough to "measure up to the high standard" (Again, quoting indireneed).
Feedbacks, anyone?

when you were a jw, how many of you actually went to a gathering of some sorts, which could have been called a disguised x-mas- or new years eve party among witnesses?
we always had parties and large dinners with them during this time, as a lot of witnesses were somewhat despondent or lonely because of the festivities going on in the "world".... appreciate your thoughts about this!.

Escargot,
I'm still reading Crisis of Conscience. I don't have the other book.
Oh well, I might as well hang on for the ride even though I'm not a JW, I did befriend one.

What's wrong with these scenarios? I thought Dubs don't celebrate Thanksgiving or X-mas or any Holiday. Yet, they have "get togethers" for those days?
