why do people join cults, even though some are very intelligent people?
what religions do you consider to be cults?.
Some, if not most, people are sheep, believe it or not.
Some people does it to feel accepted; to feel useful and being part of something.
Some others, like many of you, did not have any choice because you were born into it or because you were children and your parents made the decision for you.
But mostly, the reason is to fill an void in life, be it psychological, spiritual or political.

in answering the question about why do jws continue to believe whatever the society prints and postulates we must start with an inward look at ourselves.
every person had his or her own reason to become a jw.
in fact, when we were jws the first question we used to ask of those we recently meet, say in the hall or at assemblies, was how did they become a jw?

I guess after people are already in the truth, they no longer have them because:
(1) Honest? They are not honest to non-JWs: Why they just don't admit to us, non-JWs, that they are covering up child abuses? or letting sexual molesters out in field service? or Straight up say to us in their field service:"If you don't join, you'll die at Armageddon." and save all their speech of a better place?
(2) They are not humble as they think that they are better than everyone else who's not a JW.
(3) Hungry for the Truth? The only truth(s) that they are hungry for is power (getting an important position within their borganization) and money (see power).

what a bad world we would live in, if everbody was a jw, and would shun you for taking blood, for missing meetings, for becoming inactive, for marrying a person not spiritual enough, and so on so forth.. luckily there is only 1/1000 worldwide.. how would you picture this world if everybody was a jw?.
If everybody were JW, hmmm???

i was reading a thread in which jh said:.

now, not to come down on jh by any means, but this raised a question in my mind.
Before I knew and dealt with a JW, I thought that they were just like any mainstream Christian group. That was until they told me that they don't celebrate birthdays and holidays. Then, I made more research on what they are about. I also found out that they don't give to other charities as I still remember after 9/11 that the people that didn't contribute squat to the families of the victims were the JWs and their excuse is they always help out in their own ways and have their own charities.
To many non-witnesses that I know (friends, families and acquaintances), they are known for:
1. Annoyingly knocking doors in the morning, especially weekend, just to throw their sales pitch about their rags.
2. Being eccentric people with totally different habits/lifestyle.
3. Not participating in blood transfussion/donation or holidays/birthdays celebration.
Knowing more about the JWs now, I will never join that unGodly cult and will put a restraining order on them if they ever approach my family and kids.

If I am running a political position (government, city mayor, etc...), as much as I like to ban them, I won't do it because it will make us just as worse as they are: infringing on other people's right.
I won't ban them from coming to shopping at the store or if they are working in the same workplace.
NOW for my personal life and space (my home, property, family, kids, work office or cubicle), I will definitely tell them to take a hike or I'll file a complaint to the local authorities for them (dubs) to leave me and my kids the hell alone.

Let me point out also from Simon's and Gizmo's posts. There is also inconsistency and double standards in the BORGanization: In Simon's post, it shows if perp or perv is an elder, he can get away within the congregation. In Gizmo's, it shows the opposite, who knows? I guess the perv in Gizmo's post may be or may not be an elder.
What a hypocritical double standard from "God's Organization on Earth"!!!!
