I can remember literally dozens of experiences and parts in meetings and assemblies designed to discourage young ones from going to college and becoming full time pioneers instead. What really makes me angry was that it infected my thinking for a while as well, I felt like going to college and getting a good career would be somehow wrong. Not only that, it left me feeling lost and directionless, since I wasn't exactly MS quality either due to my liberal outlook.

I'm angry for not having made more 'wordly' friends in high school, for not having been able to devout myself to education earlier, for having to feel like my hobbies and interests were wrong, and for believing I was somehow better than everyone who wasn't a dub.

Now this is what I call a miracle
by WildHorses intoddler thought dead makes recovery
fullerton, calif. (nov. 8) - a 20-month-old girl was pronounced dead at a hospital after being found face-down in a swimming pool, but a police investigator later noticed her breathing and she was revived.. the toddler's mother discovered her in the family pool friday morning and she was taken to anaheim memorial medical center, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later, said fullerton police sgt.
ron gillett.. a police investigator alone in the hospital room taking photographs of the girl's body saw some movement and noticed her breathing, gillett said.

If this little girl came back, it makes you wonder how long people can be pronounced clinically dead, and there still be a chance of resuscitating them.

Christians can act like dubs sometimes by their shock that you have "turned"......or backslid, against god and his word. Some will even shy away from you after you tell them.
I've noticed this as well, dubs aren't the only ones skilled at shunning. I worry over it frequently, my mother is only just starting to come to terms with what she knows about what the society has done, while trying to reconcile her Christian faith. Breaking away from the WTS will be hard as it is for her. I try to keep my new beliefs and opinions to myself now, as I don't want to her to completely lose hope. I'm especially careful around my friends from the hall. If they learned what I think of the society they would become antagonistic as it is, but if they knew that I believe in evolution, reincarnation, have rejected traditional christianity and am now considering experimenting with magic, they would probably think I had become Satan's avatar. Which would, incidentally, destroy any chance I might have of helping them escape from dubdom.

ET was Jesus.
You know, the WTS once had this article about the movie ET, and how people were comparing Jesus to ET. I had to be one of the stupiest articles I've ever seen. They claimed the movie encouraged delinquient behavior because the kids were playing dungeons and dragons at one part. Furthermore, they had several paragraphs about how Jesus is real, and how ET is just a fictional character(umm, duh, as if we didn't know? )

Mankind's Search For God Book
by stillajwexelder inimho one of the best publications the wtbts has ever released -- it actually gave useful background information on other religions.
i honestly would recommend that people have a copy on theor bookshelves.
however, it has never been studied -- either at congregation book studies, in the theocratic ministry school as instruction talk material -- why?

I agree, this was one of the Society's best publications. Even though they do insert their own spin on things, there's a lot of interesting and indepth information. I used to study it frequently before.
Of course, you can easily find better researched material just about anywhere else.

Hi enishi,
I should have been more clear. The Literalist christians were the ones who squelshed the first gnostic christians, and the gnostics in general. This was done by the Romanized gnostics as they were the ones to adopt the literalist view. In the 4th century with constantine trying to unify his empire, he had almost all traces of early gnostic writings destroyed and were it not for the adversaries writing against them....little would be known of them and their beliefs. However........in 1945 in a cave near Nag Hammadi in Eygpt....this all changed. An Arab peasant stumbled upon a whole library of gnostic writings such as that of the gospel of Thomas, Phillip, Peter, and the 12 diciples. Thousands of writings were discovered there.
Ok, we were thinking of the same group then. Yeah, Constantine and the literalist Christians were the instigators of one of the worst disastors human society has ever witnessed.
The Nag Hammadi library is actually online now. I've gotten quite a bit of inspiration from it, I particularily enjoyed reading the Gospels of Phillip and Thomas.

First of all, how does all of this fit in with the writings of Josephus who corroborates the story of Jesus and Pilate, and also claims that many believed Jesus to be the King of the Jews?
I'm not entirely sure of this, but I've heard that Josephus's mention of Jesus was an addition added in by Christians.
Are you saying that Yashua was more of a figurehead versus the actual Christ? I noticed that you gradually changed "Gnosticism" into "Mysticism" by the end of your post. Why?
Yes, the teacher Yeshua is more of a representation of the Christ(Logos) than an actual person. I've seen some articles that suggest Yeshua may not have even been a member of the Jewish religion.
I apologize if my post seemed confusing, sometimes I use different terms when refering to the same subject. This because Gnosticism is a form of mysticism.
What esoteric path? What can not be said of the orthodox monotheistic relgions?
Esoteric basically means inner. It refers to spirituality developed through personal, inner experience, rather than faith developed through the study of scripture or membership in an organized religion (exoteric). There is in many cases much overlap though, for instance some forms of Buddhism are very exoteric. The thing with orthodox monotheistic religions, although there are many spiritual people in their ranks, they are based on historical events and legends which may or may not have happened, or were merely allegorical, as well of ancient writings of questionable authenticity. Attached though I may be to the person of Jesus portrayed in the Gospels, as Gumby pointed out the historical authenticity of Jesus's life is shaky at best.
