  Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses

  allow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.

  i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.

  some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

  i've been dating a jw girl for about 4 years and we've recently had a lot of issues with the fact that her family doesn't like that i'm not a jw.

  i've been looking into the religion and am interested in it.

  but is it wrong to join just so i don't lose her?

  What bad habits have you picked up since leaving the Borg.

  i went back to smoking and gambling but the good habits out weigh.

  the bad ones, like lying to people.

  is't fraud against the law, the practice.

  Well.....I got into the bad habit of going to college and finishing 4 college degrees, learning how to fly single engine aircraft, and more than quadrupling my income.......

  .....all the things that will take time away from ensuring my everlasting life by wasting valuable and precious time going door to door schlepping useless magazines.

  Setback

  i saw this coming since my mother-in-law's funeral .... the congregation's "love-bombing" over my wife had its impact.

  i watched her drawing closer and closer to her friends in the congregation.

  then she decided she would attend the memorial.

  As was pointed out, some people just prefer the Watchtower religion and don't care if they are being manipulated and lied to, any more than black people as a group don't care that Obama has lied to them about his muslim, marxist and gay proclivities.

  Active posters: What education have you had, what degrees do you possess?

  from so many posts and conversations on here, you'd think over 1/2 the posters here possess doctorates in theology, physics, biology, etc.

  i'm curious aside from the books and research people have done here, what degrees they have.

  to start, i just got an aa and going straight through full time to an mba.

  BAAS Applied Administration (the equivalent of a general business degree)

  MS Technology Management

  I'd have to say that the most challenging and rewarding work I've done was the work to get my Masters Degree. Didn't really need it for the job I hold, but, I wanted it in my pocket just in case.

  Agreed with Oub.....

  This guy is just putting you off and laying claim to the superior position by making you wait for him.....probably for a time when it would be convenient for him to have another brother around so that they can tag team you with WT bullshit. He's wearing you down....making you play the waiting game because as long as you do and are willing to wait he can extract more concessions out of you.

  The son being your step son does put you in a somewhat sensitive and somewhat emasculating position even though you've been father to the boy for most of his life. Its a disheartening thing to see.

  From the looks of it, it doesn't matter what you do, there is going to be considerable and significant blowback. You seem to be waiting for the right time and sequence of things to do.......in the meantime you're losing sleep and worrying yourself sick over the way you are being treated. As Dr. Phil would say...."Hows that working out for you?"

  You probably need to take some kind.....any kind of concrete action if not for your son or your wife's sake, but for your own and fiure out a way once and for all to put this behind you.

  You definitely have some merit in the way you feel.

  Your wife, along with this "brother" is totally disrespecting and circumventing your authority,boundary, and space. They have, in effect dismissed you as the boys father.

  If it were me, I'd show up after one of their weekend meetings and demand to meet with the whole body of elders and point blank them on what is going on and ask if they would tolerate such disrespect in their own home.

  Play the headship card.

  Barring that, I would withdraw my "ble$$ings" and start proceedings for kicking her ass to the curb for disrespecting me in such a way. If she and the brothers want to go there, I'd make damn sure they would be holding the bag for paying for it.

  memorial campaing experience

  so a friend from work had a get togather to watch ncaa basketball this pass weekend and i went on saturday morning as we wer watching the game some one rings the doorbell and my friend gos to the door he is there maybe a minute or so, he walks back into the room and screams outloud !!!

  "yes i got invited" and starts laughing as other see what he was talking about .

  someone sais " i hate those door knockers".
