jw.org cart days numbered?
by jookbeard inreading a report of an elder in a friends cong has been hiding and spying on the pioneers who seem to have a practise of dumping the cart and finding a local coffee shop, i've noticed that they do this in my local high street as well but this week they seemed to be all huddled around the cart, they've clearly been warned, a vast percentage of the time i see they seem to be more interested in fiddling with their mobile phones and gossiping, is just seems these carts are a means for the pioneers to turn in "easy time" i wonder what sort of figures show how much literature is being taken by the public?
i bet its very minimal.
naturally the gb would say they are a phenomenal success , we clearly know they are not.

OTWO nailed it. its a zero investment for the branch as it is, any return is 'free money', but money the point anyway. it's publicity and keeping the members busy. -

A couple questions for atheists on Suffering
by little_Socrates inwho told you that the world should be free from suffering?.
do you find any value in suffering?.
do you think it is possible to experience all the beauty and goodness and pleasure the world offers without also experiencing the bad?

Im not sure what atheists you have been talking too but most i know find life exciting and vibrant, full of oportunity and wonder.
What i wonder is why god cant be bothered to help people who die in tsunamis but he answers prayers about....whatever petty random crap people pray about. Its not about avoiding suffering its about realizing that sky daddy cant be bothered to help when it really matters.

Assembly in Seattle this weekend?
by Lynnie indoes anyone know about an assembly or convention or whatever they call it now in the seattle-tacoma area in the last couple of weeks?
i have a ditzy cousin who posts on fb that the assembly was "promoting peace and the sun.
i'm sure they were really promoting money and the gb but my cousin is so newly brainwashed she has her own twist on everything.

I certainly dont think "all" suffering is evil. Suffering on a treadmill isnt evil. Suffering in the weight room isnt evil.... Unless you have heart attack on the treadmill. Or drop a 150lb barbell on your little toe..
the problem is you are defining "suffering" in such a general way its impossible to answer you specifically. Narrow it down a bit and more precise answer will be easy to provide

a situation I know of and the mind set of the elders.
by joe134cd inok here's the situation i know of.. a women was in a situation where she was forced to reveal a hidden sin and was given a private reproof for it.
before this she had an other wise clean slate.
btw the reproof was for an unrelated matter and had nothing to do with apostasy.

Another former elder here, ditto to all the above.
its not personal, its not because your a woman. Its an unpaid job on their part and you get what you pay for... If you wernt in the cluiqe your just not on the radar much when you fade away....

Injected Buddhist teachings into Watchtower Study today
by cappytan inon the paragraph about meditation in today's study, i gave a comment about "meditating with a view towards mindfulness and awareness of the positive things in our lives.".
afterwards, about 8 people that i rarely talk to in the congregation came up and expressed how much they appreciated that point.. wanted to say, "thank the buddha.
" but didn't have the guts.

A "body of elders" or really one main guy?
by Simon inthe wts promotes the idea of congregations being managed by a body or elders who all follow their rules and so are in full agreement with how things should be done.. was your hall like this?.
out hall was a constant battlefield for power between a couple of elders and their families - relatives that had been promoted to various positions.
it wasn't some hidden secret, it was blatant and obvious.

By and large it was a very political entity, a couple of key players struggling to get their way.....
