Why people don't believe in God
by pressman indo you want to know why i think people don't believe in god?
well i believe people don't want to believe in god because they are scared.
they know that if they finally do gorge the confidence to believe in him, he might discipline them for their skepticism.

Lol slidin, dont be a kill joy. I dont think most hang their hat on the number one way or another, its just water cooler chat here on the board. Its something to talk about since the org makes a big a show it on their end. I apprecite that the facination with all things jw gets old but this seems to be harmless speculation and mild fooder for debate compared to other topics -

I am interested but the problem is we can never REALLY know. The wt collects the numbers and publishes them without independent confirmation or auditing. They can say anything they want to make to the rank and file feel good. Locally (DC) we had a prime slot (7:30 start) and no one outside the regulars showed up. Purely anecdotal but i was unimpressed. -

still in .. wishing for a ttatt brother in the hall
by user100 inthe entire hall was invited to a party at a brothers house after the memorial.. actually had conversations with a few people.. two guys that were recently disfellowshipped and since re-instated... would love to see what they really think about the religion.. but have no idea how to bring it up.. .
my beliefs are quite in the open (i think), i am inactive and do not comment or give talks.. i dont sing, i dont close my eyes during prayers and i dont say amen... funny though.. we were having a conversation, one of the recently re-instated asked me which service group i belong to.. my reply after some thought was... "i have no idea" .. coz seriously.. i had no idea.
wonder how that went... they all laughed it off including the pioneer drone standing next to me... i am tempted to ask them if they value freedom of speech and if so do they think we have freedom of speech in the jw religion.....

You have the right idea. I find many, and some very supprising people, have doubts. Take a breath and give a small opening. Watch them open up or clam up. If they open up you know you have a potential friend and all, just dont go rushing in full force. If they clam up and go full on cult mode, just smile and move on. As time goes by you will feel more comfortable. The fear fades and you will get a good sense of how far you can push things. -

The 50 Ways to Be Disfellowshipped
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering ... what are all of the "official" reasons provided by elders for disfellowshipping someone?
i know the most common reasons are adultery and fornication, but what about the others?
a couple of years ago i traveled back to my hometown` and one of my old jw acquaintances told me that her grown son had been disfellowshipped for refusing to stop associating with another disfellowshipped person.

@wildthing- the flock book states the list is not all inclusive. They would never limit themselves in print. Its merely a top 10 list, so to speak. -

Sigh... As usual when these childish antics are demonstrated its the witnesses who end up looking rational. The 'brother' takes the wine glass and passes it to the next person as the clown rants irrationally about things 90% of the audience has no context for....
Thank you for setting back the cause of reasoning with my family and friends 10 years, but hey it made you feel good to stand up in front of them and spout out for 20 seconds while your equally childish friends snickered and recorded.
What real bravery did that take...? Anyone whos ever been a witness or grew up a witness or even just studied for a while knows they are nonviolent as individuals and certainly at meeting there was no danger whatsoever. It was frankly an act of bullying.
