  Ok lets think this through. Since you seem a tad emotional on this let me help with some rationality....

  Lets assume that every rule you laid out is indeed a rule that jw’s insist be followed.

  now lets remove shunning from the orgs arsenal of weapons.

  with those parameters established, lets now say publisher morpheous f**ks the hell out of a woman he is not married too... maybe gisele bundchen. Given that he banged a supermodel, lets say he comes to the kh and brags about it ( and yes i definitely would). Without the threat of shunning, what are they (any jw) going to do about it...?

  See how that works? Shunning is the ultimate threat to a jw. It removes all friends and support (remember you cant have worldly friends!) and also takes the hope of paradise.... if you remove that threat whats to keep you walking the jw strait line?

  In short the jw cult becomes just another church, a social group. As i already exained, its a social group i was born into. I would go back, nominally, for the social ties i forged over a lifetime, as many here would. Also perhaps you should google the word “nominally” as i expect it will shed some light on what i mean.

  i think the wt will never give up this practice unless forced to by the courts, even if they are financially failing terribly they will keep it because the moment they do get rid of it the whole thing will collapse even faster and they know it(or afraid of it happening).

  If you end shunning its actually not a cult anymore, its just a stupid religion, one i was born into like billions of other people. If shunning were really gone id go back (nominally as i said before) for the community aspect. Id never buy the shit but with no threat of shunning id be free to speak my mind on the shit.

  I dont begrudge anyone their dreams or hopes, lv101. Im on record saying that if they ended df’ing (shunning), i mean really ended it not just changed the name, id go back, at least nominally. That is the core of their power and absent that power people would be free to be whatever they wanted. That is of course why it will never happen.

  @incognito- your earlier point regarding not being transparent on fincial status is something that i always take to mean they are better off than some hope. If they were really struggling they would be more transparent and use it to say ‘hey we need help, see!’. They dont because they know showing their cards would cause donations to drop since it would be apparent that they are ok.

  Also dont take it personally when slim ignores all your logic. He just wants it so bad he has utterly convinced himself the wt is falling and nothing will change his mind. Dont stop trying (im not) but dont take it personally.

  if you have a look at the december broadcast on jw tv they tell you that they wont be showing you a normal format for december but the 143rd event of gilead because the watchtower does not have the resources other wise to translate it many different lanuages.. with all the cuts the watchtower have made and are going to make you would have thought that they would have lots of resources.

  Pepper, your translation caculations are rediculious. Do you honestly think it takes ONE person to translate a talk i to a particular language and that ONE person is located at walkill and can translate the whole gilead program in the snap of a finger?

  You have absolutely zero concept as to what any sort of translating involves. It is a huge effort and takes a large investment of time. A single bilingual person CAN do it, but as a point of referance, it takes a si gle person about 4 hours to translate 20 min of cartoon from Japanese to english. 20 min of simple cartoon dialog. Now take that and extrapolate 3 or 4 hours of complex religious language that in many languages wont have exact words to match along with the need for exacting contextual meaning.

  This looks very much like (yet again) more wishful thinking. You drastically underestimated the needed labor to make seem as if the org lacks something cheap and inexpensive. Epic failure.

  Also slim, your estimate of a 1k videos seems rather short sighted. That would equate to 1k months (since they do one a month). At one a month that would be 83 years. Your on record as saying they are collapsing in 2 years. I call foul on that prediction.

  i realise it's our imperfection but god's organization is not always open to 'outside the box' thinkers such as ourselves.

  i've been researching dinosaurs and god's reason for not preserving these beasts beyond the flood of noah's day.

  It could have been a simple admission that translating a program, recorded a short time ago and with parts that were delivered extemporaneously from scripts that were individually prepared by the presenters, into dozens (or more) languages in a short period of time was beyond their capabilities.

  or it means their collapsing RIGHT NOW THIS VERY INSTANT!!!!!!!!
