I agree 50 million is way to high but, at least in america, most dubs want two or three bibles. One for the meeting bag one for the service bag etc. although the digital app would decrease that. At the memorial 90% of the audiance was using the jw app for the bible.

Well slim, first thank you for bringing this thread to my attention!
While this may be a supprise, let me say we actually have no disagreement on this topic. Rumor was spanish was already done (the new bible translation, that is). I would bet its a purposeful decision not to release it, and one based on money. After the english was released they likely ‘counted the cost’, that is they extrapolated the cost based on the results of the english release, and they dont think the spanish witnesses will carry the cost.
Bare in mind, ive never said the org didnt have problems and didnt need to make changes. Ive said they arnt collapsing, where as SOME people say they are currently collapsing or have collapsed or may one day collapse, depending on the thread ;) They simply cannot afford to live large in the way they did through the 1990’s. They are cutting costs everywhere they can and this translation release seems to be an area they have calculated to be not worth pursuing.
My bet is that the juice isnt worth the squeeze. In languages that didnt have a nwt already they just move forward with the “new” version. The english got released because they felt the english witnesses would make it financially viable (probably not how it worked out). Remember too that the proof readig was done by random bethelites, including people working in the laundry. In was rushed and sloppy. Here on the forum we found glaring errors in the headers. It was half assed and poorly done from the start. One wonders what the motivation to redo it was from the begining. Whatever their intent clearly it hasnt worked out for a lot of reasons and they dont see benefit in releasing in other major languages.

by Sour Grapes inthere are over 8 million jdubs and i would venture a guess that at least 20% to 30% are pimo.
in my opinion, the kingdom hauls are only half full for two reasons....many have left but the majority are pimo and any little excuse will keep them home and they will report their token ghost hours in service.
all it takes to stay home is being tired, too much school homework or i will go next week, no doubt many have taken part-time jobs and the fear of working the second shift and the guilt of missing meetings is gone.

Beard update
by Coded Logic inso it's been over a month since i decided to grow a beard.
the mustache and chin have come in fuller than i ever imagined - while the cheeks leave me wondering if i'll ever grow enough hair to make it not look so wildly unkept and patchy (if anyone has any advice here it'd be much appreciated).
but in the mean time i'll give it another month and see how it goes.. .

Nephew’s JW Fiancée Begins Conversion to Judaism Due to Passover Date
by Rabbi Midge init’s been a while since i posted, but for those who remember, i came on here to get some information about jehovah’s witnesses because i have a nephew who was getting engaged to a girl who was a jehovah’s witness and, along with some other sites, i was recommended this one.. since then we’ve been busy with passover and jehovah’s witnesses have had something they call the memorial of christ’s death (i believe i have that right).
this clashing of the two observances apparently did more for this girl than anything else i ever saw in our months of conversations with her.. respectfully, jews do not proselytize.
these are people who, of their own desire, “join the tribe” after some years of study and practice--something this girl has just begun to do.

By the way, for the comments as to how long it takes to become a JW, it can be done with fresh meat in as little as 6 months, just have to time the study start and the baptisms correctly... I think we should strive for as few baptisms as possible however.
6 months is very unusual in my neck of the woods. From first contact to bible study then to be qualified to go in service then to have been going in service long enough to establish some consistency them for a ca or da to roll around and go over questions and then be dunked.... 6 months is a hell a sprint for all that. Im not calling you a liar.... but thats not normal. For people to be indocrinated, prove their commitment to the cult and be dunked is minimim a year around here and usually two... but in the end the exact time wasnt my point. Ole midge was saying it took a couple of years to convert as if that was relevant to her sales pitch. I was pointing out jw conversions also take time. So what?
As for striving for as few baptismsas possible... isnt the goal zero?

Nobody demanded you stop.
