R.I.P Margot Kidder { Lois Lane} 1948-2018
by smiddy3 ini was saddened to hear this ,she was only 69 yrs old and i thought she played a great lois lane in the superman movie.. in her life she obviously had issues to deal with and not the best of outcomes sometimes .. r.i.p.
margot kidder , 1948- 2018.

I have always enjoyed superhero movies.
My entire life.
And THAT movie is why. Christpher reeve WAS superman. Margot kidder WAS lois lane. No matter how great some of these current marvel movies are (and some of them are great) nothing will compare to that first superman. Lois wasnt just some passing love interest. She was what made the man of steel human. It was his attachment to her that made everything else work and the chemistry between kidder and reeve made the on screen interaction superb. Neither of them really ever saw greatness beyond superman 1&2 but those performances were indeed great!

Que slim in 3...2....
aside from the gloom and doom chorus, the “wuick builds” went away in the early 2000’s. The logic presented was “too much time planning, too many moving pices to coordinate” etc etc.... the reality was they were NEVER 3 days builds. Ever. I worked on plenty and they always had months of planning ahead of time, foundations were dug and poured at least two months out, sewer and water a couple of months, power a couple weeks minimum etc etc...
what was done the weekend of the build was impressive in some respects but ultimately pointless. We tilted up prefab walls on Thursday, set roof trusses on Friday, nailed shingle underlayment and tar paper and began shingling. Inside drywall went up on fridays (tile was already laid and covered to protect) etc etc... it was a ton of work but my god there hundreds of people standing around doing nothing most of the time not to mention the huge food service that was necessary and lots of uncessary saftey risks with so many untrained people wandering around. It never lived up to the hype since we always spent weeks going back doing punch list items anyway not to mention the months leading up. It was a dog and pony show and ended up not being well supported by experianced tradmem. The new thing is the “ldc” local design committee crap.

Grand and Lesser Apostate Delusions
by slimboyfat inwhat is it makes some of those wacky apostates appear from time to time claiming russell and the witnesses were/are all part of some great freemason/illuminati plot?
i'll tell you what it is, and it may explain a few other things for you too!
people who come up with these theories demonstrate a basic psychological insecurity stemming from their involvement and subsequent disentanglement from the witnesses.

Actually one of your more coherent posts, slim one. The wt/illuminati conspiracy theories are ridiculous, although i dont recall seeing many of them to warrent a specific rant about them....
now people who insist the org has collapsed... those people need help.

What really happened around 1918 when WT leaders were imprisoned?
by dubstepped ini had never thought about this until just now when i saw that nathan natas posted some early tract from rutherford, and it made me think back to what little i could remember of the history i was taught.
i now know that in most cases the dubs will spin stories in their favor.
so i'm now assuming i was told some fictitious story about what happened when the leaders were thrown in prison and things looked bleak for the cult way back when.

@dub, yes you have described my position well, i cannot however deny the logic of the alternating position. Frankly they arnt that different. They couldnt win without the war time fervor which made it not worth pursuing. I had a source which cited transcripts of the proceeding that dropped the charges which claimed that the prosecution admitted in court that they couldnt meet the burden of proof. Unfortunately i cant put my hand on it :/ Thus my argument is invalid.

New brochure about donations.
by Ray Frankz inin this midweek meeting the local needs was a booooring speech about the new brochure on donations.
the wt must think the jws are dying to know how to give their money.. well, it's not new this is disgusting but this time, after i ve been slightly hinting people here and there for a year about the 'abnormal request of money' and remind them that 'the faithful slave wasn't like that until some time ago', this time i saw their faces.
they did get bothered with that talk.

Hey, the kingdom hall perpetual loan scam IS a defacto tithe, albeit at a congregation level and not individual. . They will eventually get there on an individual level as well. They wont call it a tithe but thats what it will be.

who has been out the longest?
by stan livedeath inwho has been out of the cult the longest ?.
i'll start--i resigned in 1971, but attended occasionally as a non-interested husband to keep the wife sweet, untill my last circuit assembly in autumn 1980. no connection with the cult since then.
so--its either 47 or 38 years, depending on how you see it.. which begs the question--why am i on this site now ?.

An article from 1918 predicting that annnnny day now, soon(!), veeeeeerrrrrryyyyy sooooon, the org will collapse. I wait with baited breath.

Td, i certainly dont mean to imply that witnesses were singled out or in anyway persecuted by satans world ;) but it was nonsense. As terry points out, he cant identify specifically why prosecution was dropped... i can. Its easy. They knew they wouldnt win minus wartime feelings. The charges were a huge reach.
