Unsung Movie Villains
by LoveUniHateExams inwe all know the big movie villains get a lot of credit and appear in multiple movies - the shark in jaws, darth vader, and before them dracula, wolfman, frankenstein's monster, etc.. but there must be plenty of villains that get forgotten.. i thought clarence boddicker (played by kurtwood smith) was fantastic in robocop (1987) - a real psychopath.. another character who springs to mind is vilos cohaagen (ronny cox) in total recall (1990), i thought he was very good too.. obviously these and other movie villains do get some critical acclaim but they don't get their own franchise and they rarely get universal praise.. maybe 'unsung movie villains' is the wrong phrase but hopefully you get what i'm trying to say!

Agent smith is all time great, but uni asked for “forgotten” or unsung villians.. hugo weaving is by no means forgotten. To my point, neo was only great because smith was so evil.
In terms of forgotten maybe i could say alan rickman in “quigley down under” as marston. Fantastic villian in a movie that dosent always get a lot of credit... its just hard to find forgotten villians. Villians make movies therefore we dont forget them

I always love a good movie thread, uni, but theres a problem with this one, at least from my perspective.
Most good tales involve a hero or heroes overcoming a dastardly villain. We cheer for the heroes because they fight the villainy we hate and its only because they struggle to overcome the evil that they are heroes.
In short, great heros dont exist without great villains and great movies dont exist without great heroes. Any movie we think is great is likely to be great because, in no small part, of the villain. Ive been largely unable to think of an unsung villian.

There is an underlying story that, unfortunately, serena’s jackassery has ruined...
serena threw her little hissy fit because shes shes spoiled and feels entittled to win all the time, largely because she always has. Shes been phenominal and dominating but the rare occassions shes lost this has typically been her response, to act like a horses rear end and yell and scream etc etc, but she missed a HUGE opportunity to really represent women this time..
the main reason she lost is because shes terribly out of shape, at least compared to her normal physique . Just a quick glance at her tells the story. Shes downright pudgy, borderline obese.
She just had a baby a year ago. She has every reason in the world to be a bit out of shape. She still made the finals. Let that sink in... shes 35 (ish), has her first child and within a year is competing at the highest level of her sport.
Imagine her saying ‘hey im a new mother, i worked hard to get back and still almost won, you can do it too’... imagine the inspiration. Imagine the strong woman narative. Hell she coulda thrown in a ‘im coming for you next time little girl’ and nobody would have blinked twice. Its a damn shame for womens rights that she went the route she did.

Since we are talking has been tennis players weighing in here is another one:
I like Martina Navratilova’s take.. shes much more balanced than billy king. Serenas behavior is indefensible.

In 2009 (one of the events i referenced before) Serena threatened to shove a "F**** ball" down the "F***** throat" of a small female line judge during the US Open.
She is more than happy to bully people when it suits her but now wants to cry foul over justifed penalties?
Please.

Except having played tennis 40 years ago is not a prerequisite for understanding serna clearly broke rules, was appropriately sanctioned, was definitely loosing and ended up behaving like an ass. Also, having played tennis 40 years ago isnt necessary to understand serena is playing the ‘poor little woman’ card. Nobody looks down on her. She has carried woman's tennis for 15 years, damn near single handled. This stunt was below her.
as an aside ole billy gene can hardly be said to not have a dog in this fight. She has been crying about women being treated unfairly for entire career. This was move right out of her worn out play book, of course she backed serena.

Not viewed as a JW if not reported for 6 months?
by kramer inhi, i seem to remember that the society have said that you are not viewed as a witness if you have not reported for 6 months.. does this ring any bells?
someone i know has been called for a judicial, even though she has said she doesn’t believe and is not not attending meetings and hasn’t for 6 months.what she did was 12 months ago when she was a witness.. she is not sure whether she should turn up or not, as turning up shows she thinks she answers to elders still.
but also doesn’t want to be automatically disfellowshipped which may happen if she doesn’t turn up.. if there is an article to quote saying someone inactive isn’t seen as a witness, this would be helpful.. any thoughts?.

Unfortunately she is still considered a witness. What your referring to with the six month no time reported time frame means she is considered “inactive”. That dosent have a lot of bearing on the committee. If they have invited her (and it sounds like they have) they will indeed df her in absentia if she dosent show up for the kangaroo court. Im sorry.
