Bro Lett at Int. Conv in Israel last year.......
by WingCommander inhaving been recently introduced to governing body member lett's "unique" speaking style, i found another video on youtube (and also on jw.org) of bro lett visiting the international convention in israel.
apparently his buffonery is not only reserved for video intro's to dramas, but also in real life as well.. i used to think those ol' time pentacostal and baptist ministers in tents would overdue it......i was wrong.
this guy has them all beat.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltvx_e4xe4e.

I went to an international convention in Hawaii when i was still a true believer and he came off as a buffoon to me even then. his antics were very off putting and i just couldnt take sitting and listening to him -

Shorter meetings for field service
by hoser inmarch kingdom ministry insert is about how the field service meetings will be shortened from 10 to 15 minutes down to 5 to 7 minutes.
they want the publishers to report more hours.
in my experience the problem isn't the length of the meeting for service but pioneers and publishers dogging it after the service arrangement.

"If field service was made optional for JW's, monthly reports are abolished, & the pioneer titles discontinued, I wonder how many would turn up... "

"Why I don't like people coming to my door, selling religion"
by Captain Schmideo2 inthis is from a blog, "news from me" that i read fairly regularly.
mark evanier is, among other things, a comic book writer (co-writer for "groo-the wanderer), a television writer, a great raconteur, and was a close person friend of jack kirby, one of the world's greatest comic book artists.he got an email from a jw trying to explain why they come to his door.evanier's answer is well thought out, and should explain to even the densest j-dub why people really don't like being bothered.
maybe his correspondent will take it to heart, but probably not.

i went back and rewatched to get another take on the semantic. In the context used, refering to the leadership of the watchtower bible and tract society as "watchtower" was came off as incorrect and very clumsy. It perked my jw ears the first time and did so again. I take that viewpoint because nonwitnesses wont have any trouble believing the report as it is, only current jw's will question the validity.
and respectfully, no. The floodgates have not opened by any rational measurment or logical standard. There are over a million pubs in the usa. 20 cases is .002 percent of total publishers. I would agree that even one case is too many but its also sensationalized to call 20 a floodgate. if "watchtower" thought there were only 20 potential cases lurking they would laugh themselves to sleep at night.

@toesup- nailed for me. you cannot have it both ways:
Overall, i was glad candice came off so well spoken and so....."normal". no wild eyed apostate ramblings, just a woman who had been taken advantage of as a child taking a stand now. well done.
i wish there had been some oportunity for the ex jw community to contribute a touch to the reporting side. some of the term they used, like refering to the branch as "watchtower" out of context, will make current jw's quesrion the validity and depth of reporting. it also would have been nice to get them to quote more of the letter to the BO the quote they used was a bit out of context in their use although it was accurate overall. they also refered to twenty cases as "the floodgates opening" which seems a bit sensationalized. i hate to see the point lost by uneeded use of dramatics when candice herself was so well spoken and handled things so nicely. i credit them on the whole with taking this on and im glad the piece aired

lets be even more precise: that 40,000 per year is an old number (about 15 years old ) and came directly from the branch, no guess on that, and did not include thise who fell inactive or were reproved. the numbers are not trending well, but of course a large number df'd will be be reinstated and made 'active' again -

jw.org cart days numbered?
by jookbeard inreading a report of an elder in a friends cong has been hiding and spying on the pioneers who seem to have a practise of dumping the cart and finding a local coffee shop, i've noticed that they do this in my local high street as well but this week they seemed to be all huddled around the cart, they've clearly been warned, a vast percentage of the time i see they seem to be more interested in fiddling with their mobile phones and gossiping, is just seems these carts are a means for the pioneers to turn in "easy time" i wonder what sort of figures show how much literature is being taken by the public?
i bet its very minimal.
naturally the gb would say they are a phenomenal success , we clearly know they are not.

OTWO nailed it. its a zero investment for the branch as it is, any return is 'free money', but money the point anyway. it's publicity and keeping the members busy. -

A couple questions for atheists on Suffering
by little_Socrates inwho told you that the world should be free from suffering?.
do you find any value in suffering?.
do you think it is possible to experience all the beauty and goodness and pleasure the world offers without also experiencing the bad?

Im not sure what atheists you have been talking too but most i know find life exciting and vibrant, full of oportunity and wonder.
What i wonder is why god cant be bothered to help people who die in tsunamis but he answers prayers about....whatever petty random crap people pray about. Its not about avoiding suffering its about realizing that sky daddy cant be bothered to help when it really matters.
