Labeling one self "Atheist" is Unscientific
by LAWHFol ini have not meet all atheists, and it would be foolish for me to assume that all atheists, share the same prototypical view points.
i am inclined to feel that this classifies the views of a large percentage of atheists.
"atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.

Oh Thor, perry are you going to start with the 'evolved from rocks' crap again?
Why do i click on these theeads?!?!?!? Dear Odin, take me now! 😬🔫
Athiesium is no more a belief system than "not collecting stamps" is a hobby. Its simply not believing in something, like your vengeful goat herder deity who killed his only son to pay himself back for something that wasnt owed. Im believe in deities that show themselves, like Thor and the All father Odin. Hell i am more than 50% sure freeminds god is real. What isnt real is the goat herder god or his magical son who raises the dead, walks on water and turns water into wine but cant figure out how to communicate with us, his supposed beloved creation, in a profcient manner or in any manner at all for that matter....
And i swear perry, i will kiss the goat herder gods ass with you all day long if you please stop with the dumb ass 'evolved from rocks' nonsense. Please. Dear. God. Stop it.

Cecil the Lion deserved what he got...That's right. I said it.
by cappytan inlions are notorious murderers of beautiful zebras, antelope and other graceful exotic animals.
cecil probably contributed to the deaths of hundreds if not thousands of animals.
what happened to him was justice.. you reap what you sow.

Kaik, im not trying to pick an fight but your last comment was had at least two false equivalencies that were a bit grating, even though we are on the same side of this issue.
1) poaching was indeed a crime in the dark ages but absolutely NOT for the same reasons. They didnt give a damn about game managment in midevil England,( or about animal cruelty) nor did they need to... Poaching was merely a crime of theft against the baron or land owner or king . It did not resemble in any way the current crime of poaching, a crime related to game managment or in the case of lions, species management.
2) your statment that lured him off the the preserve and into "nature"..... Sigh..... Nevermind. I cant fix the world.
As noted, we are on the same side of this issue but being able to reason and related your argument logically and with a modicum of accuracy is nessary if you are going to reach people and change minds. Making emotional and error filled arguments will only convince those that agree with you and cause those that disagree to dig in deeper

Cappy, the humor wasnt lost on me :) it was ironic and reflected a real set of arguments that mirrors debate on other topics...
What i find head shakingly bizzare is how much outcry there is over this one lion, simply because he was named. Its typical internet mob mentality and after a week nobody whos crying over poor cecil will give one damn. Whats also telling is that two weeks ago nobody whos crying over cecil cared one bit about all the lions the maasai kill every year and will continue to kill every year. Its people jumping on the band wagon, 'oh i bleed for cause xyz' because everyone else is..... Its staking out the easy moral high ground.
im not suggesting that some of the well reasoned comments on this thread are not sincere and i dont object to taking a notrious incident and using it to draw attention to a real problem. But the level of phony outrage that was never expressed before and will vanish in a few days by some (especially on social media) simply so they can be "on the right side" of an issue is sickining. Talk to me next week or next month when the maasai or some other african tribe slaughter lions as a right of passage and then i will be be able to take the concern seen on various social media as genuine. Donante to a legitimate conservation fund for big cats. Do something afirmative to support big cat conservation. Donate to educate the chineese so they will stop harvesting lions for 'traditional' medicines. But please spare me the cause dejour outrage that only highlights how shallow the world has become and how easily people are manipulated into caring about something they have never before thought about.
*note: i do not support the clown dentist who killed this lion and hope justice is served on him. I dont support any hunting for 'sport'. I cheer when the orcas kill "trainers" at sea world.

It's a great time to be alive: 'Star Trek Impulse Drive' works and could get us to the moon in 4 hours. Mars in 70 days.
by cappytan inyes, star trek impulse drive was click bait.
but this british designed engine has been compared to that.. interplanetary travel could be a step closer after scientists confirmed that an electromagnetic propulsion drive, which is fast enough to get to the moon in four hours, actually works.. .
the em drive was developed by the british inventor roger shawyer nearly 15 years ago but was ridiculed at the time as being scientifically impossible.. .

Is the two-witness rule really unreasonable?
by stillin ini'm picturing a situation in which a savvy 12 year old doesn't like the house rules that mom's new husband has put into place.
or something along that line.
i can certainly agree that protection of children is paramount, but who protects the real victim in those cases?
-
_Morpheus
Of course its unreasonable. Who abuses a child with two witnesses present???? Who commits any crime in full view of witnesses?
99% of judicial cases avoid the stupidity of the two witness rule because people confess. Its a cult, they are indoctrinated and feel guilty and come forward. Two witness rule not needed. in cases of child abuse whos going to admit that?? Pedos don't confess.
