Sorry for the young folks that don't get 12 inches anymore

just listened to patrice rushen "forget me knots"and it made me think - do you remember the excitement of going to the record shop and getting the 12 inch of your favourite tune?.

i remember halkwind 12 inch silver machine that went on forever!!

Lol your age is showing..... Kids today have their rituals just like kids of every generation. They wait up late until the new album hits for download. They still listen to the songs 1000 times to get the lyrics down. They share headphones (one side each) and play music for each other.... Young crush/love hasn't changed, only the means its shared :)

by my time cd's were replacing cassetts rapidly but i do remember my first gf loaning me a tape so i could copy it. It was a specal feeling and every generation will have those type of moments and strong attachments to technology related moments

Any funny stories of when a"brother" giving a talk, said something "funny" or "questionable", and didn't even realize it?

there were always all types of speakers in the org.

myself, growing up a "witness", must have heard all types of talks, and given by all manner of speakers, especially on sundays, when almost every week we would get a "visiting" brother giving the public talk.. sometimes, you would have a "great" speaker, all fluent and animated.

other times we would get a comical speaker, one who would maybe purposelly get a few laughs outta the audience.

Some of these are pretty damn funny to me on a saturday morning 😂

I'll add one:

at a district convention a guy (im refusing to use the term brother anymore, along with the desert gods name) is giving a talk attempting to praise all the women in organization and highlight that they have abilities and skills that can benefit the congregation because, you know, dubs have to actually be told this..... He builds to a creshendo in his best district convention 'im making a special point by being extra loud voice' and yells:

"BROTHERS! SISTERS ARE A RESOURCE! TAP THAT RESOURCE!!!! TAP IT!"

there was huge snicker from most of the 6,000 people in the audience (along with a few disapproving groans )

for those outside the greater metropolitan washington DC area who dont understand the reference, in this area "tapping" a woman is a very common slang reference to having sex with a woman...

A friend txt me almost immediately and said "first good thing I heard all day" 😂😂

Bethel Layoffs In Australia Confirmed

yes, last week the number of bethel layoffs was confirmed from 90 to 125. .

and those going in thinking they may be there for some time have been told.

that they may be there for two months rather than 3 years depending on .

Its hard to say what sort of ripple effect this could have in the congregation they return to but i can certainly see this having a negative effect in bethel itself as friends watch each other being "reassigned to the field" and left wondering how precarious their own situation is...

I think the revelation book set 1935 as the start of the ingathering of the great crowd. That quote from OTWO looks almost word for word like the rev book information. Your logic about how many chrostains lived before that date, and thus how few christains had ever lived prior to 1914, is very solid and ive read it before, maybe in CoC or perhaps on jw.facts Its a glaring hole in wt theology, which of course is akin to saying the titanic sprung a leak.
