thought i'd start a separate discussion on the subject.. those who know me know i'm struggling with faith; i want to believe, some days i do but it becomes difficult.. many believers say there is verifiable proof of jesus' existence outside of the bible.. please post this proof..

The question isnt really did a guy named jesus from the city of nazathreth ever live and die in the first century CE, although as we have already seen there is zero evidence of it, The import of the question is was this supposed character divine, the son of god, a prophet or something more than one of billions of humans who have lived and died on this world.

not only is there zero reason to believe he lived there is zero reason to think that even if he did he was anything more than a guy. The same evidance that mohamed was just a guy. Nothing special or divine about any of them. No evidance to suggest that anything they said was more special or unique than anything written on this forum.

if it tickles you (the plural to whom it may concern sense of the word) to believe in fairy tales then have fun! In the end this thread will result in exactly zero evidance that jesus of nazareth ever lived and zero evidance he was a prophet or anything more than a guy.

@unsure- and THAT is precisely why i choose to worship Thor. There is 1000x more evidence of Thor's existence than jesus. I see lightning. I hear thunder. Thus i choose to worship Thor as opposed to some carpenter who some claimed was coming back 2,000 years ago.

so you have no facts to present and admit there is no evidence outside the bible but you fordge ahead and accept as fact the jesus was a genuine historical figure.

"For such a shift in consciousness to have occurred so suddenly within one generation would suggest something real took place."

Really? Why is that? Culture shifts all the time.

"You can debate whether or not this thing has any real meaning or significance to you or humanity but I think it's pretty evident that something real actually did happen"

And now the crux of your argument.. "Pretty evident"? Ahh yes that word proof has now been disregarded totally. "Pretty evident" is classic weasel words in action. Pretty evident means no actual evidence at all but you want it to be true so you assume it to be so... thats not evidence of anything.

Pull up a chair and get comfortable. Its going to be a while. You may want a dictionary handy as the definition of the word "proof" will streetched very thin.

Ex or Current Elder Question

so i have been inactive for about a year and a half.

been baptised for about 35 years.how long would it take before they give up on what i do with my life, for example, i celebrate all holidays now, and have even posted on social media pics of me and my family celebrating.

do they even care anymore?

As others have said, its really individual bodies of elders. The truth is its a second or third job for most of them and , for the most part, they really dont want to be bothered with extra work chasing you down. If you keep your head down and dont dare them to chase you..... they prob wont bother. Some bodies though can be power hungry and petty and vindictive and chase you down for jay walking. You really just need to evaluate the local guys.

before i begin i just wanna say, im not proud of what i did, it was wrong but it happened now im just trying to do the right thing.. ok so im a "worldly" person and i meet a jw women at my job.

i had no idea she was married due to the fact that she hid her wedding ring.

i even ask if she was in a relationship and she denied it.

@pale- this is the internet. Anyone can be anyone they want and i certainly considered your proposition, but hell it only takes a few minutes to give a reasonable answer and if someone gets off on child custody issues then trolling us is the least of their issues. I figured to treat it seriously since its a legitimate issue for some, custody and jw'isum.

Now that i have a little more perspective on what you are seeking, I would tell you or any other man who asked: dont EVER accept a woman trying to keep you from your children. Take her to court (as you said you have already begun the process of). You will pay child support, as is good and proper for a father, but you damn well should require and enforce visitation, 100% of the time you are granted by the court.

You should absolutely damn well talk to the children as they grow about your views on life, including their mothers reigious beliefs and your own beliefs (or reasons for the lack thereof).

You should also DEMAND the court allow you full participation in decisions on child care. She will allow them to die if a blood tranfusion is required so you MUST be sure you are included LEGALLY. Do not EVER take her assurances that she will consult you. Make it LEGAL.

Celebrate holidays with them if thats your custom. Treat them normally as you see normal amd dont ever accept second class status as a parent.

Im not sure what your question is...? You laid out a difficult scenario , for the children , the woman, her husband(?) and yourself.... but what exactly were you asking, especially as it relates to jw'isum? You wisely are taking her to court for visitation and such but what advise or perspective were seeking here?

the treatment plan for seels-davila called for recycling her own blood back into her system.. yet that proved to be inadequate when complications of her delivery required seels-davila to deliver by cesarean section.

I hate to hear that a new mother died, its always a tragedy and especially when it was preventable.

That said, the husband/family has absolutely no right to sue. If the doctors provided otherwise competent care and she refused a transfusion.... then she made a knowing decision and im sure in the moment her husband was gung ho about it too.... now that shes gone and he has to raise a child on his own with little job prospects after being a missionary i suspect a payout from a hospital sounds better.

Again, my deepest sympathy to the motherless child and family who im sure mourns their wife and daughter.... but choices have consequences.
