The reason i feel confident saying i would go back tomorrow if they ended shunning is that, as gayle noted, they cannot end shunning. It will never happen. But if they did i would gladly go back :)

What can the leadership at Watchtower do to turn things around?
by UnshackleTheChains inlet's play devils advocate here.. put yourself in the governing body's shoes.
they are well aware of all the issues they are facing.
they know their numbers (they 'do the math' as they say in the us).

What pbrow said. I dont feel like typing it all out but basically “it becomes every other religion” covers it. I won't believe the bullshit but i wont have too. -

Chapter 37 New Boy 50 years a Watchtower slave
by new boy inchapter 37. passing it down line.
how did i rationalized everything i had experienced growing up and what i saw at bethel?
no one wants to believe their whole life is a lie.

There is prob a lot of truth in that, wing. I ate lunch at the bossert (this is when laundry was in furman st). Seating was “open” and we always had a “laundry” table (all sat together). We told the waiters in advance , every day, we were going to wear them out... i could see it being different in other dining rooms

New boy, once again i share and see so much of myself in your experiances... thankfully i was so disillusioned by my time in brooklyn i discouraged my son fmbirth against going to bethel. I would overhear him from time to time telling other kids why he would never go.. small satisfaction on my part ;)
@diog- food is plentiful and its all you can eat. I was hungry at times because after the evening meal (5pm) you have to save food for a snack and i didnt often do that... but it wasnt bethels idea to starve you per say, just logistics of prep and cleaning. Cant serve food 24/7

Faced with the reality of mortality
by stuckinarut2 inhow have you all coped with facing the reality of our mortality?.
most of us were raised to firmly believe we would never get old or die... so here we are now having to face the reality that are getting older... we are going to die.. sometimes it really pisses me off that we were never helped to comprehend this most basic of facts.
we were given a utopian dream as a "fact", and hence never taught how to face our inevitable futures.... thoughts?.

Yes. I went through a really bad phase when i realized i would die and that there was no panda petting paradise.
It also felt like, knowing there was no resurrection, that i had lost every friend and loved one all over again.
It got better. I learned how to deal with it and now appreciate life more than ever

can you still record the talks at assemblies?
by greenhornet inyears ago my parents would record these talks and play them back all the time.
when they both died, we cleaned out the house and found 50 plus cassette tapes of recorded talks and they were labeled the year and the speaker at the time.
that was in the year 2000. we just gave them to there jw friends because i did not want to keep them for recording of music.

Interesting fact, pale:
bro mac is the one who caused the recording of talks to be shut down. He got world wide jw fame as a speaker and here on the east coast of the usa he had GROUPIES, honest to god fucking groupies, who would follow him around. He gave a talk at our hall.. attendance wemt from a norm of 110 ish to an astounding 250+!!!! We had to turn people away, including regular congregation members. It was awful.
Long and short, eventually bethel heavies got tired of his following and mac himself crossed the line: he started autographing CD’s. They called it “worship of men” and shut him down and started comming down hard on the recording of talks. He eventually was allowed to start giving talks again of course....

The desert god has nothing to do with it. The internet had killed them as has their everchanging date oriented theology.

I think that basic ratio applies accross the board. Fewer jw’s overall and packing congregations
