  See bob, now your changing the terms of the discussion and somehow taking a friendly exchange of ideas and making it aggressive. You and i were simply talking about the changes in business model and all of a sudden it turns into ‘it dosent matter when they changed they changed and thats it’.. relax bob. Its a discussion forum. Without talk its just a blank web page, right?

  They changed for a reason. Lots of them really... they were forced to go from paying for literature to donations. Eventually the printing business world wide had the bottom fall out. Paper and ink is ever more costly and digital media is far cheaper and more convient. There are reasons they changed and those reasons matter.

  Well, it depends on what you define as the “previous” business model. To my way of looking at it, from the organizations inception until the start of the donation arrangment, it was selling books ands mags. After the donation arrangement started it limped along with less success but technology slowly morphed the world into a digital place. The org kicked and screamed until very very recently but has embraced it to the point now that there are no new releases at conventions. Everything is digital.. that marks, again from my perspective, the start of a different business model.

  edited to add: bear in mind bob, i didnt say the previous model made no sense, i said it “no longer made sense.”. It worked very well until the late 80’s early 90’s. It slowly deteriorated after the whole swaggert thing forced the change to donations.

  And sparrow, that is why i asked bon if he was ever at bethel. I just wanted to get his frame of reference, because in the end, i agreed with his position. No secret to long time forum members that i am not one of the gloom and doom chorus. The wt is fine. They have money and are in no jeporady whatsoever. They are purposely changing what they do and how they do it knowing that the former business model no longer makes sense.

  Coco, indeed that was what he said, that brothers are reporting a disturbing trend etce etc... but thats nonsense. I saw co’s use that phrase all the time when speaking to the congregation and it was virtually never true. The BOE never had said a word in referance to what the co would then go to address but it sounded better for him, as an outsider, to cite the local authorties as the source of the report instead if merely his observation from two seconds of looking around. Also, from personal experience, i can tell you bethel honchos dont spend a lick of time with local jw’s. They are greeted and handled by local honchos (co’s now, used to be do’s). Theres no interaction with even local elders to get those sorts of reports. This is all tight pants tony personal vendetta.

  the way you phrased that really hits a chord for me. Whether you meant this way or not it highlights just how the cult and religion in general works all to often. Theres no biblical basis for his rediculious remarks about pants... its entirely HIS view and therefore becomes his deserts gods view. That is to say, he assumes his god agrees with him because thats how he (tight pants tony) feels. Its litterally “his jehovahs” view, not necessarily the god of the bibles view (not that he is relevant either). Its just the phrasing that hits home for me, “his jehovah”.   And the closing remark of the clip, that he would never disrespect the desert god by wearing tight pants... really? Drama much? Insane. He is genuinly obsessed with pants. Thats what happens when people wield absolute power. Their personal vendettas are magnified and made paramount.

  Indeed. Its a shame the chinese have hunted them so heavily, although recent conservation efforts, while modest, are a step in the right direction
